Very cute and cosy looking outfits for my 2 DC

Getting into a nice hot bath and feeling all cosy and warm compared to cold skin! At the moment, baths are just meh in the Summer

Putting a White Company oil in my diffuser that’s for colder months

Also looking forward to reading Ali Smith's Autumn.

Ifailed · 23/08/2024 20:44

Next year, once the bad weather and low temperatures have passed.

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 23/08/2024 20:45

My big coat with the big pockets
Colourful lights and decorations

Rattlethestars · 23/08/2024 20:50

Soup
Crumble
Cottages pie and roast dinners
Warm pyjamas
Hot chocolate
Warms baths for the kids with pyjamas on the radiators
Leaves changing colour
Crisp cold days
Porridge on cold mornings
Closing the blinds early
Lead up to Halloween and Christmas

For me, autumn and winter are the best seasons, and I love the cold weather and.dark nights.

Hoglet70 · 23/08/2024 20:58

DH just said he is looking forward to sleeping under the covers!

Hedjwitch · 23/08/2024 21:00

I only came on this thread for the hot choc and snuggling. It all sounds idyllic but in reality autumn will be cold, grey, windy and wet. Fallen leaves will turn to slippery sludge. It will be dark coming home from work. House will be cold as heating is too expensive. Wet washing everywhere. No shorts, bare feet, sitting in the garden, picking flowers.
Did I mention the rain?
Oh. And the house invaded by fucking spiders.

BellaBobbins · 23/08/2024 21:01

Autumn has always been my favourite season 🍂

I'm currently tidying up the garden and getting it all sorted for winter, it gets well used in the summer, so I'm in the middle of packing up the toys, washing down the big barbecue, and sorting out the storage benches.

All our blankets, throws and autumn cushion covers have been washed and ready to go on the sofas and beds.

Freezer is getting filled with blackberries, apples and rhubarb for crumbles.

I'm in my element getting my house all ready for the autumn and winter seasons.

stayathomer · 23/08/2024 21:06

Cozy books, scarves, closing the curtains and having pjs on, lights on early, fab sunsets, changing leaves, that smell of autumn!

scalt · 23/08/2024 22:21

I have our very own special pre-Christmas ritual to look forward to. Whenever my DH has Christmas presents for me, he wraps them in front of me, because I love hearing him do it. It would be even better if I could see what I’m going to get, but there’s a problem: I’m blindfolded. 🤩 It’s the silliest Christmas thing ever, but it brings me as much excitement as opening the presents does.

DH just said he is looking forward to sleeping under the covers!

I put my bedspread on today! It’s forecast to be in single figures overnight tomorrow, 8 degrees 🏆. My windows are still open a smidge but it’s good to have the bedspread on.

Jifmicroliquid · 23/08/2024 22:34

Those sunny but colder days with the sun getting lower, giving that proper Autumnal feel. It gives me a feeling of true happiness that I can’t describe.

Thicker jumpers and jackets. I love autumn/winter clothes.

The Halloween decorations in shops and garden centres. I love pumpkins and all the spooky stuff.

I’m so excited ☺️

Meadowwild · 23/08/2024 22:39

autumn fashion with a bit of a 70s vibe - trenchcoats with big scarves, long leather boots, cord trousers and skirts with thick sweaters.

autumn food - spicy home made root veg soups, crumble baked with blackberries and apples that I've picked myself

the colours and crunch of leaves as they turn red and gold

the smell of woodsmoke in the air

all the new tv dramas starting :)

ohfook · 24/08/2024 08:49

I've always been a summer girl (when we actually get a summer). I have a very Roman looking nose and I'm pretty sure I'm meant to be living my life in a little fishing village on the Italian coast somewhere.

But as I've got older (and my peri-meno skin has started burning to a crisp) I have started to appreciate the changing seasons more. I would love to live somewhere where you really see the difference though - where you're guaranteed a hot, sunny summer and a lovely snowy winter and spring wasn't just rainy and grey!

whisperedwish · 24/08/2024 10:44

I enjoy summer while it's here, but I am much more spiritually at home in autumn 🍂
I love opening the windows and conservatory doors and letting fresh breezes blow through the house. I'm not a 'snuggly' person, I love feeling the cooler, early autumn air in my home.
We usually go abroad on holiday at half term so when we get back is when I embrace autumn fully. I love my slow cooker being on and nights in with a book. I like to light an autumn scented candle too. I am looking forward to it all, it for now, I'm enjoying late August and all it has to offer.

