When would you be happy to see Christmas stuff in the shops

Just noticed Christmas chocolates in the supermarket today. Every year I hear people say it's in the shops too early, but I also get that some
People want to start buying ahead of time

For me 1st November would be ok

December. And when I rule the world this will be the law.

I totally get people want to spread the cost but I think seeing the stuff from August probably makes people spend more not less unless you are ruthless with a list.

Honestly? End of November, start of December. The constant exposure to Christmas 'stuff' from now onwards really spoils it for me.

This.

I know I don't have to buy it now, but it still pisses me off that Christmas is all over the place for a third of the year.

I like Christmas, I'm not a Scrooge, but I'm made to feel like once because I don't want to engage with it until December. It really pisses me off. 2 weeks of Christmas is plenty!

RedToothBrush · 04/09/2024 20:09

From 1st September.

Mince pies appeared in my local Sainsbury's in August this year. I've been tracking this for a couple of years now and it's the earliest they've appeared in my local branch.

MidwichCuckoo · 04/09/2024 20:10

I saw chocolate Santas in a big Tesco today. It doesnt bother me. Some people might have more willpower than i would if i bought now.

Icanthinkformyselfthanks · 04/09/2024 20:12

I was in my local M&S food hall today and was shocked to see Christmas puddings, mince pies, shortbread tins etc all out on the shelves. I’m a big believer in keeping Christmas special by limiting its duration, this is way too early for me.

brimfulofpacha · 04/09/2024 20:13

I'd prefer early November, but maybe mid/late October for people who want to get organised. I'd rather see Halloween stuff only from early-mid oct, then Xmas stuff after that. However this year I saw Halloween decs in July and Santa shaped chocolate in the supermarket mid August! Way way too early imo. I do like to be super organised for events and I absolutely LOVE Christmas but that is way too much even for me. The way it is now feels like it's all rammed down our throats too soon, so it's not special at all. By December it's draining to see twinkly lights and hear the songs, when it should be an exciting time to look forward to.

December. Ideally the 23rd, but I’d concede the 10th.

ALunchbox · 04/09/2024 20:16

December.

Mid august. Some of us like to spread the cost. I already got my Bailey's and Tia Maria and quality streets.

But you can buy Tia Maria and baileys all year round!

I would like it to be contained to December, the vast majority of stuff can be purchased all year round.

Gloriiaa · 04/09/2024 20:19

1st weekend in December

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 04/09/2024 20:21

Mid November ideally, after bonfire night. I like things to be seasonal! Realistically October onwards would be fine.

The thing that annoys me is that if you don't want to shop early and wait till nearer the time then there is nothing left.

We went on holiday later this year, only mid August but it was impossible to buy any last minute bits as the shops were full of Halloween and Christmas stuff!

I actually love both Halloween and Christmas but feel like it takes away a bit of the magic if stuff is around too soon

CherieBabySpliffUp · 04/09/2024 20:21

The shops can sell Christmas stuff all year round for all I care. If it helps people spread the cost of Christmas by buying little and often in their weekly shop it doesn't affect me.

NoraLuka · 04/09/2024 20:21

November for advent calendars, December for everything else. I don’t like Halloween and Christmas stuff mixed together, it spoils both of them. Christmas doesn’t seem as special if it lasts for months.

RealHousewivesOfTaunton · 04/09/2024 20:23

The day after Halloween, so 1st November. Now that Black Friday is a thing, it feels like the build up starts then.

3peassuit · 04/09/2024 20:26

Early to Mid November so it’s about a 6 week build up to the big day.

HoppityBun · 04/09/2024 20:27

1 December to answer your question but we’re a capitalist society and even charity shops lose out if the don’t have their Christmas cards on sale around now. I try to ignore them until I feel Christmassy

ghostbusters · 04/09/2024 20:33

After Halloween for me too. I don't like seeing Halloween stuff next to Christmas stuff in the shops, only one celebration festival at a time please.

My birthday is in November and I sometimes get Christmas gifts for my birthday. I may BU but I don't want gifts with Santa on if it's not a Christmas gift.

deviantfeline · 04/09/2024 20:34

December 23rd. Back to normal December 26th. Thats plenty.

Yogagrandmum · 04/09/2024 20:36

Last Saturday in November.

MrsMoastyToasty · 04/09/2024 20:37

After Remembrance Sunday.

Oldfatandfrumpy · 04/09/2024 20:38

November! Christmas does not need to last 4 sodding months (in fact longer as Christmas chocolates started appearing at the end of July!) I like Christmas to be a special time of year.

Thanks to supermarkets, media and people that put their trees up months in advance I'm so bored of it all by November, I end up putting a tree up because I should and taking it down the day after Boxing Day. Totally ruins it

GildedRage · 04/09/2024 20:39

After Remembrance Day

BerthaFlapjack · 04/09/2024 20:44

Mid December, and I would ban Halloween or at least the selling and display of hideous tat.

Happy for others to disagree.

YeahComeOnThen · 04/09/2024 20:44

Cards October (international posting dates to consider)

the rest after Halloween

the decorations are in shops far too early now & it takes away from the specialness

CrushingOnRubies · 04/09/2024 20:45

After Remembrance Sunday. Halloween at a push
