I think 'Please Please Please' sounds like 'I Just Called To Say I Love You'.

Does anyone else agree?

Can’t hear Stevie Wonder but I think the chorus is really similar to Pink Floyd’s ‘Brick in the Wall’. Same guitar riff.

😂 omg yeah, I wonder if it’s a coincidence or deliberate. Dave Gilmour will be so happy (actually he might be…)

I thought this was going to be about the Smiths 👵🏻

Me too!

newleafontheplantjohn · 16/08/2024 22:21

I'm not up to date with current music at all but I have heard this and it is very catchy....although I can't stand that little clap that she does, and have seen posts on social media describing it as "iconic" BlushConfused Anybody can clap, it really isn't iconic.

I don't hear the similarity to Stevie Wonder though.

OraettaMayflower · 16/08/2024 22:45

Please Please Please is listenable whereas I just called to say I love you is one of the worst songs ever written, inane dross. And I say that as someone who loves Stevie Wonder.

Supersoakers · 16/08/2024 22:48

Yes I thought I’d be the only one thinking it was like another brick in the wall!
The lyrics are don’t prove I’m right. I love this song. I love the lyrics.

I can't hear any similarity. I do hate the song though, and think SC is overrated.

@twojumps It's young people's music.

🤣 true! My DD8 is obsessed with her! Sabrina Carpenter gets mentioned a million times a day.

I’m like, what about The Carpenters, would you like me to stick ticket to ride on?!

GreySweater · 16/08/2024 23:17

Agree with those who say it sounds like Pink Floyd's 'Another Brick in The Wall'. Same riff. To the point that she must be paying them royalties, surely?

MadMaxHasSandInHisCrack · 17/08/2024 09:03

'Don't prove I'm right' makes no sense, as she's saying he's changed and is good now.

'Don't prove them right' = they all think he's a screw up, so don't act that way and prove them right!

I don't know why this annoys me so much 😆

BriceNobeslovesMurielHeslop · 17/08/2024 09:07

It just sets me off singing “Please Please Please…” by The Smiths. It’s not my favourite (and I agree that it should be “don’t prove them right”), but I like the line about the ceiling fan, it makes me laugh.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 17/08/2024 09:08

It really doesn't, I just listened to it and it's just shit pop, I recognise it from Tesco. A swear word doesn't make it cool or edgy.

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 17/08/2024 09:09

I think it has Megan Trainor vibes

Coconutter24 · 17/08/2024 09:11

Just listened to them both because I thought no way but I think they have the same or similar tempo, I can hear what you mean. The songs don’t sound similar but tempo/beats do

PoliteOtter · 17/08/2024 09:15

ThatOneUncomfortableEyelash · 16/08/2024 17:33

I misread your title as "Please Please Me" and was about to post a wtf response Grin

Same! In the interests of balance I have listened to the song on YouTube and disagree OP. It sounds nothing like I just Called, or Brick in the Wall.

Yogayogayoga · 17/08/2024 09:16

I like the video for Barry Keoghan 🥵

Igotjelly · 16/08/2024 17:56

Isn’t it ‘mother fucker’ rather than ‘little sucker’? Obviously the radio version has that blanked out though (I haven’t heard a version where they’ve replaced it.

The radio version I've heard has 'little sucker' instead. It does not sound right.

Coughsweet · 17/08/2024 09:24

I’m on one of her mailing lists, I got two emails yesterday titled “7 days whores”. A “new deluxe” version of her album is out in a week apparently.

Supersoakers · 17/08/2024 10:16

It’s only the intro music that vaguely reminds me of brick in the wall or is it staying alive 🤣

Supersoakers · 17/08/2024 10:18

The bit of music after the word education in brick in the wall and the little bit of music just before she starts singing has the same rhythm

Oh yeah to be fair prove ‘em right works better but she also blatantly knows he’s a cock and is totally expecting him to show her up

Toosoonjokes · 29/09/2024 17:03

I just came to this realization today and totally agree. I don’t know what this site is, and I’m not a parent. I’m a 37 year old musician from the United States. You have a good ear.

CatchMyHorse · 29/09/2024 19:45

Thank you! I feel vindicated.

It does.

I loved Espresso, but this is a very weak song and I don't think it's good at all.

CatchMyHorse · 29/09/2024 21:19

Ha I really like it and I think it's a stronger song overall than I Just Called which I'll be honest was not HRH Stevie at his best.
