I couldn't remember how old I am!

For the last couple of weeks I've been trying to remember my age, and for the life of me, I just couldn't remember if I was 47 or 48. I also couldn't be arsed to work it out. So today I used an online age calculator and discovered that I am in fact 47 years old! That was good news, as if I had to place a bet, I would have said 48.

Does this happen to anyone else?!

Do you not know what year you were born? Seems like a simple calculation !

I am also 47 but I usually have to stop and work it out.

I can always work it out because I know what year I was born, but I do forget sometimes.

Occasionally it's taken me a few seconds but I know what year I was born, so can work it out from that 🤷‍♂️

And did you not have to put the year you were born into the online age calculator? 😳

Yes. I always seem to add an extra year. When I work it out by subtracting my birth year, I’m always pleasantly surprised! But then again I’m repeatedly shocked every time I see it’s 2024, and it’s nearly August. You’d think the penny would have dropped by now.

I spent an entire year of my life telling people I was 36 when I was in fact 35. Felt like I won a bonus year when I turned 36 'again' 😂

I read a comment earlier saying you should have to be over 38 to buy oasis tickets. I was very irritated, I grew up on oasis, you can’t stop me buying tickets! Took me a while to remember I am in fact 39… (also I don’t want oasis tickets…)

I haven't known how old I am for the past three decades. It's not that important (for me). Of course I know approximately within a year of two but that's it. Right now if you asked me I would say I am roughly 50 ish plus maybe😂

Isn’t it one of the standard questions doctors ask to ascertain if you’re compos mentis?

One of the reasons I'm always pleased that I was born in a zero year!

I have to work out if it's an odd or even year to get into the ball park, then if it's before or after after my birthday. You are not alone!

Me too! Just have to remember which month we're in to see if I've had a birthday this year.....

Yes absolutely. I’m mid forties. I think I was very aware in the build up to being 40 and now I’m like “whatever” 😁😁.
I’m not bad at maths either! But it all blurs into one. I have to try to remember the birthday cards!

I can remember my age , but trying to remember distant family ages gets me sometimes.
I did wake up yesterday forgetting which day it was , that was scary for a moment

I have forgotten my age a few times, had to really think hard. I am perimenopause, so whether it's because of that, im not sure. I'm 43

This seems a bit worrying, OP. Firstly that you forgot and secondly that you required an ‘online age calculator’ to do the maths.

I thought I was a few years younger than I am told my grown up kids my age in general conversation. They then in general conversation told their dad my ex how old I was. Apparently his delight telling them I was actually several years older was apparently quite the thing to see 😡

I know what year I was born.... I just forget what my actual age is! And I work it out in my head, but I can't be sure I'm correct

DS 2 put two years in me the other day ! I wasn't impressed 😂

I have done this regularly and am the same age as you, OP. My excuse is that my birthday is near the end of the year, so I spend the year thinking oh God I'm going to be X age this year, and end up convinced that I already am!

My birthday is in December so I turn X yrs & then a couple of weeks later I'm thinking "oh I'll be x+1 this year"

I remember having a Drs appt one Jan & when asked my age had to think was I x or x+1!
