And the weird thing is no one in real life had seemingly experienced this. Other than a 85 year old great aunt, she was the only woman I discussed it with who had actually experienced any pregnancy bleeding.

GraySweatpants · 19/08/2024 22:00

Best of luck OP!

I still remember the anxiety and panic when I bled at 9 weeks. It was about 3 fingers big and bright red blood that came out of no where. Rushed to A&E and was seen within an hour by (luckily) a gynaecologist. By then the bleeding had stopped and there was no pain so she booked me in for a Monday scan. It was midnight Saturday then and I couldn’t stop crying all day Sunday fearing the worst!

Monday scan came and everything was absolutely fine! They didn’t know what caused it - we didn’t have sex the day before/carried anything heavy. She’s now a one year old sleeping peacefully next to me.

Wishing you all the best x

SummerHoHoHoNy · 19/08/2024 22:01

No experience (although plenty of other panics and worries that have now become ten year old twins) but just wanted to send a hug and all the best wishes for you. I’m sure you and your baby are going to be fine. I also think you’re right to not go to A&E. I had to take my mum recently because she’d fractured her spine. 12 hours in a wheelchair then sent home unable to walk. They literally are for life and death now (not having a go at any of the heroes that work there - just that’s all they have capacity for). Sending so many positive thoughts xx

@YourBusyTurtle i had bleeding at around 15 weeks and it turned out to be cervical polyps, they did an internal exam and could see. Then just had to take it easy the rest of pregnancy no exercise just walks no heavy lifting no sex etc and go back with any other bleeds which happened twice. Everything crossed for you!! I came under southmead hospital and they were amazing if you want to be referred there, I went to EPU in gynae on a Saturday when it wasn’t officially open and a dr did a scan there and then for reassurance for me after they found the polyps. They were amazing the entire pregnancy birth and after care.

Theroller · 19/08/2024 22:05

I bled at 14 weeks too OP, like you I found the EPAU very unhelpful (I’m in Yorkshire), they said as I’d had a dating scan two weeks prior nothing could be wrong 🙄 I never found out what caused it exactly but I bled a lot in early labour after a sweep, the consultant who looked said my cervix was very vascular. My baby is/was fine though. I know this is a bit tmi but have you had sex or been to the toilet before it started? That was the explanation given to me.

butterbeansauce · 19/08/2024 22:08

I also had bright red bleeding at around 16 weeks. I went to A&E and strong heartbeat and no cramping etc. It turned out to be an irritated cervix, I think they called it, anyway the cervix was bleeding for some reason. The rest of the pregnancy went fine and he's just bought his first flat!

Hope it all turns out well for you OP. It's such a horrible feeling to suddenly notice bleeding and not know what is causing it.

Answeringaquestiontonight · 19/08/2024 22:10

I had a very dramatic episode of bleeding when I was at a similar stage. Kept in hospital overnight and it calmed down. Baby is nearly ten. It was a hematoma. I think not having cramps is a good sign.

Isitreallythough · 19/08/2024 22:11

I had some bleeding, after first scan I think… it was nothing sinister, but it certainly alarmed me because I didn’t realise there were various possible causes. I got a private scan which was very reassuring - it would have been a long wait. Best of luck!!

alrightluv · 19/08/2024 22:13

I hope it'll all be OK 🙏🤞
I know how scary it is.

Also had heavy bleeding at christmas 7-8 weeks. Turned out to be a subchorionic haematoma, which caused no further issues during my pregnancy (they are little.
discussed, and not uncommon - see https://www.chelwest.nhs.uk/your-visit/patient-leaflets/womens-services/subchorionic-haematoma)

DD now nearly 5 and healthy as anything. As others have said, I thought I had miscarried. I ended up in A and E due to the amount of blood lost, and they said that the numbers didn't make sense for a miscarriage and referred me to an early EPU appointment the next day (which showed lovely healthy ball of cells). I was ultra anxious as it followed an MMC discovered at the 12 week scan a few months before.

Subchorionic Haematoma

This is a patient information leaflet for Subchorionic Haematomas.

I bled and had stomach cramps with my second pregnancy, ended up calling 111 as my husband was at work and I was getting really worked up. Initially they were going to call an ambulance based on my symptoms, this then turned into a phone call a few hours later. The Dr diagnosed a miscarriage over the phone. I actually just ended up calming down at this point, knowing there was nothing I could do and just went to sleep for the afternoon.
I had to go to work the next day as they were being funny about time off (and I hadn't told them I was pregnant, so didn't want to mention it then even though they would have then given me time off). By the time I had a private scan a few days later it turned out everything was fine, baby is now coming up to a year old.
Fingers crossed all is well for you too, sounds like a lot of people experience similar. I don't think I had actually bled as much as I initially thought though, as it was in the toilet and obviously mixed with water looked worse. When I woke the bleeding had stopped, but because of what the Dr said I didn't want to get my hopes up again. I think like you I also thought the cramps were worse than they were because I had assumed the worse by then. Good luck with your scan xx

I had bright red bleeding, a gush of blood, I could not conceptualise it was anything else but a miscarriage. I was 10 weeks. It ended up being a subchorionic hematoma (and I am now absolutely fine at 25 weeks). I went for a scan the next morning and they did not spot the heamatoma, they said it must just be the placenta rubbing against the cervix as I was being very active. I continued bleeding for a week and they only spotted the “large” hematoma on the scan a week later. I was put on bed rest for 6 weeks and it resorbed itself. Sending you much love and I hope you are ok xx

I also bled with my second child, heavy, bright red...enough to terrify me. I was scanned at 12 weeks and told I had a haematoma near the pregnancy sac and that it would either reabsorb itself or to expect more bleeding...sure enough I had another gush at 16 weeks ! Perfectly healthy baby who is now snoozing next to me :-) best of luck xx

Laura7899 · 19/08/2024 22:27

I had brown spotting which progressed to bright red blood at about 9/10 weeks pregnant and everything was absolutely fine, went to the early pregnancy unit and they couldn’t find a reason for the bleed they said it sometimes happens, sending you hugs xx

Luck12 · 19/08/2024 22:36

No personal experience but a Dfriend had this and turned out to be all fine. Hope all goes well at the scan sending best wishes x

OP please go to A and E. Every pregnancy is different and you are listening to all the positive stories here and not to your own body. Short term anxiety in a&e - check the wait time online. I hope all is OK.

A&E will not do anything. It’s not the place to go with these symptoms.

Pieceofpurplesky · 19/08/2024 22:40

When I went they gave me an ultrasound.

Pieceofpurplesky · 19/08/2024 22:40

When I went they gave me an ultrasound.

They do not do that at A&E, haven’t done for years. And she’s already been advised the EPU is closed. This is not an appropriate use of A£E.

Luck12 · 19/08/2024 22:42

My local hospital birth centre has a 24 hr midwife advice line for any concerns at any point of the pregnancy. Could you check if yours does?x

mathanxiety · 19/08/2024 22:44

YourBusyTurtle · 19/08/2024 20:24

I would definitely say it’s a gush of blood like a fast running tap! Slows down a bit then when I stand up it does it again x

Sorry, but I think you need to go to A&E.

She doesn’t. She has been given medical advice. What she’s described is pooling. It’s not an emergency v
