Spent the afternoon at Science World then wandered around the farmer's market set up outside and bought some nice produce and a cookie for Havoc. Made pizza for dinner: pesto, chicken, orange bell pepper, asparagus, rocket and a mix of cheeses. For dessert I cut up oranges and strawberries, whipped cream with a bit of sugar put into in the orange shell (and into a bowl). Havoc loved it. I think it was a 70's and 80's thing?

We're making pizza for dinner here too, havoc, but ours is just bacon and pepperoni. What is the rocket ingredient in yours? Edited to add your desert looks fab! I've never seen that done in an orange half. At first I thought it was a pastry shell.

I opened the front door tonight to fill the bird feeder and spotted five wild turkeys in the front garden. I didn't have my phone with me, so by the time I went in and got it, and went back outside, they had moved off to our side yard and two had already gone over the stone wall. I did manage to get a picture of these three. Our land slopes down to a wetlands area in the back of the house.

Think ds is having an unusual dream or something!

His light was out , but I heard him called out to me ...

He always starts his sentences with ...ohh by the way ..

I went to his door and said ...ohh do you want me....

He replied...

"The child is up for adoption if you are interested "

Me :
" What the flip do I want another child for "

Him:
" Well , I thought you might be interested "

Me : " ok my love ..night night...speak in the morning ".

Him :
Silence !

His light had been out for about an hour or more , so I do think he was talking on his sleep ...but having a conversation with me !

Not had one of those conversations with a DC for ages !

Ds 1 was a sleepwalker and conversationalist when he was younger ...had lovely chats about pink elephants flying around at silly hours !

Cracking up at the thought of me looking after another child ever !

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/09/2024 04:01

Miss, rocket/arugula. 😀

Managed to finally get Halloween costumes for Havoc and baby today plus a few toys to replace one returned to Amazon today.

RIP Maggie Smith. 🩷

mathanxiety · 28/09/2024 05:24

I made enough penne and meatballs yesterday to feed the Danes. Then went to a wedding rehearsal dinner this evening and will be at the wedding tomorrow, so I'm depending on DD to tuck in.

Sorry to hear of all the flooding. Helena I hope you won't end up under water.

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 28/09/2024 13:15

Wow Miss imagine having them strolling around the garden! The most exciting we get is the usual garden birds, squirrels and the odd fox. Though we do get birds of prey circling (not sure which type, maybe hawks, buzzards?) and one swooped down in to the garden looking for his lunch one day.
bizzey my mum remembers when I was younger I was searching the blankets (still asleep) and told her I was looking for my feet (🤔), she asked if I’d found them and I apparently said yes and settled back down 🤷🏻‍♀️.
havoc your food always looks amazing
Penguinsa hope you’re recovering well 🤞🏻

My suspicions that DD would be ill were well founded and she has been off school. Still coughing and spluttering.
My meeting with the teacher went as expected, but I lost it quite early during the conversation and sobbed through the entire thing. She had to go and make me tea and find tissues. On the plus side it hopefully means we can start getting more support as a family.

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 28/09/2024 13:58

math never heard the expression “feed the Danes” before, here it’s enough to “feed the street”, I wonder where that comes from? Hope you enjoy the wedding

bizzey · 28/09/2024 15:36

Ohh Math ...who's wedding is it ..
(I am so nosey !!)

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/09/2024 16:13

Shoes, virtual hug to you. 🩷 I hope you'll get more support, too. Thanks for the nice words. I'll admit, I liked the fruit in the orange cup, too. So simple!!! I make various pesto pizzas a lot. I love them. 😋

Hadn't heard the "Danes" expression, either...I think my parents would've said, "neighbourhood."

Helena, has flooding improved? It's inly been a couple days, so likely not... stay safe.

Penguinsa, still ok?

i was asleep by 11pm. Awake at 1:30 for baby. Then awake until almost 5 with anxiety. Rec'd message from a friend in europe, so we exchanged a few. Fell back asleep and then up with dc at 7:30. Put a load of laundry on. I think I'll make a decaf and try for more sleep in a bit. Baby is 9 months today. 🥳

mathanxiety · 28/09/2024 17:09

My DF used to say of potholes "big enough to bury the Danes". I think he was referring to the days of the Danelaw. Anyway, the phrase morphed into a way to describe anything of generous proportions - a Christmas turkey, a dress impulsively bought in the sales, a neighbour's humongous camper van, a turnip from the garden, etc.

The wedding is today, and it's drizzling and windy here. The bride is a lifelong friend of one of my DDs, who is a bridesmaid, and I've known the MOB for many years as a result of our DDs' friendship.
The rehearsal dinner was very jolly. Google Maps did not let me down, so despite stopping for an insurance top up of my gas tank in case I ended up getting lost in the far flung suburbs, I got there on time after sprinting out of work and doing a very hasty job of dressing up and applying makeup. I also found my own way back home after correctly judging which direction was east.