SerafinasGoose · 24/08/2024 11:35

'Putting summer clothes away' is a thing I'm seeing often on these threads.

It's a thing I never do but my wardrobe is also increasingly cramped.

Where do people put them? Inquiring minds want to know!

Shergill15 · 24/08/2024 11:50

I love Autumn. For me:

  • a new school year for DD
  • those sunny but crisp mornings
  • the leaves changing colour
  • crunchy leaves and conkers
  • Autumn and winter clothes. I am not a shorts/skimpy clothes person!
  • DD's excitement for Halloween, Bonfire night and Christmas. Choosing Halloween and later Christmas decorations
  • Big yes to not having to mow the lawn!
ProvincialLady2024 · 24/08/2024 12:08

Autumn dog walks

Roast dinners and a film on Sunday evenings.

Apple & Blackberry Crumble.

Lighting the fire.

Soup and Crusty bread for lunch.

Conkers.

Giggorata · 24/08/2024 12:17

Autumn means:
My birthday, so some nice pressies and out to dinner.
Samhain celebrations with my coven and also a witchy weekend away at a period property.
Wonderful colours and earthy smells in the woods.
Mist low over the fields
Fires, inside and outdoors.
Clothes with layers for warmth, scarves, fingerless gloves, swap my sandals for boots, dig out the warm hats and socks.
Loads of books put by, real and on Kindle, for the lamplight nights, with drawn curtains, fire glowing and music playing.

It always feels like the beginning of the year for me, too, even though the DC are brown up and we don't have a new school year.

dudsville · 24/08/2024 12:44

Ahhh, what a lovely thread. Reading the posts here is evocative, I can see, hear and smell autumn. I used to say Autumn was my favouite season, but I'm old now and honestly appreciate each one for what it gives. All my clothes are comfortable and I have nice things for each season, so while I look forward to the changes in wardrobe, it's not a relief, but there is always that funny period during which socks and tights, and shoes and boots just don't look right! But I have some anazing cardigans and cant wait to get them out. I look forward to the longer nights. I like summer, but not our short nights. I like the salad days of summer, and whilst we could still have those in the colder months it doesn't feel as soothing. But I look forward to the lovely things I don't want to make in the warmer months, lasagnes, or anything that take slonger than 10 min with the hob or oven.

RosesAndHellebores · 24/08/2024 12:51

I like the change. The light, the crispness, the glorious russet, oranges, reds of the leaves - until they come down and need sweeping! Berries and nuts, apples and blackberries.

Roast pork with crackling and bramley apples sauces, followed by Eve's Pudding. Stews and braises replacing salads.

Then the days get shorter and shorter and I yearn for February and the first snowdrops and longer days.

Decaffeinatedplease · 24/08/2024 12:58

I feel like I'm living in a different universe to everyone else, I have to be honest.

Crunchy leaves would be great, but it rains all the time! LIke for months and months.

Clothes are better, I agree, get the boots and black tights out and I look like I've lost half a stone, so on that front, autumn is better.

Otherwise, less light, less heat, having to drink horrible sweet hot chocolate (I hate the stuff), blankets as it's so cold, I'm just missing the loving it all gene.

I don't mind up til Halloween, as that's a fun festival. After that it's downhill til March.

Decaffeinatedplease · 24/08/2024 12:58

In fact, February is ok as you can see signs of spring.

'Putting summer clothes away' is a thing I'm seeing often on these threads.

It's a thing I never do but my wardrobe is also increasingly cramped.

Where do people put them? Inquiring minds want to know!

I have one of those Ikea zipped fabric storage bags from the Skubb range. It folds into a sturdy rectangle and you can pack quite a lot in to one, or use vacuum packing bags for bulkier knits and put them inside. I then get my tall DS to help me launch it on top of my wardrobe, but if you have underbed space then even easier.

Whatineed · 24/08/2024 13:04

"Otherwise, less light, less heat, having to drink horrible sweet hot chocolate (I hate the stuff),"

How about a malty drink, like Horlicks or an Ovaltine?

I don't really drink hot chocolate either, my son has one in the mornings (I buy loads of the super thick ones from Italy and stash them away.) Love a Horlicks though!

Other than that I like adding cinnamon to my mocha coffee for my morning cappuccino on colder days. Cinnamon always seems like a cold weather spice to me. 😊

I'm not saying that we've spent a bit of time brambling but I wondered what the DDog was doing today and she was scoffing them straight from some brambles Grin

Awww, I'd have loved to see her purple chops 😀
