TV shows like Outnumbered & Modern Family

14yo DD's favourite programme when younger was Outnumbered and she now loves Modern Family but has watched it so many times she is getting a bit bored. It's the semi-realistic family life where they face minor problems but you know it's going to work out and they'll all end up living happily ever after that makes it perfect cosy TV watching for her.
I've been trying to think of something similar and failed! She finds Friends dull and fake.
Half hour episodes and plenty of series would be a bonus! We have every streaming platform possible it seems.

Yes agree with The Office US version, Young Sheldon and Miranda.

Mine was similar - a huge Modern Family fan. The other ones she loves are Superstore and Brooklyn 99. Also really enjoyed Schitts Creek and Motherland

Another vote for The Middle, its great, brilliant characters and heartwarming but not too cheesey- much like Modern Family.

OuterSpaceCadet · 03/09/2024 09:52

Another vote for Derry Girls, Motherland and Malcolm in the Middle.

Also, what about the Simpsons? So many episodes!

On BBC Sounds, I love Tom Wrigglesworth's Hang Ups. Gentle but utterly hilarious, about a grown up son's relationship with his parents after moving out. Really captures family idiosyncrasies.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 03/09/2024 09:53

Malcolm in the Middle.

Thats show was hilarious.

tattygrl · 03/09/2024 09:54

Another vote for Schitt's Creek. So cosy and cheering, and very funny! The initial premise of the show might not seem very "normal family life", but as it goes on it becomes very much about their new normal and how they live now.

madamepresident · 03/09/2024 09:55

I agree with The Middle - very underrated

Hoppingblackbird · 03/09/2024 09:57

The Middle, Black-ish, Young Sheldon, Everybody Loves Raymond

drowninginsick · 03/09/2024 09:58

Parcs and Recreation on ITV player atm and the good place on Netflix have a nice similar vibe

shellyleppard · 03/09/2024 09:59

How I met your mother is good, bit risque at times. The middle is really funny too

JamSlag · 03/09/2024 10:00

Fresh Off the Boat is really funny (on Disney, I think). I also second The Middle.

Hoppingblackbird · 03/09/2024 10:02

Maybe Virgin River on Netflix.

RenoDakota · 03/09/2024 10:04

Has she seen Gilmore Girls?
I, personally, find Lorelai Gilmore a bit annoying but my daughter (now 20) loved it, and watched it over and over.

VanillaImpulse · 03/09/2024 10:04

2.4 children on bbc iPlayer

Not sure if My Family is on there too

Maybe a bit dated?

Comedycook · 03/09/2024 10:06

Yes! How did I forget this ? Great shout

Isobel201 · 03/09/2024 10:11

Its really old now, but she may like the Royle family? Its still on BBC I player

Sia8899 · 03/09/2024 10:11

I always liked My Family. It can be a bit silly but went on for 11 series because it was really popular. They never really face serious problems and the parents clearly love each other despite all the disagreements

Twoshoesnewshoes · 03/09/2024 10:11

Here We Go on iplayer
Jen from IT crowd is the mum, v gentle, predictable, funny

Baseline14 · 03/09/2024 10:11

Everybody loves Raymond for me. It's so familiar and it's the same arguments in our house and generally quite light hearted. I can't watch malcolm in the middle again yet because I have a house full of growing boys and it's TOO similar to my carnage.

Kitkat1523 · 03/09/2024 10:12

Young Sheldon

Sia8899 · 03/09/2024 10:12

As above, Friday Night Dinner is also a good shout

Here we go is highly underrated in my opinion. The brother in law is such a plonker Grin
