Lost stuffed dog on flight - help!

LaMadrilena · 20/08/2024 07:53

My 3yo seems to have left her stuffed dog on our Ryanair flight MAD-LPL on Sunday morning. We're devastated. Any advice on what we can do to try to track her down?

LPL have confirmed they don't have her. I've posted on a lost and found site called white boomerang.com.

Does anyone know of any other sites to use? Could I find out where our plane went after LPL so I can check lost property there?

I can't believe how sad I am about her! I'm kicking myself for not checking more carefully under seats etc but getting off was a bit of a rush.

I'd appreciate any help or advice.

You might be better off trying to find a replacement. Do you knownwhat brand it is?

Thryty · 20/08/2024 07:56

Have you tried the Ryanair desk directly rather than the airport in general?

Looks like a jellycat wire fox terrier Hector

Headawobble · 20/08/2024 07:59

Found what I think is a replacement on eBay. The jelly cat pattern didn't look right on the back but this one looks closer. Good luck finding it!

How old is the child?

I'd say that he's been on a trip with the pilot of the plane who looked after him and gave him a bath.
I'd go to build a bear and buy a little passport and hat and put him on the front door step, knock and run for little one to answer.

If they say he looks different it's because he went to XYZ with the pilot and has been playing in the sea

If you're any good at photoshop (and OTT Like me) do some photos.

This is what your plane flew after landing in Liverpool. Quite a few airports to contact sadly, if you go with that option - most likely one is Madrid but after so many stops, it’s not a guarantee at all…

18 Aug
Madrid - Liverpool - Madrid
Madrid - Palma de Mallorca - Madrid
Madrid - Marrakesh - Madrid
Madrid - Ibiza - Madrid

19 Aug
Madrid - Mahón (Menorca) - Madrid
Madrid - Tetuán - Madrid
Madrid - Rabat - Madrid
Madrid - Luxembourg - Madrid

20 Aug
Currently on its way to Budapest
Further planned flight is Fuerteventura

I would personally try to see if you can buy a replacement… or would that not work for her? 😥

LaMadrilena · 20/08/2024 08:14

Thanks everyone.

No idea on the brand as she came pre-loved from DD's cousins.

The Hector was the closest I could find (I spent Sunday night googling), but he's not quite the same.

I may have to take PP's advice and get a new one with a backstory. But ours was just so lovely to play with and you could make her do really life-like doggy expressions and postures. I think I'm even sadder than DD at the moment!

Wow, thank you so much for finding this. I knew there were some MNers who can use flight trackers etc.

Madrid is definitely worth a shout, and easy enough as we live there and are just visiting UK.

I am very OTT with this kind of thing so this may well be what happens!

That looks closer to ours than the Jellycat, thank you so much! I would pay double this to get her back!

I know you say you've spoken to Liverpool Airport already but their social media team are really good, it may be worth reaching out to them on the off chance they could share in case another passenger picked him up?

Hoping you find him!

So sad then lose a beloved toy

Try and sew your telephone number onto cuddly so if gets lost again someone can call you

HurdyGurdy19 · 20/08/2024 09:31

Post on Lostbox on Facebook. They have had some good success stories

Madrid were pretty awful in my experience 🫣

DH left his very sentimental camera hanging on the chair at the gate. He remembered as soon as we got on, but BA said they couldn't let him back off. Madrid said they hadn't found it, and we never heard from them again... He told them minutes later. It had so many sentimental photos on it, too. I was furious at him for leaving it, and not just putting it in my bag if he wasn't going to wear it.

I hope you have better luck! If you find an SLR at lost property, I'd pay a finders fee 😆

hashimotosucks · 20/08/2024 10:00

Won't fix current problem but read Knuffle Bunny books by Mo Willems. The third one is about just this kind of thing

deviantfeline · 20/08/2024 10:06

Do you definitely know it was left on the plane? Airline cleaning teams are usually pretty thorough (certainly when it's something like a toy v a sweet wrapper) so very surprised it didn't appear in lost property. Just wondering if it's been dropped somewhere else like a car park or taxi.

Otherwise sadly the cleaning team may have binned it if it takes them a load of time to declare something to lost property. I just can't imagine a situation where something quite substantial isn't found in the cabin turn around.

Kizzy192 · 20/08/2024 11:27

We did similar!! Bought a new one, and a toy hat and a suitcase, sunglasses etc (build a bear might be worth a check?) We then put a little note round its neck that said he'd been dropped off by the pilot and had a great holiday. We put him on the porch, rung the doorbell and let toddler find him. It worked wonders and he never questioned that the dog was exceptionally clean compared to usual ! 😆 a little bit of effort, but he still mentions it.

I did this for a MNers child once as I happened to have the toy they were looking for. I took a photo of him having a bath, playing in the garden and sitting in the car "on his way to the post office" etc. Great fun!

I thought this was going to be about a taxidermied dog left on a flight.

helpfulperson · 20/08/2024 11:43

Have you spoken to Ryanair? If it's been handed to an airport they should have a record.

Ryanair just direct you to the ground handling company for items lost on board. I did contact JLA lost property as well in case she had been lost once off the plane, but I'm pretty certain we must have left her under the seat.

I can't imagine where else it would have been. I got her out on the flight, but DD wasn't that interested in playing with her at that point so I stuffed her back in the rucksack (o so I thought). Bags were under the seats in front. I looked back over the seats as we left but didn't bend down to look underneath which I'm really kicking myself about now.
