I usually get him M&S but last few times they haven't lasted that well.

I took him to sports direct as they have a variety of styles. Dd and ds had their last pairs from there, ds grew out of his but were still in good condition and dds lasted 2 years (she is much more careful with her belongings and growth seems to have slowed).

I bought mine a pair from Next, they lasted well last year.

Black air force 1s. DC very hard on shoes, even the Sketchers work wear didn’t last. But the AF1s do

DS is also having black air forces this year as school have changed their rules on shoes this year. Last year he had and DD had Kickers, they lasted really well.

FussyPud · 25/08/2024 11:25

Doc Marten monos. School doesn’t allow trainers and they have to be of a material that can be polished, or look polished if they’re not actual leather.

DiscoBeat · 25/08/2024 11:26

My two chose these this year. They say they're very comfortable (both wore them to a wedding in the summer). DS16 also got them in brown as he's going into 6th form and it will give him a bit of variety.

NB they're on sale now at Freeman Hardy Willis (£40 off).

Thryty · 25/08/2024 11:28

I think he would get his head flushed for wearing those!

I wish they would do this, trainers seem to last so much better.

Clarks boring black. Not sure what they’re called but they do the same style in child and adult ranges (he has big feet). They’re not at all trendy but they’re light (in weight) and he had the same ones last year and was happy to get them again.

These. He had them last year too, quite hard wearing and on offer.

Ineedaholidayagain · 25/08/2024 11:48

Dreichman shoes, they met his need to be round and flat (!?!) And mine to be proper school shoes so school would allow them. Apparently he won't be mocked for them. Also if you have multiple kids or want shoes yourself it's buy one pair, get another half price on a range of styles and sizes.

GigiAnnna · 25/08/2024 11:54

Either Kickers or I go to Sports Direct. Last year he had a Reebok pair. Not the trendiest brand anymore for teenagers but you couldn't tell they were Reebok, just a good quality plain black shoe ( not trainers).

FairisleFairy · 25/08/2024 12:03

Trying some from Next this year, they seem to have a good range of styles. Would have preferred Geox but I figure it’s not worth the expenses for something I think he will quickly outgrow.
Last pair were from Deichman and they were rubbish. They looked worn and tatty very quickly.

it’s a shame Treads no longer seem to be in business.

twilightcafe · 25/08/2024 12:24

Doc Martens.
He'll need to break them in but after that, they're indestructible and will fit like a glove.

queenofthewild · 25/08/2024 12:38

Doc Martins.

The only bloody shoe that meets the exacting uniform requirements and fits on his awkward feet!

I despair of the no trainer rule. School claims it keeps uniform affordable. DMs are extortionate.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 25/08/2024 13:02

Whatever fits a very, very narrow size 15.

These are the ones he had last year, he was fine with them and they lasted all year (including playing football at lunch).

We would not be allowed them

My son has lace up black shoes from Asda. Cheap and last the year even with football at break time,

Mens Howard Cap Black Leather Derby Shoes | Clarks UK The uniform rules for footwear are rather stringent, these fit the bill and are comfortable for my kid and neither of us can be bothered with traipsing around multiple shops to buy shoes in the middle of the holidays.

My ds would only wear kickers and told me thats what all the other boys wore too. To be fair, they lasted a year and are still in good nick.
