They can be anything :)

I am looking forward to picking a new coat

Very cute and cosy looking outfits for my 2 DC

Getting into a nice hot bath and feeling all cosy and warm compared to cold skin! At the moment, baths are just meh in the Summer

Putting a White Company oil in my diffuser that’s for colder months

Feeling a bit sad about the Summer ending :(

Autumn is my least favourite season (mostly because it’s wet and means winter is coming), but I do like that the drop in temperature outside means it’s warmer in work as windows stay closed/ air con stays off.

I have one of those Ikea zipped fabric storage bags from the Skubb range. It folds into a sturdy rectangle and you can pack quite a lot in to one, or use vacuum packing bags for bulkier knits and put them inside. I then get my tall DS to help me launch it on top of my wardrobe, but if you have underbed space then even easier.

Brilliant! Thanks for this. I need to get my clothes more organized.

invisiblecat · 24/08/2024 13:59

The smell you get when you open your front door and go outside in the morning.

Fizbosshoes · 24/08/2024 15:00

I'm hopeful for a bit more summer before I can start thinking about autumn!! 🙏

FartNRoses · 24/08/2024 19:00

I think the countryside and suburbs, probably have lovely, colourful leaves that crunch when you walk with the dog or pubs with fireplaces where you can have a lovely roast on a cold, Sunday afternoon.
In London, however, the reality is miserable. Dark, windy and wet.

TheScenicWay · 25/08/2024 03:24

The smell? The smell is usually damp and smells kind of mouldy outside. I wish we had drier autumns. The smells in drier countries of ferns and trees and woodland is amazing.
Autumn food like soup and home baking is lovely.
More reading.

Next summer...

All this talk about longing to walk/crunch through fallen autumn leaves, reminds me of about twenty five (maybe more) years ago.
I was walking home through my village, and it must've been September ish, as it's August now an leaves are still firmly attached to their branches..
Anyway, I was in my forties and I saw loads of red gold crunchy leaves laying quite thickly...
... I remembered reading comics as a child, where the characters would kick their way through the leaves.
So I thought I'd execute a long held urge to do the same and satisfy my inner kid.
I rushed at the huge extended pile of crunchiness, was "in the moment", then omg - shock horror 😱, the leaves had been acting as a home for THOUSANDS of daddy long legs.
They, as one huge dark cloud, flew up and around me, I gasped, and ran like a murderer was after me!
My heart was pumping from surprise and fright.
I don't generally mind creepy crawlers, but those winged dangly dodgers do spook me.
That experience has put paid to any further longing to disturb any dead leaves.
So if you don't like those critters... beware!

@LifeInTheRaw it was all so poetic...til it wasn't!

I feel like I'm living in a different universe to everyone else, I have to be honest.

Crunchy leaves would be great, but it rains all the time! LIke for months and months.

Clothes are better, I agree, get the boots and black tights out and I look like I've lost half a stone, so on that front, autumn is better.

Otherwise, less light, less heat, having to drink horrible sweet hot chocolate (I hate the stuff), blankets as it's so cold, I'm just missing the loving it all gene.

I don't mind up til Halloween, as that's a fun festival. After that it's downhill til March.

@Decaffeinatedplease im the same as you re:hot chocolate too sweet-bottom half is like syrup to me. So if we’re out, I have started asking for half/quarter of the chocolate powder when they make it, and it’s so much better!

The children going back to school 🥳

This....... although I thought the opposite when my own children were school age.

I only have it at home and make it with cocoa and a small amount of sugar. So much nicer.

Going on holiday as soon as the kids in France and Spain go back to school and not returning until nearly Xmas.

mondaytosunday · 25/08/2024 15:03

Crisp cool mornings and walking the dogs through a bit of frost as the sun comes up.
The changing foliage.
Nights drawing in.
Getting my gas coal fire on.
Snuggling down under my plushy duvet cover.
Thinking about Christmas.

StarryDance · 25/08/2024 15:04

When it's Autumn I look forward to next Spring.

TheGoddessMinerva · 25/08/2024 19:09

Autumn and winter used to be my favourite seasons; now I just appreciate each one for the joy and change that it brings. #GlassHalfFull

Hi… I honestly don’t know what you mean…
It sounds like you think my experience with daddy long legs and autumn leaves was purely in my imagination.
I shouldn’t really care what you think, but being an honest person, I can very much confirm that it (embarrassingly DID happen!), and why the heck would I f try to convince the readers on Mumsnet that I’m (sometimes) as daft as a brush…?
I simply felt that the PP’s who were expressing their joy over the thought of crunching through dried up leaves, would be surprised to learn that my experience of it, wasn’t as “romantic”, as I thought it would be … far from it 😱
yours truthfully 🙏🏻

FortunataTagnips · 26/08/2024 20:54

@LifeInTheRaw I don’t think @Decaffeinatedplease was suggesting you were making it up - just enjoying the contrast between the romantic start and distinctly unromantic conclusion.

Mumof1andacat · 26/08/2024 21:15

Cooler nights so I can sleep.

DrPeculiar · 26/08/2024 21:31

Thought of this thread when I remembered to put my bin out in my pyjamas just now. That doesn’t happen outside of autumn/winter.

merryandbrightdelight · 26/08/2024 21:34

My favourite time of year!

Pumpkin picking, dark nights, candles, being cosy inside when it's raining outside, cosy pjs for our DDs (3 and 5), tights, boots and jumpers, hot baths, gorgeous colours of the trees in the parks, autumn chill first in the morning air... always been my favourite season 🍂

Dd and I share a birthday in October and will be in Disneyland Paris for it this year just before Halloween 🎃

Thanks Forunata, I thought my op may have come across as too story like, and therefore a figment of my imagination.
if only it was, problem was, I wanted to scream with the fright, but at the time, was conscious of appearing to be a daft idiot.
I think that there’s a lot of scenes we watch on film and on t.v., that appear so adventurous thrilling and romantic, but in reality, are not as you’ve been led to imagine.
A good example is the scenario (in a film eg), when these been sine hit and steamy sex between two lovers that couldn’t wait to dtd… He lifts her slim naked body up onto the kitchen worktop…, well that’s always dodgy, coz surely the toast crumbs would uncomfortably stick in her bum?
also if I suggested that me and my man gave it a try, he’d have to build up his muscles somewhat in order to be able to heave me up there…
then the film goes on to show they are slightly out of breath, and are maybe enjoying a post coital cigarette , or chat.
what I want to know is why I never see - 1… a towel, or a box of tissues, or roll of kitchen paper.
Then she gets up kissing him a goodbye as she floats to the shower, and there’s no groans of “ugh, it’s running down my leg”!!!!
So it’d be interesting to hear what other scenes you watch that in real life is not played out the way it’s been dramatised.
I guess that’s why my leaves and daddy long legs experience wasn’t at all how I expected it to be 🤪
Hope I made someone smile though..

Me too. I like blue skies, the sun and the green leaves on the trees.
