It’s not even the end of August and it feels so gloomy. I’ve got a lot going on atm and it’s just making everything feel worse.

Sorry that you are struggling.

Personally I find the darker evenings comforting. I love summer but it’s not really been that summery this year so I would rather just move on to wearing scarfs and tights!

CalicoPusscat · 27/08/2024 21:13

It feels odd doesn't it, it was only earlier on this evening that I thought "blimey, dark already"

HoppityBun · 27/08/2024 21:13

The thing is, people only notice that the days are getting longer a few weeks before the summer solstice. Make sure on 21 December to tell yourself that the days are now getting longer by 13 minutes a week and watch as it happens.

Vettrianofan · 27/08/2024 21:14

I am glad to block out the world by 6pm by getting curtains closed & jammies on. I enjoy dark walks at night with the family though.

EternallyDelighted · 27/08/2024 21:15

Yes, it's so depressing, I love the long light evenings and being able to be out and about or in the garden till bedtime (and I don't want to be out there with blankets and firepits). Snuggling on the sofa just saps my energy.

ProvincialLady2024 · 27/08/2024 21:16

I think because this summer has been dreadful, I'm not ready for Autumn.

I don't usually mind the darker evenings this side of Xmas. Its January and Feb that seem like such a slog.

Yes it feels like a security blanket

Comedycook · 27/08/2024 21:17

It's hideous

DrPeculiar · 27/08/2024 21:19

No, I love them and feel less pressured. More time to read. DC and I always choose to watch an hour of tv together a few nights a week at the start of the darker evenings even if we’re not both at home.

Bathwoodnurse · 27/08/2024 21:20

I welcome the dark evenings - they keep my horrible neighbours indoors. Autumn is my favourite season anyway.

My perfect day would be sunny from 8am with a high of 24 degrees. Then dark at 6pm and cooling to 15 degrees overnight.

I realise I just described the Canary Islands pretty much all year round. Sigh.

ThePoshUns · 27/08/2024 21:26

Me. I find Winter really hard. We haven't had a summer IMO, I feel robbed. I'm dreading the winter it's going to be a long one at this rate.

frozendaisy · 27/08/2024 21:26

Worse this year no lengthy summer

EternallyDelighted · 27/08/2024 21:27

My perfect day would be sunny from 5am to 11pm with a high of about 22°, I probably ought to move to Scandinavia, but the thought of their long hours of darkness in winter puts me right off. .

stayathomer · 27/08/2024 21:28

Sorry op, loving that my pjs can go on early now!! I will admit I do feel like summer shouldn’t be over yet!!

longdistanceclaraclara · 27/08/2024 21:28

Yep. Summer hasn't happened this year. We've sat out twice in our garden in the evening.

Singleandproud · 27/08/2024 21:29

No DD hates the heat and bright sunlight so it means we've been able to get out and go out earlier. We just got back from a night beach run with bats flying overhead

AllThePotatoesAreSinging · 27/08/2024 21:33

Yes and no.

I’m thoroughly resentful that we’ve had a second shit summer and that I really wanted to put the heating on today but it’s August and I’d rather eat slugs than put my heating on in August. So I had to use 2 blankets instead.

The weather is so rubbish it’s got me thinking about Autumn, Halloween and Christmas and I’ve decided to sack off this unsummer and fast forward. Hopefully next year will be better. I feel like I’ve been saying this for a few years now. I’ve been on maternity leave for a year now and I can count on one hand how many nice days we’ve been able to enjoy as a family outside of work days, nursery etc.

mondaytosunday · 27/08/2024 21:52

Oh I like it! Autumn is my favourite season - still too hot out though, 24 today!

Gymnopedie · 27/08/2024 21:54

The dark nights go on for months, the really light nights only for a very few weeks. I love it when there's still light in the sky at 11.00.

LyonsLion · 27/08/2024 23:04

Yes it’s the lack of summer which adds to it all just feeling a bit bleak.

I refuse to believe that.

I'm not ready for summer to be over!
