If we suddenly had to go into a 3 month lockdown again, how would you feel?

I think people would definitely comply. If it was Mpox I would want a smallpox vaccine as it's somewhat effective.

I don’t think anyone would go along with a lockdown. Even with all the fear mongering news that would ramp up.

All that said, I loved the first lockdown and it gave me a chance to cut a lot of stress out of my life.

I feel that this point was missed. The people with the very best knowledge and insight of the situation, better informed than anyone else in the country, weren't at all scared of socialising. They knew it wasn't dangerous. But they wanted us to believe it was.

Er, Boris did nearly die!

LlynTegid · 16/08/2024 07:23

The kind of restrictions in place between March and July 2020 in the UK won't happen again (I don't call it lockdown as you could go out each day and compare it with say Italian or Spanish restrictions which were lockdown). Partly because of the Downing Street parties, even though I am certain this current government would not behave in such a way.

Firefly1987 · 16/08/2024 07:22

Er, Boris did nearly die!

Boris Johnson needed hospital treatment, I don't think his life was in danger. Even though he probably caught it from his own recklessness, and killed 20,000 people by his lack of attention in the beginning.

babyyoyoquestions · 16/08/2024 07:25

I think I’d cry ! My last baby was in 2020 and we are trying for another I don’t want another lockdown !!!!

TheWrongBus · 15/08/2024 23:45

I’d bet a hefty sum that all you Billy Big Bollocks, claiming you’d never lock down, would be barricading yourselves in your homes sharpish if you ran into someone looking like this and sneezing at you in your local Tesco!

Poor man…

Edited

exactly! Covid was pretty much invisible. I'm sure if you saw your neighbors wandering around with great big pustules over their body you would be quite happy to stay in your house!!! Lockdown was SHIT, but necessary at the time. I worked in A&E throughout and it was horrendous - I wish I was allowed to be holed up at home, but no.... I had to work!

CautionaryTaleGirl · 16/08/2024 07:31

I loved lockdown although it was disastrous for me financially.

I'm a rule follower, can't help it, it's ingrained into my personality. So if there was another lockdown I would no doubt do it.

TheNoonBell · 16/08/2024 07:32

I wouldn't comply or take any so called "vaccine".

AreYouVeryAnti · 16/08/2024 07:35

And to all those people saying "sure I'd do lockdown again, I had such a lovely time" I'd say:-

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

Please, think about wider society, children, our economy, the poor, the lonely, etc. etc. even if only from a selfish point of view! If everything falls apart you're going to be in trouble despite your lovely house and endless reading and crafting... (and I can sympathise, I really can, in different circumstances lockdown would've been the dream for me)

And to all those people saying "I'd love it, I'm too busy". Do you not see that it's a bit much to expect the entire world to shut down to help you manage your calendar? Just cancel some stuff. Have therapy to deal with the FOMO. It would be cheaper to pay for all the therapy for all the FOMO than the furlough.

MiddleAgedDread · 16/08/2024 07:36

Not a fucking chance, I’ve got friends whose mental health is still suffering from the last round of social isolation.

GoTigers · 16/08/2024 07:37

Nope. Not a chance.

My industry shut down, I wasn’t eligible for furlough and had to use my saved house deposit to survive. I live alone and had no one to bubble with.

Not a fucking chance I’d go through that again.

Misthios · 16/08/2024 07:40

I wouldn't do it either. Obviously you can't go to shops which are closed or send your kids to schools which are locked but I wouldn't stop seeing people or having people in the house.

Won't happen anyway, we can't afford it as a country, they also know that we as a nation are not going to compliantly go along with it as we did last time.

CrunchyCarrot · 16/08/2024 07:42

Every virus is different, but I do think if mpox starts to become widespread in this country then just pictures of people with it with be enough to panic many. We are such an obsessed culture with physical appearance, how many will want to chance having lifelong scarring - just like chickenpox, mpox can leave scars.

There are already 2 vaccines (smallpox) called ACAM2000 - the original one that causes a lot of side effects - and Jynneos, a kinder version! I know the US has millions of doses, of course not every country will. Many elderly people will have had a smallpox vaccine and that may well protect them.

Personally I will be getting my information from respected virologists and not FB nor X. This Sunday an episode of This Week in Virology will be released where mpox is discussed in detail, so I'll be listening to that and will post a link here.

