The lengths I go to for blackberries

Nettle stings, bramble scratches and sunburn. Ow. I don't even really eat them myself although blackberry vodka at Christmas is nice. I'm convinced there is some weird evolutionary thing where I see them hanging there and have to get them.

Why do I do this to myself?

When you find yourself always armed with an empty ice cream tub, you know you've got a problem.

Oh yes. Then other (less obsessed) people say knowingly, "blackberrying?".

I send my sons out. They like my blackberry jam!

LizzieSiddal · 19/08/2024 12:54

My dh is like this, he carries a little bag about at the moment so he’s always prepared. He’s introduced our 3 year old granddaughter into it and now she’s obsessed.

I make apple and blackberry crumbles and we put on yogurt plus we put any extra straight into the freezer for later.

My DSs are far more keen to take the dog for a walk at this time of year. They come back with purple tongues and a (clean) poo bag full of berries

Tmpnmc86 · 19/08/2024 14:32

My breakfast at the moment consists of blackberries and nettle seeds picked and eaten as I walk.

Gorgonemilezola · 19/08/2024 14:35

The tub's in the back of the car just in case.

jennylamb1 · 19/08/2024 14:42

Obsessed with blackberries. Free food, what's not to love. We make blackberry and apple pie with apples from the garden. So technically organic and no food miles, win win on all fronts.

EatCrow · 19/08/2024 14:45

Hah! They never taste as good as when you eat them there and then either (imo).

LaBelleSauvage123 · 19/08/2024 14:45

Just made an apple and blackberry cake and an apple and blackberry crumble. Later in the week I'm planning to make no churn blackberry ice cream. We have so many this year just metres from our house.

spikeandbuffy24 · 19/08/2024 14:48

Miss having a horse for that purpose. Much easier to reach the higher ones! We would come back with matching purple lips Grin

PinkyGold · 19/08/2024 14:49

I've picked pounds of them this year from our garden plus we've our own apple trees so lots of lovely desserts to come!
Freezer is full to bursting. 😁

BigDahliaFan · 19/08/2024 14:49

Clean poo bagful is often the way we go too...

Blackberry and apple crumble...

jennylamb1 · 19/08/2024 14:50

They are also packed full of flavonoids which are really good for you.

@Tmpnmc86 nettle seeds??

TenarAtuan · 19/08/2024 14:51

Passed some tourists along the canal yesterday, munching their way through a blackberry bush. All the way to the pavement! Yikes. They must not have got the blackberrying memo.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 19/08/2024 14:54

I'm exactly like this.

Vitriolinsanity · 19/08/2024 14:54

I found an untapped source only last week. They're massive! I've been back three times with ever increasing large tubs!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 19/08/2024 14:54

Blackberries are brambles aren’t they
If so I have some in my garden but I don’t like them and the stem are vicious

SquashPenguin · 19/08/2024 15:00

We went out at the weekend bright and early to the park opposite our house armed with loads of empty Tupperware 😆 My partner even went back home and came back wearing his tougher trousers and boots to get through the stingers to the extra juicy ones. The dog likes getting involved as well! Made some ice lollies this morning, rest in the freezer for a rainy day. It's so addictive 😆

Firenzeflower · 19/08/2024 15:03

Where I live we have an unmade road which has since I was a child dense blackberry bushes down both sides. Always packed with berries.
One of the house on the side of road just hacked them all down and have put in fuck**g marigolds and crap. They said it was impacting their wall. This was just a side garden wall and from the look of it it clearly wasn't. It's heartbreaking.
Enjoy your berries. The lost wildlife hedgerow is tragic.
Bollocking marigolds.

bakermummy21 · 19/08/2024 15:04

We've picked loads and they are the best quality this year. Love them

Bluemincat · 19/08/2024 15:04

I'm like this too - I'm weirdly obsessed with it and can't figure out what I love to much about it! I guess it's kind of mindful and also makes me feel smug to come back with masses of what is usually an expensive fruit - all for free!

I've got nettle stings, scratches and some horribly itchy bites but still love it!

Bluemincat · 19/08/2024 15:05

Most of mine get made into blackberry cobbler. So easy and delicious.

Do not talk to me of brambles.

Today I fell off my wall (whilst brambling) about 4ft into a large patch of the bastards. I am covered in scratches and really sore.

And I dropped my tub of brambles upside down and lost them all. 😓
