Yes that's exactly what I mean! I was worried my post might come across as "anti-pensioner" - I'm not! Thank you

ha i understood your point! i'm also not anti pensioner

CassieMaddox · 10/09/2024 14:51

Twitter still good for some things, even if it's being run by a redacted

Def think WFA is being used as a culture war now. Esther McVey is claiming its being removed because pensioners vote Tory

Side note - how come she's not in the Torybin?

Tories seem to be forgetting that in 2017, the means tested winter fuel payments was a policy they promised to implement themselves.

MPs just voted by 348 to 228 against a motion to scrap the winter fuel payment cut.

Things aren't helped by the UK having the most expensive energy in Europe, of course. Again, don't mention the war. I think I mentioned it once, but got away with it.

SerendipityJane · 10/09/2024 15:43

I see the VAT vanguard have managed to start a second thread on their snipe hunt. Although it does raise a wry smile to see the odd reference to "EU law" being batted away with "Brexit". All give thanks to the Telegraph, Mail and Express.

What is the stock comment on benefits and fsm threads, something about not having kids you can't afford, tinned tomatoes and lentils recipes, don't get your nails done 🤔

Faux vitriol. The few it really will bite in don't have time to waste posting shite here.

Has anyone replayed their greatest hits from June 2024, when they were predicting a massive Labour loss because of this policy as the entire UK gathered behind them to reject it ? Or has that been put in the same drawer as the hysterical predictions that not "knowing what a women was" would cost Labour every single seat in this election and the next ?

It wouldn't surprise me if maybe in the 2028 election, certainly 2034, the winning party will have been revealed as one whose strategy was directed from a "clean room" with no internet access whatsoever.

Yes if MN could be believed in the 6 weeks run up, labour would lose purely on the trans 'debate', VAT on uni fee's and letting all the immigrants in.... strange that.

hopefully thats the case for the next elections

And all in the face of repeatedly being told it was a minority issue and polling did not support their assertions

No I redacted myself because I didn't want to attract the lovers of that person to the thread! And couldn't think of an appropriate insult.

If they "do a Truss" twice surely that proves its a feature not a bug

News that will be met around the country by the phrase, "Who?"...

I have just been reading letters to the Guardian about the WFA. They are printing lies. This one says:

They’ve robbed us pensioners
I was made redundant from my job in construction when I was 58 and so I’ve received the winter fuel payment every year since then (what a whopper of a lie) which has helped pay for the gas and electricity bills. My wife has a part-time job which means we can’t get pension credit as it takes our household income over the [eligibility] limit.

I feel like I’m being penalised for working my whole life. I’ve applied for painting, decorating and handyman jobs to earn a bit of money but employers don’t want to give them to someone my age. Now we’ll either have to turn the heating off or cut down on food.

I’ve always been a Conservative voter but last year I voted for Reform (surprise😁!)The last few elections before that I didn’t vote for anyone as I was fed up with politics in general. The Conservatives under Boris Johnson were a shambles and Partygate was shocking, but I didn’t expect Labour to go ahead with this.

God knows what’s going to happen in the budget in October but they’ve [the government] robbed us pensioners. John, 75, Hartlepool

Low Pay Commission has announced the National Living Wage is going up to £12.10ph from April.

Good job we got 5.5% because otherwise I might be in danger of being on near minimum wage at the top of band 3. I feel more strikes coming on unless there’s also a significant pay increase for 25/26.

I was rather impishly looking forward to Mel Stride leader of the opposition. (Who?)

I did see something about Tories needing to adapt to moving from power to influence now they are in opposition. Bless them for thinking they have influence.

Finally. A break for carers putting in 18 hour days.

If you read the Express, you'd think they were still in power. What with their "raging" and "demands" and "blasts". In fact the only thing preventing me scoring a perfect MN bingo is "fuming".
