Hi I need a two or three bedroom house, somewhere with good access to walking and running trails outdoors and a decent town with an independent cinema or film club within a half an hour drive/train ride/bus ride.

Needs to be an area where there is likely to be demand for in person private psychotherapy.

I have a son with disability so it needs to be somewhere relatively tame and manageable with regard to getting around safely at night on public transport. He loves animation and taking part in inclusive theatre.

Any ideas?

I have a good friend in Scotland (near Edinburgh) and whilst I love to visit I'm put off by the weather

The weather is no worse than many places in England. It’s obviously cooler if you’re comparing to the south coast but, if you are willing to consider northern England, then there’s no reason to rule out Scotland on the basis of weather.

entirely different educational system = free university

Relevant for some. Before that though the educational situation for disabled children / YP has much less legal scaffolding around it than in England.

MtClair · 01/09/2024 19:24

Sheffield.
I think would tick all your boxes

LadyGilley · 01/09/2024 19:25

Trail running is huge in south wales too, loads of running groups do trails and lots of trail races and Chapter Arts is the independent cinema.

Another vote for Ilkley. There’s a great community of parents with young adults with SEN too

Suggestions for Leicester and Leicestershire...how bizarre!

Do you want to live in a big city like Leicester, OP?
The county has rolling countryside but not well known for great walking. Public transport can be limited in the county towns and villages. Independent cinemas thin on the ground. Market Harborough may tick some boxes but not others. No idea about the demand for psychotherapy! Rutland is nice but can be expensive and few amenities.

Monmouth in south Wales is a nice town with an independent theatre/cinema and within easy reach of Brecon Beacons/Black Mountains.

These are lovely. The Cotswold Stone is such a wonderful colour in that first one

@Octavia64 We would be moving mid course so it would be good for him to be able to go fairly swiftly. Are FE colleges generally geared up to assist students with additional learning needs? He is doing a Level 2 course.

They both wfh, he commutes to London occasionally so the station is really handy. Derby and Sheffield, Chesterfield are easy on the train.
