Skittles Vodka

Does anyone remember a few years ago when making Skittles (and I think, Werthers) vodka was a MN thing? As I recall it was put on the top rack of the dishwasher to 'cook' and then into somewhere dark and had to be shaken each day for 2 weeks. I made it one year and gave it as Christmas presents and it went down really well.

I was telling someone about it today and they looked at me like I was mad. 😂 I'm thinking of doing it again this year.

Does anyone else remember it or make it?

I made Terry's chocolate orange once. Delicious when served straight from the freezer.

Just a chocolate orange dissolved in vodka? I didn't know chocolate would work.

Sherbert lemon vodka was a big hit that year too. If you up the quantity of werthers it makes an excellent toffee vodka sauce.

Is it very sweet?

I think I melted it first, then added it to the vodka and gave it a shake.

I make my own crème de cassis by adding gin or vodka to blackcurrants and sugar.
Probably about 500 grams of blackcurrants (no need to top and tail) to 500 ml of spirit, preferably 40 pct ABV, add sugar to taste. Wide necked bottles or large Kilner type jars are useful here.
Shake the jars from time to time and strain off the fruit after a month or so.

I did Red Skittle Vodka and Purple Skittle Vodka one year .
If you do use the dishwasher method , leave some space in the bottle and wrap it in layers of clingfilm in case it breaks .

Mine just dissolved itself . I filtered it through a coffee filter which turns it from cloudy to clear . Kept in the fridge it goes syrupy

Jelly Baby vodka 😋

First give the Babies a quick bath in cool water, with a gentle scrub to get rid of the cornflour. Next pack them into a jar and add vodka until covered. Close tightly and place at the back of the airing cupboard. Ignore for 3-4 weeks. Once they have dissolved, transfer carefully to the freezer without shaking. The mixture will reset. You can keep it in fridge or freezer, depending on how firm you like it.

Alternatively, put the Jelly Babies into a larger bottle, with more vodka. Repeat as above, but shake. This will give you JBV drink, rather than eat-with-a-spoon JBV.