Penguinsa · 28/09/2024 17:13

Thanks Havoc I am recovering fine, a bit tired but no pain, nerves all reconnected, good results, check up on Monday but very happy so far but been told to calm down activity levels by 2 doctors and a nurse so now am very bored. The weather is very rainy here so at least not missing anything outside. Hope your Mum is recovering well. My DH saw your food pics and said is that food you are looking at which was very observant for him. 🤣

Thanks Shoes So sorry you were sad at school and hope they are kind with you.

Enjoy the wedding Math Also don't use Danes expression here, more have enough to feed half the town or similar like neighbourhood /street.

Lovely turkey photo MissC

Hope medical things get sorted soon. I also got the vaccine email but arrived just after my operation so not the best timing and then one came for DS.

We have a date for the trees in early November now from tree surgeon. Watched Below Deck and Race Around the World I had missed in hospital. DD is punting today and has 2 college parents for Oxford, went to an Oxford Uni in our area party pre starting, packed 3 suitcases and starts 7 October and have a move in slot of that afternoon. Her stuff is now taking over the corridor upstairs so currently getting DH to help clear my things that are in car boot to make more space in there. Also getting her birthday present ready whilst she's away hopefully as that is in October as well and she will be away. She has her gown, mortar board black ribbon for matriculation and has to also wear a white blouse black skirt and black shoes. https://www.shepherdandwoodward.co.uk/products/under-graduate-gown

I have a lily of the valley candle, now finished, and ordered another and lily of the valley handcream to use whilst I am still in bandages and nice to have the nice smell.

Just catching up.
@Penguinsa glad op over successfully.
@Umanresources that's unfortunate. Do you have a history of hypertension? Hopefully it was a one off but if you have undiagnosed high blood pressure maybe it will respond to first line treatment, perhaps amlodipine or ramipril depending on your age. Fingers crossed you can get the endocosopy soon.
@Mumtobabyhavoc, lovely pics as usual, wish I had your creativity!
Sorry about floods @HelenaJustina
Well done to DS @MissConductUS what n achievement to have a choice of jobs.
@ShoesOnFirstThenCar so sorry about struggles with school, hopefully now you can get support.
Just returned from short trip to Italy to celebrate milestone birthday. Was amazing, such fantastic food, culture and the trains were so efficient and cheap, definitely compared to the debacle on return. 2 cancelled trains with no information. Only good thing was railair bus that was most efficiently driven on time by lady driver.
Also just had compensation approved for delayed luggage along with at least half the other passengers.
Been to watch DS's team get resoundingly beaten (as expected) but lads held heads high and I cooked food for 50 16-18 year olds.......

Umanresources · 28/09/2024 23:30

Thank you Sprouts I do sometimes have high blood pressure, but it’s never been that high. I was recording my blood pressure at home daily, for a week and it was steadily going down. I’ll have to check it again this week.

I ordered some food to be picked up on the day of my birthday next month. One of my grandsons is very excited because we are having sushi as well.

My daughter is off to Milan with one of her friends, tomorrow for a few days, they have booked a coach trip to Switzerland for a day. I’m quite envious!

Havoc and Penguin I hope you are both getting enough rest.

Enjoyed Strictly tonight. It’s now officially autumn, especially with Bake Off as well. Comfort viewing.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/09/2024 00:11

Miss, how was your dinner? I forget... do you have a pizza oven, or use your regular oven? I can't get over the wild turkeys in your area! Are they hunted or protected? The dessert was dead easy: just a grapefruit spoon to get the orange out.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/09/2024 06:49

Celebrated baby's 9 months today. Had cake at True Confections. Beautiful sky tonight as well.

Happy birthday Sprouts Italy is wonderful, glad you had a great time and thanks for the good wishes.

Nice cake Havoc

Sorry about your high blood pressure Uman

Put DDs birthday hamper together whilst she was out working yesterday punting on the river. Told her had put it in the car boot so she takes it down to Oxford with her. Then she asked what is it in? Your birthday present. But what is my birthday present. You will see on your birthday. Is it food. No Is it drink No. There's actually 4 posh hot chocs as part of it. It was like she was 5 again.

Been awake since 4am and beautiful sunset now. Have my first follow up on Monday at hospital and hoping they will take off all the bandages but we will see. DVT socks are off then at least. Currently have bandages all over my front and part of my back plus a binder, control shorts and surgery bra and heated thing. Originally had 4 drains and a catheter and a drip and cannulas which have all gone plus 7 days of hourly testing.

Probably have Sunday lunch today.

Ohdearyme72 · 29/09/2024 10:00

Taking dog, go for a run, plant 4 lavender plants I bought for ONE euro, plant another 3 plants I bought for six euro, clip the sunflowers, make blackberry crumble with home frown blackberries. Check the pear trees if I can pick the pears yet. Clean out cupboard, move work desk, do food shop. Collapse.

