My neighbours Sunday activities!

So, great news! My delightful neighbour started working on his cars at 6am this morning. Fantastic.

Last Sunday it was 5am! Then it's a day of revving engines and moving all 3 of his cars back and forward.

I have been up most of night with a poorly baby so not in the best of moods, I've finally got her to sleep and this tit starts revving an old Capri engine at 6am! Why? Why does he do it?

He's in his early 60s and this is every single Sunday without fail, he takes over the cul-de-sac with his cars. He had 4 himself and his wife has her own. She is lovely but he's not exactly very approachable and has been known to get shouty.

How is your Sunday going?

My brother once mowed the lawn before work at 7.30am, well two or three times I think, instant letter from council ( privately owned house) telling him to stop

Honestly never occurred to, him that it would be annoying, he was just trying to fit it in around his busy life

Council complaint..

Edited

Domestic noise is allowed from 7am to 11pm
I think you or your council are mistakeN.

Cattery · 18/08/2024 12:19

I was woken up by the bloke next door but one shouting “HOORAAAAY” every time one of his three little kids kicked a ball. Prick

shittestusernameever · 18/08/2024 13:34

I've tried to get a little nap but unfortunately my neighbour has now moved onto one of his other cars. I'm assuming a big jobs broke out because he's changed into overalls.

I'm considering popping to my mums flat and trying to get an hour on her sofa.

I'm reporting him to my HA first thing, he's had more chances than I would like to give him.

Be very suprised then. Working on cars is covered as different from Road Noise. Revving especially. If you look at your local councils website, sometimes they even give examples including this. Obviously that is different from having to work on the car as a one off because the car won't start.. The occurances can be weeks and months apart. Doesn't need to be directed at you (that would be harassment). Work which may cause your neighbourts to loose on night time sleep can get you in trouble. Social Housing tenants sometimes have clauses in their contracts specifying that working on cars is not allowed even. (Dependant on HA).

I did have a look, and from what I can see on my council’s website and on the Government page it directs you to, I can’t see much/ any support for what you’ve written.

AbraAbraCadabra · 18/08/2024 23:33

Why has no one in your street reported him to the council?!? You should all get together. I complained about someone burning god knows what repeatedly sending thick black smoke into all the nearby houses. They sent one letter and they've never done it again.

shittestusernameever · 19/08/2024 01:23

I cannot believe this, it's 1:30 am and he's outside tinkering with his car. The bonnet opening and shutting woke me up.

He's going back and too from the car into his house. If he starts it up they'll be hell to pay

He drove off and he's just arrived back. I've recorded it for the housing because I'm reporting him tomorrow.

I've tried to attach a recording of him revving his engine but it's not allowing me for some reason. It's nearly 2am ffs

I really feel for you @shittestusernameever Our neighbour is a car enthusiast and constantly working on them, but they don't do it before 10 am at the weekend. However, their car has a noisy exhaust and he goes to work at 6am. Most of the time I can sleep through it, but if I am awake then it gets really hard to get back to sleep.
I hope the HA can do something about it as he is causing a noise nuisance. There is no need for anyone to work on their cars so early, let alone in the middle of the night!

Family of 3 opposite us has 6 cars and 3 motorbikes. They get up at 6am on Sundays to drive the motorbikes, which are running for 15 mins before they even leave the street.

Motorbikes do have to warm up, but it should take no more than 5 minutes. And certainly not at 6am, unless they're off to work.

Let's hope the bastard doesn't wrap it round a tree. That would be a tragedy!

@SushiSheep we're in a village with an estate built behind his house so I would think it affects a lot of people. He either doesn't care or he's just oblivious

There’s no way he’s oblivious, he just a grade A cunt. Lots of them about,

Save the recording for a later time, just keep recording and making notes.

TequilaNights · 19/08/2024 13:15

Report it, every single time.

TakeMe2Insanity · 19/08/2024 13:15

Our neighbour is home all day but only works on them in the evenings aka from 7pm. Yup.

Oh for heavens sake. If he wants to run a garage he should move out to an industrial estate and make as much noise as he wants. Report every time.

JohnofWessex · 19/08/2024 17:28

Thinking about it The Police cvan also issue a S59 Notice about his driving

A Section 59 notice is a police power that can be used against drivers who use their vehicles in a way that causes alarm, distress, or annoyance. The notice applies to both the driver and the vehicle, and typically results in a verbal warning that lasts for 12 months. The police also capture details about the incident and store them in their database.

If the driver or someone else driving the vehicle is caught driving in an antisocial manner again within the 12-month period, the vehicle can be seized. If the vehicle isn't collected after the driver pays for storage and recovery costs, it will be crushed.

Different police forces have different policies regarding how they use Section 59 powers. For example, North Yorkshire Police requires an officer to witness the driving behavior before they can use their Section 59 powers.

He's not oblivious, because he has been asked to stop. He just doesn't care. Fucking sociopath.

CaptainCabinetsTrappedInCabinets · 19/08/2024 17:41

Would it just be awful if handfuls of nails ended up on his driveway in the middle of the night?

Judecb · 19/08/2024 17:50

If you're on good terms, speak to him about it. If not, make a lot of noise when you are up during the night!

Pantherino · 19/08/2024 17:58

Contact your council as well as the HA. You have good grounds for a noise complaint.

You can also report him for working on his car in the public road. It's not illegal in itself but causing an annoyance is reportable and adds weight to the fact this scruffy twat is out there at all hours.

This is noise pollution and Antisocial behaviour. He's breaking the law with noise before 8am and not to mention car pollution in a small street. I think I would be looking at complaint to the council about the noise and they will send out recording devices. There's also environmental health/highway code if he's blocking emergency vehicles with all of those cars.

2024intake · 18/08/2024 07:12

This would drive me insane. Isn’t there a law that you are not allowed to make this kind of noise until after 8am?

Yeah I thought the same!

Poodleydoodley · 19/08/2024 19:06

My dog Jodie enjoys a snack in the middle of the night. That wouldn’t be a problem except that she likes to give a running commentary on her meal by giving a loud ‘whoop’ between bites.

CinnamonTart · 19/08/2024 19:09

If you can’t upload recordings / videos, can you save them in dropbox or the cloud and give the council the link so they can look through all your carpi-arsehole vids?
