Cheesy pasta

Possibly the most pointless post 😂
so I always see ‘cheesy pasta’ thrown out as an easy midweek dinner for kids but I don’t know what it is.
Are we talking full on macaroni cheese or literally just pasta with some grated cheese on top?
Give me your how to’s on cheesy pasta!

Funnily enough my two (adult sons) had this tonight (because i couldn't be bothered cooking properly and wanted wine) pile of grated cheddar on top of cooked pasta in the microwave for one minute to melt ànd chopped cooked bacon sprinkled on top😋

mynameiscalypso · 04/09/2024 22:32

@Cobblersorchard I have also introduced my 5 year old to cheesy chips. He basically eats like he's got a student hangover.

Gingerkittykat · 04/09/2024 22:33

Is it possible people are talking about Kraft Cheesy Pasta in a box?

I always have a box of Marshall's macaroni and cheese in the cupboard for emergencies. You boil the pasta and add the powdered cheese mix with some butter and milk and extra grated cheese.

Pasta with broccoli or frozen peas. Stir soft cheese through.

Add tuna for tuna pasta.

Surely pasta with pesto = pasta pesto, not cheesy pasta.
Likewise pasta and tomato sauce = tomato pasta.
The addition of cheese to any pasta dish surely doesn't automatically turn it into "cheesy pasta" ???

Absolutely agree. I put parmesan on/in most of my pasta dishes, including bolognese and carbonara. Are PP suggesting they are all now to be considered cheesy pasta? Madness!

Cheesy pasta is pasta with cheese sauce. Surely?!

Cheesy pasta is definitely different to macaroni cheese and that's a hill I'm willing to die on.

Absolutely.

Cheesy Pasta can be any cheese and any pasta prepared and which way you like for a quick dinner.

Macaroni cheese however is the food of Gods and takes time, dedication and love to prepare.

Girasoli · 04/09/2024 22:41

Pasta, butter, grated cheddar.

Macaroni cheese is much fancier with panchetta cubes, peas and crispy breadcrumbs.

Not what you've asked for but thought of this as soon as I saw the thread title. I know there are a fair few Scot's on here... I give you Gary Tank Commander: Cheesy Pasta...

Melt tablespoon of butter, add a tablespoon of flour. Cook for one minute. Add milk and grated cheese and stir until thick and creamy. Delicious! That's my idea of cheese sauce for pasta.

See, on our house that's macaroni cheese. Cheesy pasta is literally pasta with grated cheese on top 😁.

Girasoli · 04/09/2024 22:43

Pancetta! I always confuse the English ch and the Italian ch.

Shineybrightthings · 04/09/2024 22:49

Lots of simple but very tasty sounding recipes here and I’m going to try some of them. However, there are times when only this one hits the spot for me .

I just buy a jar of domir cheese sauce from Aldi. Heat it up and stir some Aldi red lentil and beetroot pasta into it. Occasionally I'll also add in mushrooms and ham and maybe crush plain crisps and sprinkle over the top with some grated cheese.

HaddyAbrams · 04/09/2024 22:53

In my house
Cheesy pasta = pasta and grated cheese. Maybe a knob of butter melted in

Pasta and cheese sauce = obvious

Macaroni cheese = pasta and cheese sauce covered in more cheese and baked.

NailsHairNipsHeels · 04/09/2024 23:00

I'm mind blown....for me cheesy pasta is the atomic orange cheesy pasta from the box. This one ⬇️
Delicious with about 20 E numbers but cures a hangover in about 2mouthfuls and delicious on toast 🤤

We have 2 variations of this favourite.

DD (5) Pasta with enough grated cheese to sink a ship. The pasta must be warm or the cheese will melt. If the cheese melts I must add more unmelted cheese.

DD (2) Pasta with vegan herb soft cheese melted in. There must be no vegan grated cheese because it is rank.

StressedQueen · 04/09/2024 23:03

Cheesy pasta for us is no tomato sauce!!! Good thread cause I had no idea people did it like that. It's just melted cheese mixed in with the pasta. Sometimes for my 9 and 5 year old daughters, it is literally just grated cheese on top slightly warmed. And they enjoy it with ketchup somehow!

FrangipaniBlue · 04/09/2024 23:07

Boursin cheese in a pan with a little bit of milk - heat until thick and creamy.

Stir though cooked pasta.

Haha yes I am in this camp too but it seems like most are not!!

Zonder · 04/09/2024 23:27

Our cheesy pasta is boiled pasta drained, a mix of eggs and grated cheese mixed together then poured into the pasta pan and cooked for a couple of minutes so eggs aren't raw and cheese melts. Lush!

MonsteraMama · 04/09/2024 23:27

For me it can vary based on my Give a Fuck level from pasta with a few squares of neon American cheese stirred into it, to a proper three cheese sauce made from scratch, crispy guanciale and pancetta stirred through, homemade pasta, baked in the oven for the perfect crispy top. The only necessary ingredients are cheese and pasta, the fanciness level is up to you.

However pasta with a tomato sauce is tomato pasta no matter how much cheese you put on it.

LovedFedAndNoonesDead · 04/09/2024 23:35

For my niece it was pasta with some butter, grated cheese and balsamic glaze drizzled over the top.

For one of my twins, it’s pasta with soft cheese stirred through it and grated cheese on top; obligatory ketchup on the side.

For the other twin, DH and I, it’s full on macaroni cheese!

Mikunia · 04/09/2024 23:37

In our house we have the very basic pasta in butter with grated cheese, and the fancier pasta mixed with cream and grated cheese over low heat till it melts. This creates a cheese sauce with very little effort.

CatsLikeBoxes · 04/09/2024 22:13

Agreed!! If it's got a sauce that isn't cheese, then it's not cheesy pasta!
