I am currently unemployed.
I have been for 8 months now.
I have been offered a job in a spa as a receptionist.
It's 30hrs per week but the hours are shocking.
It's a week of 3pm till 11pm (Tuesday ,Wednesday ,Thursday and Sunday )
And then
7.30 am till 3.30pm
The following week

I just can't even think about working till 11pm
I will have no life at all will I ?
It's min wage too

I have no other job interviews at the minute either

Would you do this ?

I would love those hours! Assuming you don't need to rely on public transport to get there?

Op has said she would be picked up at night by her fiancé.

GiveMeThePurpleOne · 13/08/2024 22:35

I'd take it, see how you get on you have nothing to lose.
In the meantime I would also keep searching for a job with better hours.

flarp · 13/08/2024 22:35

I used to work the 3-11pm shift in a warehouse. It was a great shift - you had much of the day to yourself and I found I didn't spend as much money doing that shift either.

moorin · 13/08/2024 22:40

Nope. Not a chance. Hold out for something with better shifts

Really? OP has been unemployed for eight months already.

Maraudingmarauders · 13/08/2024 23:02

I worked 2-10 for years. Loved it as a shift - lie ins and half the day to do stuff, shopping, dog walks, brunch out. Never have to worry about getting doctors/dentists appointments in work time etc etc. Come winter when you finish at 5pm in a normal job it feels like the day is over anyway. So by working 2-10 I felt I had more of a life. I honestly felt like I worked part time.
Doing half and half (half lates half earlies) is like best of both worlds as you can schedule meals out for your early weeks, don't need to take leave for a cinema trip etc. But then you've got a week of lates to do morning stuff in. Plus you'll finish at 3pm on a Friday and not start until 3pm on a Monday every other week.Amazing.

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 13/08/2024 23:06

I'd definitely take it, the hours aren't that bad, it's only 30 hours and you have 3 days a week off.

It's far better than being unemployed, you'll have your own money, you can use it as a stepping stone to something you prefer in future and you're likely to get discount treatments. The latter for me would be a perk, but I'd take it anyway.

Yawncat · 13/08/2024 23:18

Of course I would if I was unemployed and had been for 8 months

blindmansays · 13/08/2024 21:51

It's a 11 min drive away
We don't have kids yet and partner will pick me up every night

In that case I would take it.

qwertyasdfgzxcv · 14/08/2024 00:15

Wouldn't bother me. A nice lie in on those days and a bit of time to get a wash on and have lunch at home. You don't know how good/bad it will be until you try it.

Ah soz l missed that bit

CheeseWisely · 14/08/2024 00:26

If I hadn't had a job for 8 months I'd take any job with any hours.

DTisawazzock · 14/08/2024 00:50

Don't take it. Leave it for someone who actually wants to work and have a job.

PurpleJustice · 14/08/2024 01:06

You've been chilling at home for 8 months, so have had plenty of 'me time' surely??

11pm a few days a fortnight is really no hardship for someone with no dependents.

VilanelleTutu · 14/08/2024 01:26

As a 40 + person, I think I’d struggle with the late finish. But had no trouble with working multiple bar shifts when younger, often working the day and the late shifts on a weekend.
unless you’ve got health issues, I think you shouldn’t really turn this down.

Berlinlover · 14/08/2024 01:44

I can’t understand why you wouldn’t take it, it sounds fine to me.

OonaStubbs · 14/08/2024 02:05

If you're unemployed for 8 months you can't afford to be picky.

Mammyloveswine · 14/08/2024 02:09

You get fri, sat and Monday off.. don't start until late.. it's only every other week,, it's fine!

Justsayit123 · 14/08/2024 02:12

4 lates every 14 days…. Not an issue ffs

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/08/2024 02:21

Yes deffo

8mths of no work is a lot

What has partner said ?

You can go out fri and sat night every week

And ever other week go out anytime

Sweetteaplease · 14/08/2024 02:24

I think that could be ok because you basically have most of the day to do things. Have dinner at work in your break, come home wind down and bed by 12ish. Totally doable. Might actually be quite nice.

What is it about these hours that you don't like OP?
Why does being at work 4 evenings a fortnight leave you with "no life"?

If you are only working 30 hours over four days surely you have a lot of time to yourself?

There's been loads of posts like this recently.

I don't know if they're all by the same person but they've all been asking about an easish job situation in terms of hours, commute, conditions or need to sometimes work Christmas but the OP seems reluctant to take the job for no tangible reason.

Always in hospitality/leisure after an extended period of unemployment too.

OP if this is all you and you're anxious about returning to work that's what you need to ask for advice or reassureance about, not repeated cryptic posts canvassing opinions about whether people on MN would take a particular job that on the face of it sounds great, even more so if you get free or cheap access to the spa which would be an obvious perk for this employer to offer.

andfinallyhereweare · 14/08/2024 03:53

In your situation yes. At least it’s not Friday or Saturday nights!
