Hi I need a two or three bedroom house, somewhere with good access to walking and running trails outdoors and a decent town with an independent cinema or film club within a half an hour drive/train ride/bus ride.

Needs to be an area where there is likely to be demand for in person private psychotherapy.

I have a son with disability so it needs to be somewhere relatively tame and manageable with regard to getting around safely at night on public transport. He loves animation and taking part in inclusive theatre.

Any ideas?

Aberystwyth? Costal path and a sizeable student population. It has an independent cinema and a broad range of clubs. Quite a self contained place but plenty to explore in the surrounding area.

Fife: 30 minute trains to Edinburgh, great walking on doorstep, nice coastal towns. Dunfermline, Dalgety Bay, Burntisland would all be in budget.

Wow some amazing suggestions coming in thank-you

Around Birmingham? It's much derided but Worcestershire and the Black Country have lots of green space- look at Halesowen Stourbridge Worcestershire and around. Great public transport and a big population.

On a totally different level the south east coast- between Brighton and Eastbourne there are loads of villages, loads of green space and a surprisingly efficient bus system. You'd get less for your money but it's a lovely area

I have a good friend in Scotland (near Edinburgh) and whilst I love to visit I'm put off by the weather

Agree with north of Newcastle, some of the Northumberland market towns will fit your bill. Whitley Bay is very family friendly as a coastal alternative.

@toomanydiets I was in Malvern the other week and fell in love a little bit but there are loads of psychotherapists there !!

Dorking, Surrey - you get 2 bed terraces come up, Think it fits your criteria, has Dorking halls for cinema / theatre. Good connection links - some bits of the town are hilly, so dependent on type of disability may or may not be suitable. Plenty of walks, etc. Easy to get to London and Guildford. Gatwick near but not too close. I've always felt safe going out - worked in the town and lived in various surrounding villages.

Pretty much anywhere in Leicestershire. You could get a job instantly too as there’s a shortage

Is there a huge demand for private psychotherapists in Leicestershire?

What's causing the demand for them?

I obviously need to venture North of York! I absolutely love York but I'm not sure about finding somewhere there that I can get out running and walking off road without having to jump in the car.

Malvern is lovely but have a look at Bromsgrove, Stourport etc. There are lots of beautiful places in the uk and with your budget you should have a lot of choice. Also depends on how you rate house (terrace, detached, period) and transport/ links to big cities for work. Good luck!

Objectrelations · 01/09/2024 18:43

I like a few hills and my son has no physical issues with walking

Stroud, Gloucestershire.lots of wonderful walking in that part of the Cotswolds and huge demand for therapy. It would be a modest house, but do able.

@Roselilly36 Norwich looks good but what about off road walks and runs? I was looking at Poringland on the map and that looks promising do you know it? It seems bit limited for off road footpaths in many areas looking at the map.

I am not in a position to do walks sadly, but my son and his gf, go on some brilliant walks. Property is great value, beaches are sandy and gorgeous. People are friendly and talk to you. We moved to Norwich from the south coast during lockdown, best decision we ever made. Such a lovely, historic and relatively safe city. Weather is great here on the East coast too.

Roselilly36 · 01/09/2024 18:44

Hills and Norfolk aren’t really a thing, tbh.

PoshTosh · 01/09/2024 18:44

Stroud in Gloucestershire is very disability friendly generally, it’s quite an alternative place with lots of home ed families. Stroud college has good courses for all levels, plus arts. Stroud has its own cinema but Wotton Under Edge has an independent cinema about a half away. There’s also lots of Theatre related courses in the Bristol area. Stroud canal and cycle track for a flat run, oodles of bumpy countryside for more adventurous runs.

Slushynana · 01/09/2024 18:47

Belper, Derbyshire, my son lives there, it is lovely. Has a cinema, lovely independent shops and restaurants, a railway station, lovely parks.
