Hi I need a two or three bedroom house, somewhere with good access to walking and running trails outdoors and a decent town with an independent cinema or film club within a half an hour drive/train ride/bus ride.

Needs to be an area where there is likely to be demand for in person private psychotherapy.

I have a son with disability so it needs to be somewhere relatively tame and manageable with regard to getting around safely at night on public transport. He loves animation and taking part in inclusive theatre.

Any ideas?

I have a good friend in Scotland (near Edinburgh) and whilst I love to visit I'm put off by the weather

And remember it's an entirely different educational system & the NHS has some differences. Income Tax is higher.

Octavia64 · 01/09/2024 18:56

If his record of need is not transferable I'd be. Bit wary of moving.

The equivalent in England is an EHCP and there are major delays on the process of getting them.

How bothered are you about having him in education quickly after you move?

Derbyshire, the dales are lovely.

Thanet
St Leonard's
Hastings

I agree St Leonard’s/ Hastings. Two independent little cinemas. Great sea front for running and nature reserve and South Downs for trail running. If you are coming from Channel Islands I’d stay south. I was born NW and now live in Hastings and the weather is much better all year round.

@Objectrelations I’m not local but have been many times, and it seems like a busy town to me. Also surrounding areas are fairly well-populated. I really like the atmosphere there and everyone is so friendly. Love the architecture too, lots of pretty Georgian streets.

My instinct was Abergavenny/Brecon also. I don’t know about transferability of your sons certificate to Wales - the rule may be different to England. Education and Health are both devolved.

I need to have a look at Ilkley I have heard really good things about it.

It would be perfect - you could have a private practice in Leeds.

But Ilkely is £££ ....

Most of Scotland

Flaskfan · 01/09/2024 19:03

I'd have said ne Wales, but public transport is awful.

Wirral, some parts, or outskirts of Chester. Lots of places to walk and run. Trains criss cross the Wirral.

allmycats · 01/09/2024 19:04

Sheffield, edge of Peak District, major hospitals and loads of things to do. Central of UK for all major roads and railways.

grassyknees · 01/09/2024 19:05

Chichester? Close to South Downs, in town but countryside and coast easily accessible.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 01/09/2024 19:05

Leicester or Leicestershire. I would recommend South side of the city, Knighton area is nice but not as pricey as neighbouring Clarendon Park. That said you could get 2/3 bed terrace for your budget in C.P. Or Oadby (just outside the city) still pretty close to the city but also close to countryside.

LadyGilley · 01/09/2024 19:06

Cardiff. I don’t know about potential
clients. Wales is not rich, and it’s population small.

Wirral. There’s an independent cinema in Chester. This house (randomly picked!) is well within your budget, near the station and near the Wirral Way which is an old railway track, ideal for running. https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/151785722

I used to live in Scotland. Loved in, but now I am south wales I would not move back. I love being warmer and spend so much more time outside and in nature than I did in Scotland.
