Honestly how messy is your house right now?

Ok anyone else struggling to keep the house tidy on the school holidays? The worst part is our kitchen with the island-loads of family crap on top of it! including books and work from school but can’t bring myself to bin ot just yet. The kids bedrooms are also pretty messy.
ok how bad is your house?

Not too bad, unless you look in wardrobes, they’re on the list to be decluttered.
I like the kitchen and main living areas tidy before bed. The kids rooms can get a bit messy but not too bad today

Incakewetrust · 14/08/2024 21:29

It's a bit of a mixture. Kitchen is clean and tidy, living room needs a hoover (and let's not talk about the state under the sofas), playroom is an absolute tip and the test of the house is pretty clean and tidy.
I have three storage rooms and 2 of them are unorganised mountains of crap but I just pretend they're not part of the house as I never go in them 🤣🤣🤣

maisiedaisy64 · 14/08/2024 21:34

13wk old and 2.5 yr old. Currently stuck under baby on the sofa. 3 of the sofa cushions (the big ones that you sit on not the little cushions) are on the floor, along with eleventy billion tiny pieces of toddler toys. Oh, and the potato masher. Not sure how that got there.

The kitchen has the remnants of a baking session earlier with the toddler which I didn’t get to tidy due to baby deciding sleep was for weaklings around 6. Dishes etc from tea have yet to be tidied for the same reason.

island hasn’t been seen for weeks…using it as a changing station as the toddler liked to climb up on the changing table so that’s been relegated to the spare room.

Toddler’s bedroom has had a teddy bear explosion I’ve yet to resolve.

So yea, not great overall 😂

Mine is immaculate!! This is only because DH has taken the DC off to visit his parents for a week so it’s just me and the cat. They left Monday morning just as the cleaner arrived. I’ve only had to do one load of laundry so far this week, so it’s all dried and put away. There isn’t an endless stream of dirty bowls, cups, plates etc being dumped by the sink. I don’t have shoes lying in the hall that have just been kicked off and left where they came off.

They are all due back on Sunday so it will be a complete shit tip again by Monday afternoon.

Bedrooms are tidy. Kitchen semi tidy but will give it a good clean tmrw. Living room is ok but has a few random things strewn around (kids hoodies) and a large pile of books that need to be transferred to the new shelves we have built. When my kids were tiny (they are now 12 & 8), it would have been chaos when they’d been home all day!

Bigoldmachine · 14/08/2024 22:08

Hmm it’s usual state which is

  • generally pretty tidy with a spattering of toys in random places eg 2 dinosaurs on the bathroom floor
  • needs a hoover
  • stuff left out mid-project (eg boxes from furniture delivery stacked by the door, haven’t made it to the recycling yet. Also two bags of charity shop stuff left on the landing).
Saplingthing · 14/08/2024 22:09

Everything was ok until I got Covid at the weeekend. Now mostly doing the basics every day but I do need to vacuum and mop and tidy the toys in the lounge. It would probably take me an hour to get everything straight but I’m just exhausted.

Freeasabird76 · 14/08/2024 22:09

My mental health is super low at moment so house reflects this, really messy and cluttered right now and paralysed about where to start.

Singleandproud · 14/08/2024 22:10

All of the washings been done since our holiday but I've not got around to ironing it yet so have clothes piles all over. Were also decorating so tha adds another element of chaos.

Lovelysummerdays · 14/08/2024 22:11

Kids went back to school yesterday so it’s cleaner than it was. Working from home today so managed to do lots of laundry too.

CalicoPusscat · 14/08/2024 22:16

Downstairs and bathrooms are passable but my bedroom is like a messy mini warehouse

ViciousCurrentBun · 14/08/2024 22:19

Downstairs has always been tidy regardless of how old children were but upstairs bedrooms were another story.

Conniethecatapillar · 14/08/2024 22:20

The whole house is a complete tip. It usually is though so I'm used to it!

K37529 · 14/08/2024 22:22

I just cleaned the kitchen so there is clean, living room is reasonably clean, and one bedroom upstairs is clean. The rest is a mess tbh. I’m sick of cleaning, I’ve 3 5 and under and a disabled 11 year old who makes as much mess as the younger ones. I feel like as soon as I clean one room they’ve messed another room or I have to cook them food and it’s back to washing dishes again, no room for a dishwasher unfortunately. I honestly don’t know how people keep their home clean with kids, mine are like little tornados. I went into the bathroom this morning and one of them had smeared toothpaste all over the mirror and wall, probably the oldest, it is just never ending.

TrappedPotato · 14/08/2024 22:23

It's tidy apart from DSD's room (which is always horrific) and I have a load of washing drying that will need putting away in the morning. The main areas of the house are always tidy, it's the DC's rooms that are hit and miss!

Belladone · 14/08/2024 22:25

I’ve just had my grandchildren to stay for a few days, i waved them off just over an hour ago, took one look round, made a drink and gone to bed. That’s tomorrow’s problem, maybe a fairy will come and sort it 😁

RagzRebooted · 14/08/2024 22:26

A complete tip, but we're moving in 2 weeks so boxes everywhere and cleaning has been pushed down the list while we make even more mess. I've had what I think was probably COVID so not been doing much normal housework, so kitchen and bathrooms are grim (though DS1 washed up while I was work).

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 14/08/2024 22:28

It's a complete mess but reasonably clean underneath it all. Whole house needs decorating though have some half finished jobs everywhere

Ilovecrispstoomuch · 14/08/2024 22:28

Mine is really tidy right now. Because we’re on holiday and haven’t been near it for almost a week 😂 I always do a good clean before going away. I was hoovering the kitchen as my dh was packing the kids in the van.
i love coming home to a clean house.
It will get trashed in about an hour when we get back tomorrow 😩

bge · 14/08/2024 22:29

Everywhere except my bedroom is passable, could be guest ready in maybe an hour (clean the loos again, hoover, washing away). Except my room which is just full of piles of crap. One day I’ll get round to it

DeathMetalMum · 14/08/2024 22:31

Ours is a mess, we got back from holiday Monday afternoon, have got through all the washing except towels (caravan holiday). The house has looked like a laundrette the past two days. Dc are 11&13 and generally tidy after themselvs (when told) but I find it difficult tidying/cleaning around them.

We also started decorating the bathroom at the end of term but have some bits to finish, that a far easier with less people in the house.

HowAmITheCatsGranny · 14/08/2024 22:32

I ran the dishwasher this afternoon, but I still need to empty it, so the dinner dishes are still on the counter.
The ironing board is still up in the living room because ds still needs to iron his work uniform for tomorrow (I’m not going to moan though because on Tuesday he did my work trousers at the same time as his.) There is also laundry drying in the spare room.
The bathroom is pretty clean, but the hallway has a pile of recycling and some shopping bags waiting for me to put them in the car.
I guess you could say it is lived in!

hot2trotter · 14/08/2024 22:33

Very tidy. But I have OCD and wouldn't be able to sleep if it wasn't

DinnaeFashYersel · 14/08/2024 22:35

Tidyish and cleanish - no one's going to get ill.

I wouldn't have guests round for dinner but it's fine for every day life.

Although compared to those on here who vacuum and mop multiple times a day they'd probably regard it as a bomb site 🤣🤣🤣

invisiblecat · 14/08/2024 22:35

Shambolic.

Dc grown and moved out, so it really is all on me and DH!
