What do you add? Little things to make autumn and winter more tolerable or enjoyable (especially if you are a SAD sufferer like me!)

So far I have -
Vitamin D supplements
Nice herbal teas (spiced apple)
Echinachia drops
Nice hand cream

I already have a Lumea alarm clock and heated blanket!

A couple of good newly released books (new Kate Atkinson one)
milk frother for coffee/hit chocolate
soft thick socks

Theremedy · 20/08/2024 14:46

Oh yes socks!

3 or 4 books that I really want to read and 3 or 4 bars of chocolate to go with them, but nice chocolate wrapped in foil not plastic. Possibly a really nice version of a childhood favourite too like a nice illustrated version of Wind in the Willows for some nostalgia.

A wool pack from wool warehouse and the crochet pattern or other appropriate craft either oneI could already do or something new, you can get modern style cross stitches etc.

WonderingWanda · 20/08/2024 14:49

Some nice scented candles...not anything called pumpkin spice though 🤢 Some nice fluffy socks and a new book. Hat / gloves / scarf. I always want soups in the autumn so maybe a soup recipe book? I have the Covent Garden one. A nice autumnal shade nail varnish. Won't fit in your basket but I've just ordered a berry red coat.

Theremedy · 20/08/2024 14:52

I wish I was crafty because crochet and knitting seem like the perfect cosy crafts. I always end up frustrated with a tangled amount of wool!

must add lip balm, preferably a red stained one if I can find one!

A cashmere cardigan and a silk scarf.

pizzaHeart · 20/08/2024 14:56

Porridge oats and cinnamon plus finishing most of the ice cream to make space in the freezer for more warming up dishes.

Thane · 20/08/2024 14:58

I can recommend Burts Bees tinted lip balm. I like the rose one, it’s a nice reddish pink.

Barkingupthewrongtrees · 20/08/2024 14:58

Like no other year before I am really looking forward to Autumn!

I think it's because the 'summer' has been so long in coming and not been a great one, my expectations of nice weather have been dashed over and over again.

At least with Autumn, nice days are just a fab bonus!

Lovely suggestions up above!

invisiblecat · 20/08/2024 15:05

Really nice, good quality strawberry jam.

Singleandproud · 20/08/2024 15:09

Have you ever tried making spiced apple at home? After having it in costa and then being discontinued I resorted to making it myself.

I'm sure it's not 'proper' but carton of apple juice and a load of cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise and sugar and heat it low for awhile. I then pour it into a Robinson's bottle and store it in the fridge and do 1/4 cordial to hot water and its so warming and cosy.

CoralClouds · 20/08/2024 15:16

Some autumn-themed scented wax melts, Tarot cards and cosy bath products (bath salts, bombs, bubble bath and the like!) Smile

TheGodOfSmallPotatoes · 20/08/2024 15:19

I struggle finding a nice tinted red lip balm (not a fan of burts bees) it’s not a shade that is ubiquitous at all 😭

Theremedy · 20/08/2024 16:31

I’ve heard the Clinique black honey almost lipstick is lovely, a bit spendy though

OP posts:
TheGodOfSmallPotatoes · 20/08/2024 16:46

I have that! It’s definitely not red tinted on me 😭

lollyPaloozah · 20/08/2024 16:55

Candle,
soft blanket,
fluffy socks/slippers,
an oodie (or a fake knock off one!),
hot chocolate,
subscription to a tv streaming service (Netflix/disney/amazon prime etc),
nice bubble bath (doesn’t have to be expensive but nice smelling),
A nice mug or thermos,
new cosy pj’s (flannel long ones maybe?)
new warm bedding (soft brushed cotton)
posh biscuits,
slow cooker if you haven’t already got one (I always love a warm slow cooker stew etc in the colder months to make me feel cosy)
Some easy batch cooked meals already in the freezer (or buy pre-made lasagne etc to shove in the freezer)

LaSourciereEfrontee · 20/08/2024 17:05

Cashmere socks
Books
A Diptyque Feu de Bois candles
A tonne of logs
Tickets to a play
Venison

gardenmusic · 20/08/2024 17:19

I love Autumn.
Anything in Oakmoss from the White Company.
I want a plum shade jumper or blouse (Cannot wear normal autumnal shades)
Waterproof suede or leather boots - not clompy.

MissMarplesGoddaughter · 20/08/2024 17:23

A preview of autumn TV listings so you don't miss anything
A nice notebook to write down your autumn and winter plans

AyrshireTryer · 20/08/2024 17:32

marmalade, fudge, nice notebook and pen, hot chocolate, cheese, chutney, cashmere socks, nice chocolate, book token,

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 20/08/2024 17:33

Heinz tomato soup
Merino wool socks
Lots of gloves

Birthday cake (3 out of 4 of our household birthdays are in Sept/Oct/Nov).

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 20/08/2024 17:34

Ear muff/warmers. I can cope with the rest of me being cold, but if my ears are cold I am miserable.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 20/08/2024 17:43

Jar of nutmeg and a mini grater, maybe some cinnamon. Proper bitter marmalade.

Dark nail polish and a base/top coat to prevent staining.

Packets of spring bulbs, peat free compost and a pot to plant them in. Sweetpea seeds. Maybe a red amaryllis kit for winter. Ball of twine.

And, of course, a Brambly Hedge notebook and pencils.

gardenmusic · 20/08/2024 17:50

Conkers.
Wish I could find a way to keep them lovely and glossy.
Stack of house-ey magazines.

WildWildWestCoast · 20/08/2024 20:31

A pair of lambswool bed socks from Pairs.
A wool blanket for my bed.
A new pair of sheepskin boot slippers.
A long wool cardigan for when I work from home.
A new pair of waterproof walking trainers because I've killed my last pair.
