Does anyone know if I can take a salad to the airport and through security?

I hate airport food and I would like to take a packed lunch with my to the airport and through security. I have a craving for a dressed salad. Does anyone know if I can take a salad dressed in mayonnaise through security or would the mayonnaise be considered a liquid? Will I play it safe and only bring sandwiches?

I don't want to be fussy with foods. I love a lot foods but I have to write off a lot of foods from my diet.

A portion of chips will make me sick. I can eat them but I will struggle the next day.

Could you take a sachet of dressing and put in ziplock bag with your other liquids?

mommatoone · 05/09/2024 22:41

'🖕 there's the salad '
Sorry, I couldn't resist 🤣. Iykyk.

I have a plan in place. It will be reusable and then when I get to the hotel out forgein I will wash and dry them and use the container for filling up at the breakfast buffet for my lunch possibly.

Wait a minute, let's not skip over this little brass neck teaser. What are you going to put in there?

I will bring a lunch box to the airport and I will use it on holidays and fill up from the breakfast buffet. Whatever is on offer from the buffet.

I can state with 100% certainty that I have never had a craving for a salad.

"I start my holiday with expensive bought £7 meal deals every time lol"

They're ripping you off! £4.99 at Boots Manchester airport last month and £5.50 WHSmith. Bloody love a meal deal

Bloody £8 at WHS Liverpool Airport!

Rummly · 05/09/2024 22:53

Me too.

Whenever I think I’ve seen peak Mumsnet someone can come along and top it.

So odd to have a craving for something at some point in the future. A craving means you're craving it now, doesn't it? It's the sort of thing that sends a person out to buy things late at night because it must be scoffed. Otherwise it's more of a notion.

ChickenandaCanofCoke · 05/09/2024 22:55

"Bloody £8 at WHS Liverpool Airport!"

8 quid? 8 fucking quid?! They're having a laugh

louderthan · 05/09/2024 22:55

I've watched this thread just for the breakfast buffet barney that will surely follow...

Rummly · 05/09/2024 22:57

What was the breakfast buffet barney? In a nutshell.

I do have a craving for it now and I have a Tesco order booked and I will get it tomorrow I hope. But I really like this and I will likely have to for a few days.

What the hell are you going to eat whilst you’re away OP?
Such a palaver

Ginnnny · 05/09/2024 23:04

Take your salad in a tub and mayo in a 100ml bottle to be safe.

NewMe2024 · 05/09/2024 23:11

I’ve just crawled into bed after a long day and unable to sleep, for various reasons feeling a bit despairing. This thread was just what I needed. Thanks for the laughs everyone!

ChickenandaCanofCoke · 05/09/2024 23:11

Stuff from the breakfast buffet that she secretes in her little breakfast thief Tupperware

NewMe2024 · 05/09/2024 23:13

I don’t think I can sleep though til both the buffet theft and concept of anticipatory cravings have been tackled.

Blueflam · 05/09/2024 23:14

I can order from children's menus a lot of the time because children's menus are often plain.

I will figure it out as I go.

Ewwww it'll get nuked big time going through the security X-ray machine....not sure I'd want to eat it immediately after that!

Bloody £8 at WHS Liverpool Airport!

€4.25 for a standard (meal deal sized) bottle of irn Bru in Ibiza airport!! Worlds gone mad!

sunseaandsoundingoff · 05/09/2024 23:23

We flew from one of the airports with the new scanners and you can take any liquids through. But they tested my 100ml mouthwash and I had to wait for ages so it seemed entirely pointless, since I wouldn't have waited at all under the old rules.
