My is 17 years old and I am utterly sick of it. It just won't die!

I've never bough a new one just because it is old. we a re in a super hard water area I'm astounded it's still standing

It's a Miele.

What do you do with a 17 year old machine that still works?

Mine is 3 years old and quite nice.
I inherited my grandma's zanussi washer/dryer combo and had that in our flat, it's now rented out, it's now 18 years old. I offered to buy a new one but the tenants love it, it's a great machine.

My dad's miele is 23 so sadly I think yours might be around a while longer!

Sunnyside4 · 03/09/2024 19:17

For me, keep it until it packs up. My first washing machine lasted 18 years (cheap Indesit), stopped heating water, then three washes later wouldn't drain. Had Two more Indesits since, second only lasted seven years, current one five years old.

Dbank · 03/09/2024 19:25

this is a common problem with Miele appliances, I have a double oven that's 20+ years that has the same "problem".

PamperGoals2024 · 03/09/2024 19:26

Why is it a problem? If it still works.

It was meant in jest, hence the quotes

pamshortsbrokenbothherlegs · 03/09/2024 19:29

My mum has a perfectly-functioning Maytag that is older than I am (I'll be 41 this month). 😅

Favouritefruits · 03/09/2024 19:30

About a month old, my fourth in ten years! I’ve had two set on fire, I think I’m the unluckiest washing machine owner ever!

Munchyseeds2 · 03/09/2024 19:39

Mine is 20 years old, a siemens
I don't want it to die!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 03/09/2024 19:45

Almost five years old. Bought new when we moved into new house. Same can’t be said for the dryer but thanks to a cock up and being messed about on the deliveries from curry’s we ended up with two identical dryers so we kept the extra one in the garage until the other one died.

<waves and mouths thank you at curry’s>

Sethera · 03/09/2024 19:49

Mine's about two and a half years old. It replaced one of the same make and same but earlier model that we'd had eight years. It's a fairly cheap Indesit.

overgrowntoddler · 03/09/2024 19:57

I'm sick of it because it is really manky!

But can't justify getting rid of something that functions and that is the "problem".

Suppose it a bit of "my diamond shoes are to tight" post - sorry about that. No stealth boast intended.

It's a Miele from an auction - no idea how DH found it.

Mine is now 15 years old. It is a AEG and my last AEG lasted 10 years. My sister's Miele is 18 years old and still going strong. Haven't heard her wanting to replace it tbh. I want to replace mine with a Siemens or Miele when it finally bites the dust. I had a Siemens dishwasher which was 19 years old and still working well when we moved house. Would have brought it with me but it was a new build and the new dishwasher was an integrated one. - - the new one lasted 7 years--

RoseyLentil · 03/09/2024 20:08

Mine is a Miele. It's 5 years old and I'd be very happy if it was still going strong after 27 years or even 23 years 👍

SometimeSomewhere · 03/09/2024 20:09

We have two. One is 3 years old, one is 5 years old. We do a lot of washing, I think the longest one has lasted us is 9 years.

overgrowntoddler · 03/09/2024 20:26

If we had space it would be perfect for washing just the dog blankets in.

Yeah, we have lots of animals so that's why we got a second.

Solonga · 03/09/2024 21:12

We had a Zanussi which lasted years, in the end we got rid of it because it smelt and seemed to get bits of scale in the wash, just because they still work it doesn't mean they are good for washing.

HundredMilesAnHour · 03/09/2024 21:16

Mine is 24 years old and still going strong and does everything I need it to do (apart from the ironing 😂)

It's Siemens. Still looks good and not at all dated either.

I'm in a very hard water area but just use Calgon (or supermarket own brand equivalent) with every wash.

Oldandcobwebby · 03/09/2024 21:18

My Bosch is only two years old, but it's predecessor (another Bosch) went on for 22 years. It was killed by a flood from the room above.

BMW6 · 03/09/2024 21:19

Our Bosche slimline is nearly 20 years old and still does a perfect job.

We are also in a hard water area but I put soda crystals in on a delicate wash once a month, or a cup of white vinegar directly into the drum.

CrushingOnRubies · 03/09/2024 21:19

4 months old

Last one came with the house no idea how old it was. Just started tripping the electrics and stopped working one day

Cookerhood · 03/09/2024 21:24

My Miele is 9.5 years old. I think the Bosch before that was maybe 12 years old?

MissConductUS · 03/09/2024 21:27

My twelve year old Miele W3033 washer started leaking water in June, and rather than fix it we bought a new one. 😁 I love all of the new features and cycles.

Just pretend it's broken and replace it.

Mitpit · 03/09/2024 21:47

Bosch washing machine 9 years dishwasher Bosch 14 years