Pickled21 · 16/08/2024 07:45

I work in healthcare and worked all the way through covid. Masked up, short staffed, stressed, dealing with pissed off angry customers/patients. I'd not put myself through all that uncertainty at work again. I'm self employed and would just go off but as we wouldn't be going anywhere would be able to afford it. I also have 2 school aged kids now so would have to homeschool. Dh already wfh 2 days a week so he would just continue.

I didn't see my side of the family for a year. I wouldn't want to do that again.

Dymaxion · 16/08/2024 07:45

I worked all the way through the lockdowns, enjoyed the very little traffic, otherwise there was very little difference to now, apart from masks of course !

SaltandPepper22 · 16/08/2024 07:50

I have fond memories of some of the early lockdown in March 2020. I was working as a teacher at a complex needs school and they hadn’t worked out how to make online learning work for them at the beginning but also had hardly any children in (although they all had EHCPs and were eligible there was a general parental consensus to keep their children at home unless absolutely necessary). So there were about 4 kids in school and I just popped in for one week out of 8 to basically babysit them. The rest of the time I had time and space to write my masters dissertation and cook elaborate dinners. DH and I used to go for drives and listen to music to get out the house and charge the car batteries and we enjoyed those.

As the year went on and into 2021 my and my husband’s mental health was terrible. It is only with space with have recognised this as at the time we thought we were doing quite well. My husband was drinking way too much and getting up at 4 in the afternoons on weekends because there was nothing else to do. And I went the total other way and got obsessively into wellness.

We were living in a flat at the time with no balcony and it did make you feel a bit crazy. We have a house and a nice garden now so that would be better and I have left teaching and work a hybrid role that could be done fully remotely very easily. Same for DH.

Another lockdown would be awful and I don’t think we would take it as seriously as last time (worrying we were going to get arrested for doing a service station present drop off in the dark before that Christmas that was cancelled) but we would comply a bit - it’s not health anxiety so much as fear as getting in trouble for me! I would enjoy saving money again - our household income was about £25k less then and our housing costs here higher but we were still saving about £1000/month without really trying due to not going anywhere or doing anything.

XenoBitch · 15/08/2024 23:40

For the people that loved lockdowns, and would welcome another... why not just live life that way anyway, and let the people who did not share your lockdown experience go on and live theirs...

Confused Because, unlike in lockdown, if I didn't go to work I wouldn't get paid!

IcedPurple · 16/08/2024 07:53

I think people would demand much more evidence, and wouldn't meekly comply like they did last time.

Anyway, it's not going to happen.

Frowningprovidence · 16/08/2024 07:53

Well I had a nice time but I'd really worry about the impact on other people, particularly my eldest son, but also my parents who each live on thier own. Plus the economic recovery has been difficult.

thecatsthecats · 16/08/2024 07:53

Yes, I'd comply more or less.

I had long covid for 14m after contracting covid early in the first wave (probably in the supermarket, as that was the only inside place I went).

I thought I was losing my mind at one point. Brain fog gave symptoms not dissimilar to dementia. It was terrifying. I simply do not have the time to accommodate another year plus of post-viral illness this decade, thanks.

I'd be cautious, but would take calculated risks. E.g. I'd isolate to meet people I could trust to isolate for a week at least beforehand. (ILs do not pass this test - they met up with us knowing they had COVID a week before we were all due to go on a group holiday that we could have been removed from if we tested positive FFS!)

Indianajet · 16/08/2024 07:54

I wouldn't isolate again - I live alone and would continue to see my family for the sake of my mental health.

Aishah231 · 16/08/2024 07:54

I won't comply again. I won't wear a mask or have a rushed vaccine either. There was too much lying and profiteering last time I wouldn't go along with it again.

babyyoyoquestions · 16/08/2024 07:55

TheNoonBell · 16/08/2024 07:32

I wouldn't comply or take any so called "vaccine".

I think this time if it happened would be hard to be non compliant as KS will have special
courts running to deal with it quickly like the riot issues . I think it would be harsh if it happened

But people aren't saying they think there should be a lockdown. They are saying how they would feel personally if there were another lockdown. Saying 'I enjoyed lockdown' doesn't make any difference to whether there will ever be one.

I didn’t mind lock down - lovely hot weather, played with the kids, read books.

But I had a job that could t be down from home, but now have a WFH job so it wouldnt be as much fun.

Agree about WFH - my employer sent laptops to us all at home about 4 days into the first lockdown, DH and DS had fun though!

WFH permanently now
