Bloody oven gloves that actually WORK

Please vipers of MN, tel me which oven gloves to buy that will last and won’t split or crack in a matter of weeks.

I like long ones that cover the wrist, 2 individual mitts and a thumb - like bit mittens. I hate the tiny silicone ones and have just burnt myself using a pair after a trust pair of Jamie Oliver mitts gave up the ghost last week.

I know it’s boring AF, but what oven mitts/gloves do you swear by please?!

My best pair are from Aldi, but they do have silicone hands so you wouldn't like them!

NormalAuntFanny · 02/09/2024 20:17

We have some aga ones, they are about 10 years old and are still good - they do have a decade of stains on them but otherwise have done well for the money.

When they finally get too worn we have a pair of le creuset ones in the drawer which look similarly well made but are horribly new and clean!

AgathaMystery · 02/09/2024 20:22

Thank you both!!

I’m not totally adverse to a silicone hand - it’s just those tiny pinchy hand thingies I hate.

Tea towel here can’t get on with oven gloves.

I have the full length version of these https://www.coolskin.com/

Fab - would you buy them again?

Second the Aga and le Crueset joined mitts, have had both brands and they lasted at least ten years. I do chuck them in the washing machine though and they've stayed in pretty good nic. Also had similar but unbranded which were a navy blue butcher's stripe type.

Amazon link Currently have something like these and also some oven cloths, which work very well too
another Amazon link to similar cloths

other retailers are available 😉

Ive got cloth oven gloves with large silicone hands. I was forever getting burnt. They're great.

Yes definitely. I love that they go up my arms so no risk of an arm touching part of the oven as I am taking stuff out. I also much prefer having actual fingers over the mitten style - I find it much easier to grip things.

DH does most of our cooking but is quite a wuss when it comes to handling anything hotter than lukewarm - he swears by the Coolskin ones posted earlier

I like the material squares
I got mine from Ikea

Same! I find oven gloves too thick and can't grip baking trays or Pyrex dishes properly.

I also like these and have used the aga mitten type ones before and they are good too.

Lovelysummerdays · 02/09/2024 21:02

It’s not for everyone but I use the fireproof gloves that I got for the woodstove. They are a bit industrial looking but at less than a fiver from Amazon a bargain mines have been going strong for years.

Ifailed · 02/09/2024 21:03

Get some welding gloves.

TwistedSisters · 02/09/2024 21:04

I have a pair of old fashioned dual ones , I think I got them from TK Maxx, they're approx 10 years old and still going strong (apart from many baked in stains which just add character 😁).

PollyOrange · 02/09/2024 21:07

Lakeland used to do some which were made of some sort of firefighters fire resistant type fabric
I've got the silicone ones but where it's silicone at the end of a glove. My old le creuset ones are now thin and you dice with burns when you use th bit they were a wedding present so I'm
Loathe to get rid of them

daisychicken · 02/09/2024 21:07

Any recommendations for those of us with tiny hands? I did have some cuisinart mini oven mitts but they couldn't handle hot pots from the oven - the heat proof coating melted and left black streaks on anything it touched...

BurntBroccoli · 02/09/2024 21:12

Always used tea towels. Ovengloves make me clumsy as I can't grasp things properly.

SmallGreenBabies · 02/09/2024 21:13

I've had ones like these for donkey's years, they're brilliant.

halava · 02/09/2024 21:16

Tea towel for me also. I find I can't grab the dishes as well with gloves. + I have asbestos fingers.😉

CCSS15 · 02/09/2024 21:35

Masterclass silicon oven glove - buy 2 of the singles rather than the double. Total game changer, mine are used daily and got them in 2018

AgathaMystery · 02/09/2024 21:40

Thank you all so much, I’m going to go away, read up on all these and conduct a Which? Style master list of oven gloves. The world needs it.
