Trying to read an article behind a paywall . In the photo she looks absolutely gaunt. Can anyone tell me the gist of the article? It’s Clive and Amanda talking about how fame ruined their marriage.

If you’re using an iPhone select reader to access it for free.

Thanks so much! I never know about the reader option. I feel very sorry for Amanda, she's paid a heavy price for their success.

Looks like Ozempic face. If you squint it could be a picture of Sharon Osbourne.

However biggest fucking red flag from the article is that they met when she was 21 and Owen was 40?!! That doesn't sound like a fairytale tradwife fantasy. Sounds like textbook grooming where a young girl is lured into a relationship and impregnated very quickly so she has no chance of escape.

So I was 28 when I met DH who was 40. 30 years later and I can tell you it's not grim! Cheek of it!

21 and 40, and 28 and 40, are worlds apart though?

🙄🙄 one of these days my eyes are going to roll out of my head

Oh she looks so ill - what a price for fame !

28 is worlds apart from 21 in terms of maturity, life experience and frontal lobe development. Most people wouldn't bat an eye at a 10yr difference there. A 40 year old dating a 28 year old is clearly an adult seeking the company of another adult. But a 40 year old wanting marry to a 21 year old is definitely not normal, essentially a thinly veiled physical attraction to teens.

GorgeousTulips · 05/09/2024 16:34

Charles was late thirties when he married Diana. Would you say the same about that?

That's entirely different though - it's having been a legal adult for 10 years versus 3.

I'm genuinely not sure why you thought they were comparable.

Meh, 28 is a proper adult, I wouldn’t even blink at that age gap. 21 seems so much younger.

GorgeousTulips · 05/09/2024 17:00

They seem to have been fine until their family started being televised.

I imagine that would put a strain on any relationship, yes.

Charles was 33 I think and Diana was dreadfully young at 20. Lots of people thought the age gap was not OK. (I was 8 and remember my mum tutting about it).

BMW6 · 05/09/2024 17:13

IIRC she never sat down to eat with her family (i recall her or Clive saying this on one of the programmes) so perhaps there's always been an eating disorder.

Left to his own devices he would have chosen Camila. He didn't actively chase after a 20 year old and was probably equally mortified by the lack of things they had in common.

She looked very healthy before her marriage broke down.

When their marriage broke down didn’t Clive do lots of media work slagging Amanda off, mentioning affairs and how she had had her head turned by fame and the men she worked with on her media ventures?

meringue33 · 05/09/2024 21:44

Interesting article, read it in full.
He admits he was very abusive, jealous and didn’t want her to leave the farm.
I’m glad she has escaped, or kind of!

No, he didn't say anything bad about her, and admitted he had been hard to live with.
Amanda looks horrendous, there must be more to it than trolling online, people have been talking about her for years. I recall a farming forum where the (male) farmers who lived locally called her a tease for the TV and that she was always seeking male attention.

We noticed that at the time. Odd.

GorgeousTulips · 05/09/2024 23:12

I wonder about why she felt the need to have so many children who they clearly couldn’t afford, particularly when Clive already has two children with his first wife. Amanda then felt driven to find a way to make enough money to support them and buy their own farm. That impacted the marriage. She is menopausal now and perhaps the end of her fertile years and waning attractiveness have all played a part. Clearly they are very loving parents and care for each other deeply. I hope they can find some peace now .

It appears she has been vilified in the press and that has caused weight loss. It literally days so in the article, so no idea why people are suggesting slimming drugs Hmm

She still looks stunning, and appears to have a good relationship with Clive now. I wish them the best - it would have been a hard transition from farming remotely, to all the attention and press.

I would and actually that’s why their marriage wasn’t successful.

I always thought 9 kids ( the washing, the cooking, etc etc) plus farm work, plus cameras following them everywhere, house full of film crew, having to reshoot things must all have been exhausting. Add in writing the books, appearances, book signings and I’m not surprised it was all too much. Hope they both find peace and their kids are ok. ( and hope Clive's cut the drinking, that’s never going to end well)

She was trying to be superwoman and it eventually got too much. She’s only human. I think if Clive had been supportive things would have turned out differently. He’s obviously learned and changed, but sadly their relationship as husband and wife is over. They seem to be in a much better place now though.
