Swansea, definitely. Great city, loads of amazing beaches on your doorstep. Gower close by

Meem321 · 17/08/2024 15:03

Not sure I'd describe Cwmbran as 'gorgeous'...
Barry/Rhoose have so nice areas, beach and are about 20 mins from Cardiff.

whoscoatsthatjacket2012 · 17/08/2024 15:05

Swansea.

45 minutes to Cardiff and we have the BEST beaches.
Lots of lovely places to live and your budget is healthy for South Wales

Another vote for Swansea area. Beautiful countryside and beaches within easy reach.

KnickerlessParsons · 17/08/2024 15:09

Tenby or Saundersfoot.
Chepstow, Swansea, Carmarthen,
Narberh is also lovely.

LadyInDecline · 17/08/2024 15:12

Swansea City, Swansea Valley or Neath Valley.
Great access to beach and countryside. M4 access. Good train service to London.
Cardiff is easy by rail. Car or coach.

Affordable property.

MessyNeate · 17/08/2024 15:13

Few little towns and villages about 20 mins from Cardiff. 10/15 mins from many beaches

Pencoed
Bridgend
Pontyclun
Beddau
Lantwit fadre
Church Village

All on M4 link road

House prices in my village range from 180 - 360k

I'm English and have retired to the Gower Peninsula.

Personally I don't like Swansea city centre or Cardiff but they're easy access.

Dmsandfloatydress · 17/08/2024 15:28

Risca and cwmbran gorgeous? Compared to what? Aleppo after the war? Beruit?
I second the Gower or Vale of Glamorgan.

Gosh no. Swansea B&B but I'd never live anywhere near the centre it's rubbish.

Can't think of anywhere in Wales outside an hour of Swansea/Cardiff that meets your requirements.

TroysMammy · 17/08/2024 16:23

Swansea, it has everything you are looking for. Cardiff as a big city is about 45 minutes away but the beaches are miles better in Swansea/Gower.

Friendofdennis · 17/08/2024 16:29

what type of house are you thinking of ? Swansea is great but it was bombed heavily during ww2 and the city was re built in a modern style of the time. Places such as Loughor or Gowerton are not far from Swansea and you can get down to Gower peninsular and the beaches of Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire within an hour
