Things to do with 17yo son

Any suggestions? It's such an in between age- too old for play activities but too young for other things. In the past we'd have done go ape type activities, science museums etc.
The two of us are both off for the next two weeks but really struggling with what to do with the weather being so changeable. We're in the north west if that helps.

That's a shame! You are missing a treat.. what about a game of rugby league?

Babbahabba · 22/08/2024 21:16

Is he ND? Most NT 17 year olds would be spending time with their friends.

Did a uk holiday with 3 teenage DS a couple of years ago, they thoroughly enjoyed “Weapons through the Ages”, quad biking, archery and clay pigeon shooting. I sat and watch their dad and them really enjoying themselves, being very competitive with each other.

We've already been away so it's day trips rather than anything overnight. We go kayaking and walking quite a bit anyway. It's just got very samey so lining for inspiration!
Will have smooch on Wowcher.
Saw this great place that was mini golf & pool combined but they needed to be 18 for it.

Just say he's 18. I doubt they will ID him.

What a daft comment.

Kneeslikethese · 22/08/2024 21:37

Gigs! still some mini festivals to be done. North West is the best for music! Wythenshaw park have the blossoms and a load of others playing this Sunday.
There's a good vr place hear manchester if you're that way on or arcade clubs.
Watch Stock car or speedway racing, Belle View in Manchesteror Sheffieldand Buxton.
Theatre tickets.
Gym membership? Some do them monthly so you don't have to sign up for the year.
Liverpool is ace, lots there, the caver, beatles story, music museum.
Manchester northern quarter for shopping, Afflex is ace.

Movingon2024 · 22/08/2024 21:38

Not daft at all.
describing a. 17 yo as at an in-between age makes him sound like a child that needs entertaining.

rather than a young man who is/should be hanging out with his mates & doing some stuff with mum on the side

NCTDN · 22/08/2024 21:43

@GoodVibesHere thank you! Nothing wrong with spending some time together when friends are on holiday

Theatre? I've done that with my older children and it's been enjoyable. Did clay pigeon shooting last year and whilst my adult son loved it, I did not!

I'm off work at the moment with 16 year old but no holiday booked and to be honest he doesn't want to do much with me, I think he'd rather just stay at home or do his own thing! We've met with mutual friends which was fun, but that's all.

Surely he’ll do his own thing?

Bit weird to be thinking of activities for a 17 year old

No problem. Like you my teens and I like spending some time together, I don't think it's odd!

NerrSnerr · 22/08/2024 21:47

llamajohn · 22/08/2024 20:11

Do you mean a 7 year old?

Because what is a 17 year old too young for?? Confused

Pub?

NerrSnerr · 22/08/2024 21:50

I'm not sure people would be questioning so much if someone was asking for things to do with their daughter.

It may shock some but some teenagers may want to spend time with their friends and their parents. It's nice that he wants to do things with his mum.

Manyshelves · 22/08/2024 21:51

My 16 year old would be mortified if I tried to make him do fun activities. Just chill

Neither would I have been arranging holiday activities for DD when she was 17.

these are pretty much adults

Peony15 · 22/08/2024 21:51

We'd do day road trips and pick some random local destination
based on stuff like
Secret viewpoint / scary road / wild swim
spot /
best icecream-pizza- name any food / niche shop / sight we've never seen before / unusal places ( google it ) etc .
Then set off using Waze but often turning in opposite direction and see places along the way.
Always a laugh

Edited

There is no evidence she's making him do anything. If he wants to do things with his mum what's the problem?

Manyshelves · 22/08/2024 21:55

If he wants to do things, I’m sure he’d say. This is honestly reading like for a really young child

NerrSnerr · 22/08/2024 21:47

Pub?

Can drink beer, wine and cider in a pub at 17 with an adult.

To be fair most of them can (not should) drink in a pub without an adult.

NeuroKorma · 22/08/2024 22:02

Is there a Sixes near you? Fun even if not a massive cricket fan.

So?

Loads of 17 yo are quite happy to spend time with their parents too.

Notaflippinclue · 22/08/2024 22:40

Maybe He should be out with his mates

llamajohn · 22/08/2024 22:41

NerrSnerr · 22/08/2024 21:47

Pub?

Nope. He could easily go to the pub with his mother
