I think 'Please Please Please' sounds like 'I Just Called To Say I Love You'.

Does anyone else agree?

No I can’t hear it all, I have been listening to SC song on repeat and just listened to Stevie… literally can’t hear any similarities

CatchMyHorse · 16/08/2024 13:46

It's the backing where I hear it.

twojumps · 16/08/2024 14:15

Who sings Please Please Please?

MadMaxHasSandInHisCrack · 16/08/2024 14:21

Hmm i don't hear that. Will listen again!

But surely the lyrics should be, "please, please, please don't prove THEM right" (sorry, it just bugs me!)

BlueBlueBerries · 16/08/2024 14:23

@twojumps Sabrina Carpenter

ellebelli · 16/08/2024 14:43

Dont mind the song but the little sucker bit annoys me so bad..sounds shit.
Now I know they can't play the original on thr radio but still! Don't put crap in tour song if it has to be edited Like that to be played.

BlueBlueBerries · 16/08/2024 14:23

@twojumps Sabrina Carpenter

Not a clue who that is Blush

CatchMyHorse · 16/08/2024 16:22

@twojumps It's young people's music.

OP posts:
MinnieDog · 16/08/2024 16:25

@MadMaxHasSandInHisCrack both fit I think! 'Don't prove them right' and 'don't prove I'm right' but I think them works better

MinnieDog · 16/08/2024 16:26

And no, I can't hear the similarities at all (I just had a listen but honestly can't!)

TenarAtuan · 16/08/2024 16:31

I don't hear it, no.
I do substitute all sorts of words and sing it in that wheedling voice to my teens all the time though. Highly satisfying when I manage a rhyme. Please please please get out of bed now.....etc.

Yes, I guessed that. Im getting worse Smile

AllTipAndNoIceberg · 16/08/2024 16:37

I thought this was going to be about the Smiths 👵🏻

invisiblecat · 16/08/2024 17:31

Bassline is totally different, rhythm is totally different, melody is totally different, chord progressions are totally different. In short - nothing like it whatsoever.

Nobody writes songs like Stevie Wonder. Nobody.

I misread your title as "Please Please Me" and was about to post a wtf response Grin

Liv999 · 16/08/2024 17:36

A little bit at the beginning I think but I wouldn't have noticed it until you mentioned it OP

MushMonster · 16/08/2024 17:41

I cannot hear it either

Isn’t it ‘mother fucker’ rather than ‘little sucker’? Obviously the radio version has that blanked out though (I haven’t heard a version where they’ve replaced it.

There's a sort of rhythmic kinship, I suppose…

GreatReader · 16/08/2024 19:41

@twojumps SC - she's mainstream pop rather than 'young people music' so it's not an age thing and you're not getting worse!

About half her audience are 18-25, about 20-30% 25-35. Appeals to a particular target demographic. She signed to Hollywood Records (Disney), starred in Disney Channel output. Niece of megastar Nancy Cartwright (Bart Simpson's voice and and decorated scientologist - as she donated millions). Opening act for Taylor Swift.

It's not, not cool, if you haven't heard of her before or not into her music. Not related to Karen Carpenter although SC has sung covers of KC songs.

Similarity to other songs - music often sounds alike because there are only 7 notes in each key, and the same underlying sequence of chords is used, and different keys, arrangements and instruments, and styles but the same chord progression.

Mull · 16/08/2024 20:00

Can’t hear Stevie Wonder but I think the chorus is really similar to Pink Floyd’s ‘Brick in the Wall’. Same guitar riff.
