ChatGPT can get in the fucking bin. Fuming.

There was a thread on twitter asking people to see what ChatGPT said about them, so I tried it with my MN username. After correctly identifying that I was a well-respected member of the MN community I decided to ask it some more direct questions.

Anyway, ChatGPT confidently told me that I was an openly Conservative voter who regularly expresses right wing views and then that I voted for Nigel fucking Farage in 2015.

What. The. Fuck.

I have to say that any remaining faith I had in AI has been shattered by this.

That's so weird.

invisiblecat · 31/08/2024 20:28

Aaaarghhhh!

HappiestSleeping · 31/08/2024 20:29

It's a shame more people don't realise how shit it can be. It has good points, but it sure isn't foolproof.

It's well known it hallucinates.

I think it would be quite hard to conclude that from my MN posting history.

Hah! That’s hilarious.

A good example of the limits of large language mode AI, ie your posting history is irrelevant.

63isMe · 31/08/2024 20:34

Perhaps it picked up on aggressive and dogmatic views though? And interpreted them as right wing.

SensibleSigma · 31/08/2024 20:34

Even I know you better than that!

Mumof2namechange · 31/08/2024 20:35

AI works on stereotypes. Many non-mumsnet users think all mumsnetters are as described above. Clearly, we aren't. But that's what AI does, it just rehashes common opinions

That would be fair enough, except it says I voted for Farage, specifically in 2015! I can assure you that I did not.

I doubt it's even about op individually. It thought "I need to describe a mumsnet user. Chances are, she's like xyz"

Nope, because I asked it about another poster and it was like 'oh no, she's progressive, she definitely didn't vote for Nigel Farage'. Angry

Try asking it to describe a typical reddit user or typical Facebook user and it'll give you offensive stereotypes too, I'm sure

AtomicBlondeRose · 31/08/2024 20:38

I asked ChatGPT to work out a basic maths question for me (how much in petrol it would cost me to make a journey). I can do it myself but thought it would be the sort of thing ChatGPT was made for. However it did one part of the calculation completely wrong (think multiply rather than divide) and told me it was going to cost £1.14 to drive 400 miles!

FinallyYouSaid · 31/08/2024 20:38

Might have been sarcasm - AI can't usually pick up on it.

Like 'Yeah right. And I voted for Farage last time 🙄'. AI would just take that as fact.

noblegiraffe · 31/08/2024 20:38

It's not 'describe a typical MNetter' though. It says that I posted that I voted for UKIP.

Do you post on FWR? Maybe they stereotyped a FWR poster.

(I'm on FWR a lot, recently name changed. Sorry om bad at remembering usernames though)

RedToothBrush · 31/08/2024 20:39

It's all the dickheads saying MN is far right. Therefore all posters on MN are far right. I wouldn't take it too personally.

Mumof2namechange · 31/08/2024 20:41

Actually maybe I do remember you, op, from threads about teaching... are you a maths teacher? Did chatgpt pick up on that? I can't remember your politics though.

IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos · 31/08/2024 20:42

Have you been sarky about Farage and his views on MN and it's decided you must be serious??

PattyDuckface · 31/08/2024 20:43

Everyone one is far right now.

The AI gets it.

noblegiraffe · 31/08/2024 20:43

I asked it about a typical mumsnetter and it said they wouldn't vote Farage.
