Skittles Vodka

Does anyone remember a few years ago when making Skittles (and I think, Werthers) vodka was a MN thing? As I recall it was put on the top rack of the dishwasher to 'cook' and then into somewhere dark and had to be shaken each day for 2 weeks. I made it one year and gave it as Christmas presents and it went down really well.

I was telling someone about it today and they looked at me like I was mad. 😂 I'm thinking of doing it again this year.

Does anyone else remember it or make it?

Yes! I seem to remember you had to take the green ones out otherwise it turned brown

Shouldbedoing · 25/08/2024 15:52

I made some of each. The Werthers dissolved much better than the Skittles

This is a vital element I had forgotten. Thanks for the reminder 😁

I make Werthers vodka for DP every chrismas, but 2021 we made Skittles vodka for ds's step-sister. I decorated a cut down cereal box and made labels, looked really good.

I don't bother with the dishwasher step, just shake frequently.

We did it as students and I remember all the 's' s rising to the top.

I'm a big fan of Werthers vodka served over ice creme with a splash of aerosol creme

Add a bag of the hard candies to a kilner type bottle with a wide neck, top up to 700ml with cheap vodka and leave it in a warm place. Airing cupboard.

Finding wide neck bottles saves having to break up the candies.

My advise is to not check how it's going for quality control purposes every time you visit the airing cupboard. It seems to make it evaporate much faster than normal.

Skittles vodka also fun. Certainly more fun to separate out the colours.

Love the carton above.

Used to do it 20+ years ago! Before I knew Mumsnet was a thing
Blackjack vodka is even better ( fruit salads work too)
One big bottle vodka, drink a bit add 4/5 pkt, shake when you remember, when it's dissolved it's ready

TonTonMacoute · 25/08/2024 19:48

Just made some blackberry vodka, with beautiful juicy blackberries. Can't imagine it made with boiled sweets. Sounds horrible!

exLtEveDallas · 25/08/2024 19:53

I've been making sweetie (and choc) vodka in the dishwasher since I got my first one in 2005! IIRC it went massive on here in 2008/2009 when I was making it for house parties when living in Cyprus.

All boiled sweets do well - things with gelatin not so much. With Skittles you need to remove the green ones or it turns brown. Galaxy dishwasher vodka is the best neat, cough candy twist the best with a mixer.

Still make Blackjack vodka at Christmas. Kola Kube vodka too. Important to strain the sugar scum though....

Thistooshallpass24 · 25/08/2024 22:12

Boiled sweet vodka is great, think I'm going to make some tomorrow for old times sake

Spanglybangles · 25/08/2024 22:16

We used to make creamola foam vodka….soooo good. There was a pub we went to that had it on optic 🤣

Peasnbeans · 25/08/2024 22:18

Mint vodka too.

ICantThinkOfOne13 · 25/08/2024 22:18

Can someone explain how you do it? Please!

longdistanceclaraclara · 25/08/2024 22:37

Not a couple of years ago, many years ago and no dishwasher involved. Pout half a bottle of lemonade away, add a bag of skittles, top up with vodka.

Thistooshallpass24 · 25/08/2024 22:41

@longdistanceclaraclara lemonade? Never seen it done like that
Always been big bottle vodka few drinks out of it , boiled sweets , shaken when remembered , sweets dissolved? It's ready !

Blackjacks sound great. I can think of a few people who would enjoy it.

I remember I put it in the small Christmas bottles from IKEA and gave as Xmas gifts that year.

2008/9 sounds about right.

Heron have "our wullie" iron brew chew sweets in at the minute I think they are four for a pound, I think they would taste amazing!

Fudgetheparrot · 26/08/2024 00:48

We did it at uni, it was foul. We didn’t have a sieve though so it had a bunch of scum on top (still drank it obviously). Would have been 2011/2012 for us but I wasn’t on numsnet then!

Ezekiela · 26/08/2024 02:39

Like PP, I also separated the Skittles colours. I love Werthers Originals vodka.

Sherbet Lemon vodka is really good. I added some edible shimmer stuff to it; looked and tasted fabulous.

I have some blackberry gin on the go as well but what I would say is, don't knock it until you've tried it.

catscarestars · 26/08/2024 08:10

I made Terry's chocolate orange once. Delicious when served straight from the freezer.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 26/08/2024 08:19

Honeyberry gin is great, but my favourite is Christmas pudding vodka. So everything that's in Christmas pudding except the flour, butter and eggs, maybe milk too if you add it. I steep it then double strain through a muslin. It's lovley with apple juice

Thistooshallpass24 · 26/08/2024 08:22

I do Xmas pudding gin/vodka too (again 20+ years!)
