Does anyone have an issue hearing their iPhone ringing?

I’m so embarrassed the hospital keep ringing my elderly mum when they are trying to reach me. I don’t know what happens but I see the missed calls after the fact. Same with voicemails. I have the volume up to the highest and vibrate is on. It’s a new phone. I can’t think what else so can do. Does anyone else not hear their phone ringing?

Me. I have no doubt it’s something I’m doing wrong but as far as I can see I have everything turned up/ switched on. The only way I ever know is if I see the screen light up. I can hear other peoples phones.

I guess I need to ask my daughters but I just don’t like to

MeAgainAndAgain · 19/08/2024 17:41

Me! Mine doesn’t even light up. There is no indication that anyone has phoned, unless I look in the call log and see a missed call. It didn’t used to be like this so I imagine I’ve done something to it.

We couldnt have all done something wrong though.

Yes I find this. I got an Apple Watch and never miss a call now.

moppety · 19/08/2024 17:49

Have you called it from another phone to see if it's making sound etc?

moppety · 19/08/2024 17:50

I just ask as my iPhone is very loud when it rings, it gives me a fright! As I don't usually have it off silent.

If you go into the sounds and haptics menu, and into ringtone, it will demonstrate what it should sound like when it rings unless you've activated one of the focus modes accidentally maybe like DND.

MoominMumu · 19/08/2024 17:56

You might have it on Do Not Disturb mode. That would make the calls automatically go to voicemail without ringing. Check your settings under do not disturb.

lazymum99 · 19/08/2024 17:56

If there is a picture of a moon on the front screen then you have activated do not disturb. If so, swipe down the screen and click on focus to turn it off

TeachesOfPeaches · 19/08/2024 17:57

Mine did the same and my mum fixed it by checking ringtone and alerts under settings and now it works. Also a new phone

Power the phone right down and turn it on again.

Check you havent accidentally set up 'do not disturb'

Check you havent accidentally turned on 'silent' (the button on the left hand side of the phone IPhone 15 might be different for other phones)

Turn on vibrate for phone calls. It's - settings - phone - notifications- sounds - haptics - then choose a vibration

It's a known thing on iPhone. You haven't done anything wrong it's the phone.

Aposterhasnoname · 19/08/2024 18:10

You’ll have one of the focus modes switched on, go into settings then focus and switch everything in there off

binkythepoodle · 19/08/2024 18:30

Is it set up to reject calls from unknown numbers? A colleague kept missing calls from her GP because of this.

Where can I check this?

Where can I check this?

Settings > phone > silence unknown callers

make sure it’s off.

I’m glad to hear this because I have a new work iPhone and am having the same issue. My colleagues think I’m ignoring them!

ToBeDetermined · 19/08/2024 19:34

Yes, you either have do not disturb, or sleep mode on.

OR you have this silent mode toggle on the side switched…see photo..the red means it’s on silent. Push it other way and it should ring.

IT WAS ON! I must have done it ages ago and then forgotten!

Holy moly mine is red 🤷‍♀️. I have never even noticed this button before.

ToBeDetermined · 19/08/2024 19:38

@MeAgainAndAgain
Glad to hear it is getting sorted.
Maybe have someone ring you to test if you got all the settings switched over to ring?

What is a “known thing”? iPhones ring when they are set to ring. They don’t have faulty ringers.

EachandEveryone · 19/08/2024 19:41

When I’m in the house it rings it’s when I’m out and about I just don’t hear it and it vibrates very softly

OP posts:
Yougetmoreofwhatyoufocuson · 19/08/2024 19:41

Mine does that, even when it’s right beside me it will randomly not ring or vibrate just go straight to voicemail. I’ve checked all the very helpful things people have posted and it makes me so relieved that other people’s iPhones don’t always ring. I always assume it’s my lack of tech skills to make the damm thing ring. Quite a basic request really.

ForgettingMeNot · 19/08/2024 19:45

I've noticed this with my iPhone last two weeks too.

Yes for me it was the silent mode toggle on the side above the volume adjust buttons. It's quite difficult to see if its showing red. Test various suggestions from another phone