MissConductUS · 29/09/2024 16:30

Happy birthday, sprouts. It sounds like you had a fab time.

Penguinsa, I have to schedule a visit from our tree surgeon. He walks the property with us every fall and usually finds work that needs doing. I was a bit confused by the link to the gown you posted for your DD. American universities don't have formal ceremonies for students entering, but they do wear gowns like that for graduation. Good luck with your post-op appointment tomorrow. It sounds like everything is healing nicely.

Havoc, we don't have a pizza oven. We have a regular gas-fired convection oven that we set to 500 degrees F to make pizza. It comes out really nicely.

We couldn't cook out last night because it was raining, but fortunately had some nice leftovers from an Italian takeaway we had on Thursday. The weather looks better for cooking out. The men are going to make grilled teriyaki skirt steak with steamed corn on the cob and I'll make coleslaw.

We have desktop PC in the kitchen we use for various things and I noticed that the fan was running a lot. I mentioned it to DH, and he opened up the side panel on it, put it up on the kitchen counter and hoovered out the dust that had built up around the fan and where the air gets pulled into the case. It's now back to silent operation. It's handy to have an IT expert in the family.

Weather has changed after a dry day yesterday. It's now windy and rainy.

DS did amazing at swimming lesson. We have changed to a new pool and he is happy again.

His eczema has flared after nursery used shaving foam in messy play. 😬😳

Penguina hope the appointment goes well. The hamper sounds nice for your Dds birthday am thinking of hampers for Christmas.

Got some lovely crockery for mum for part of her birthday present.

Went for a lovely work yesterday.

Cake looks yummy Havoc

havoc, I see I've neglected to answer your question about the turkeys. There is no gun hunting allowed in the county I live it, but you can hunt with a bow and arrow, and you can't hunt at all in most locations. Most hunters don't bother. A bloke came to the door a few years ago and asked if he could hunt deer on our land with his bow and arrow. While we are overrun with deer, I told him no as I didn't want him shooting arrows that close to the house. So while turkeys are not protected, they have very little to worry about.

Lovely pictures, lemons. How common is it for kids to learn how to swim in your area? Ours had lessons too, but might not have except for the fact that we belonged to a gym with a pool that offered them.

It's damp here, but the drizzle has stopped, so I'm hopeful we'll be able to grill tonight. We haven't had teriyaki steak in ages.

OP posts:
Lemonsandlemonade · 29/09/2024 20:52

MissC in my area it's a real mixture with I would say 50% or so of children having lessons with certain social groups more likely to swim. All major towns in my area ( and throughout Uk) have a council run or non profit swimming pools that offer lessons.

Incidentally children in UK are supposed to be able to swim 25 by the age of 11. Schools must offer swimming. This is at a cost to the school but for some children this is their only experience of swimming.

My area is overrun with deer too in places and there is friction as many homes have gardens destroyed by deer.

Work tomorrow only three days with two days training.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/09/2024 21:17

Miss, not sure I'd allow hunting on my property either!
I've heard "our" geese are fair game down there, though. We're quite over run with them in places...so dirty, but they are gorgeous creatures and it's amazing how we'll all stop for them (and take pics) when they are on the road.
Lemons, it so nice to gear about you dc's swimming progress. 👍
Sprouts, glad you had such a nice birthday! Italy sounds like a great place to mark your special one. 🥳
@Ohdearyme72 I love lavender.

Made pancakes with fresh local strawberries for brunch.
Gorgeous day, but i'm not in a hurry to move. Forcing naps atm and plan to watch a CBC doc about people that volunteer for medical trials. I started watching it a few days ago, but am going to watch from the beginning. So far the gist seems to be how it started with using prisoners and now people cash-strapped seem to be the volunteers, so it's an ethical issue here and in the States.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/09/2024 03:33

Ok. It is cold. It's 12c, easily 3-5c colder in the shade. I was freezing out at the playground with dc. I have turned the heat on in the bedrooms!!! 🙀 And it is still only September! 😳

Just put dinner on: pesto salmon and prawns, roasted potatoes, green beans and asparagus and boiled corn on the cob. I am starving! I think i'll make brownies for dessert...😛😛😛

mathanxiety · 30/09/2024 05:45

Lovely photos of food and scenery.

I love lavender too, and lily of the valley, and all soaps and fragrances with those scents. I tend to kill lavender plants though.

The wedding was a blast. I've never been to a wedding in this neck of the woods where a rollicking good time wasn't had by all. You know it's going to be a fun evening when everyone including the grandparents of the bride and groom whips sneakers out of their bags and changes out of their fashionable footwear after dinner, and the band has a horn section.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/09/2024 06:57

Sounds great, Math!!!👍☺️
