I dunno. I think Labour needed (like last time) an absolutely brutal media strategist and their message is a bit rigid. Lots of right wing carping but little substance. A lot of that will disappear when or if people feel better off. it all feels to me like the grind of boring government. The budget is the thing.

BustingBaoBun · 17/09/2024 21:42

@dontcallmelen your posts are always insightful, and for reasons I won't go into your name always resonates with me!

Notonthestairs · 17/09/2024 22:05

IMO MN grammar pedantry is often used as deflection from the substance of a post. I have never found your posts simplistic dontcallmelen.

Waves to fellow dyslexic Itsgettingweird

Agree that Labour would benefit better media strategists. And it's certainly time that the replacement for Simon Case is interviewed & appointed.

But it was always going to be like this - right wing media have shown time again that they rely on voters short memories.

BIossomtoes · 17/09/2024 22:41

Another one who thinks that not only do they need better media strategists but they need a director of comms of the quality of Campbell. He’d never have let the clothing donation debacle happen or allowed the WFA announcement come out separately from the budget. They need someone with the ability to spot the optics and the authority to stop own goals. Campbell might have been an abrasive bastard but he was at the top of his game.

Former Tory PM John Major on the Rwanda scheme: “I thought it was unConservative, unBritish, unChristian and unconscionable. We used to transport people 300 years ago from our country. I don’t think transportation is a policy suitable for the 20th century.”

I heard a substantial clip from the John Major interview on the Today programme. It's terrifying to see the gulf in quality between him and the current crop of Tory leadership contenders.

Especially when Badenoch claims that working at McDonalds made her working class Confused

I heard the baffling suggestion from Badenoch that working in McDonalds made her working class. Very odd - it indicates a lack of understanding regarding social mobility. Regardless of her work enviroment she had the benefit of a middle class upbringing and the ongoing support her family would have been able to offer should she need it.
I am not criticising her background - I had similar. But at no point did I think my waitressing and bar work rendered me working class.

But then she also said her child was right wing based on her love of meat. I didnt know that being an enthusiastic meat eater meant I was right wing.

countrygirl99 · 18/09/2024 09:32

I know a vegan who voted Reform and my DH is a confirmed carnivore socialist so I'm not sure her hypothesis wouldsta d up to rigorous scrutiny.

Absolutely. He was the last credible leader they had. Can you remember roughly what time that was? I’d like to listen to it.

John Major on brexit:

"Brexit has been the most divisive thing that has happened in our party... it's made our country weaker, poorer... it was going to be milk & honey straight away & it wasn't... we now have sovereignty to be poorer & less influential..."

"Taxes are higher and expenditure on public services is lower as a result of Brexit"

She's just trying to distance herself from the Tofu Eating Wokerati

PandoraSox · 18/09/2024 11:04

I hope she wins the leadership race. It will be hilarious to see her show herself up at PMQs.

Much merriment - and mockery on twitter for Ms Badenoch

Trending as #Waitrose - questioning if the reverse is true if working/shopping there

He really was, always respected him even though rarely agreed with any policies, I bumped into him once way taller than I expected & impeccably dressed lovely manners as well.
Thank you everyone for such kind words & support I’m extremely touched & for those of you dealing with health issues or caring for loved ones 💐
Saucery one of my favourite episodes.
As for the sainted one 🙄

This is the clarity of thought the Tory party needs. The rest of us, no thanks Kemi. You stick with your odd world view and please do take with you anyone of similar convictions. Give the rest of us a break.

Will I be royal if I work in Pizza Express, Woking? I do hope so, I fancy one of these 👑

Notonthestairs · 18/09/2024 12:17

Johnson is flogging a book. I presume the Telegraph or Mail will serialise etc. Maybe a little photo piece in Hello.

I think its interesting timing given its happening immediately after the Conservative conference at the end of the month/start of October. I presume he will make a showing there too.
