What do you add? Little things to make autumn and winter more tolerable or enjoyable (especially if you are a SAD sufferer like me!)

So far I have -
Vitamin D supplements
Nice herbal teas (spiced apple)
Echinachia drops
Nice hand cream

I already have a Lumea alarm clock and heated blanket!

This is lovely. So made good ideas.

Mine are new PJs, cosy blankets and bedding, new books, cosy fluffy socks and some autumn candles.

Conkers.
Wish I could find a way to keep them lovely and glossy.
Stack of house-ey magazines.

Beeswax Polish.

That way, they also smell of honey.

Autumn wreath for the door
Candles
Throws in autumnal colours

Mine aren’t really basket items but for me I want to be outside whenever the weather’s good in autumn, not wrapped in blankets with candles inside pretending it’s dark winter already. So;
A nice autumn jacket and a coat for when it gets colder that make me feel good.
Flowers in the garden that keep going until October/November (bit late to sort now but maybe some on sale in the garden centre?
Buying and planting bulbs for spring.
Oh and I’m looking forward to nice apples. Cox apples are one of the pleasures of autumn.

LemonTurdCart · 20/08/2024 22:31

Custard to go with a crumble.
Can’t put it in a basket, but airing winter coats, duvets and blankets outdoors whilst the weather allows.

MissyB1 · 20/08/2024 22:31

Oh and books. Lots of books which I'll fantasise about reading by candlelight but in reality I'm too old.

Singleandproud · 20/08/2024 22:36

I'm loving these lists but I think some people have got an Autumn trunk rather than a hamper 😆 looking forward to crisp nights and fallen leaves though.

More like an autumn house 🤣. I love it. My favourite season. Late august is always exciting for me.

AdaColeman · 20/08/2024 22:48

Crumpets and salty French butter.

A bottle of Madeira with Gorgonzola and some walnuts.

Caramelised pecans and black truffle crisps.

Home made beetroot soup.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 20/08/2024 22:51

My first thought is a plane ticket to somewhere sunny - but that's maybe not in the spirit of the thread !

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 20/08/2024 22:55

Something to get rid of the spiders that start appearing in my house in September maybe!

Got my first one here 2nd August - generally get one a day until way into October - massive Cardinal bastard yesterday - petrifying 👀 🙁

HighlandCowbag · 21/08/2024 07:00

A really nice woolly hat
Nice riding gloves
New sticky bum jodhpurs for the inevitable autumn spookiness of pony
And a nice waterproof but lightweight riding jacket

I love autumn so much, it's my favourite time of the year. D.pony also loves autumn. She's like me and runs on the warm side so as soon as the temperature drops away she is much more bouncy and fun to ride.

For at home I want a big pile of my reading list (uni) books, a nice candle and some M and S Vienesse biscuits, the cream ones. And new PJs, a vat of hm veg soup and some crunchy, mature cheddar.

HollyBollyBooBoo · 21/08/2024 07:01

There's a lovely Sally Hansen nail varnish called Cinna Crisp which to me is the perfect autumn shade.

Love this thread!

reallyworriedjobhunter · 21/08/2024 08:10

Mine are about housekeeping as I have more than enough stuff.

Baking, a good clear out at home, swapping over to thicker duvets, getting the garden organised for winter.

gardenmusic · 21/08/2024 08:26

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea

Fresh conkers Placed where ever they congregate. Lokks a bit odd, but works.
Conkers will be out soon.

GalacticalFarce · 21/08/2024 08:35

I'm with you op. Things to make the colder months more tolerable.

I do like a good forest/woodland type of scented candle to remind me of the outdoors.
Some baking for comfort
Books
And making plans for going out. I book day trips, walks, meeting up with friends to do something interesting.

The other thing I do is a declutter and a big clean. If we're going to spend more time indoors, might as well make it nice.

deplorabelle · 21/08/2024 08:52

House plants. An overlooked element of SAD is the lack of things growing, green leaves and botanical smells. (Must be a living, growing plant)
