Can you move individual toes?

I was reading a newspaper article yesterday about looking after your feet. I think it was the Guardian.

The writer was talking about trying to move one toe at a time and just nothing happening. Apparently it's very good for your feet, and for your stability and flexibility in later life, to be able to do this.

I can move my big to separately but not the others.

How about you?

Nope, me neither. DH can, but I think it's just down to the skeleton and muscular architecture of your foot ie you either have it or you don't.

I've never been able to wiggle my toes or scrunch them like he can - as a child or adult.

TuesdayWhistler · 13/08/2024 14:41

Nope. When I try, they all move up or down and that about all I can do.

I hate my feet. I wish I could have them surgically removed.. but I'd fall over all the time.

Timeisnevertimeatall · 13/08/2024 14:43

I can.

Plimsoll73 · 13/08/2024 14:44

I can but I worked very hard to do it 😅 don't ask. Anyway, I have very active toes!

BeyondOlympicLevelProcrastinator · 13/08/2024 14:45

I can wiggle my little toes separate to the others, but not the middle ones

Doyoumind · 13/08/2024 14:45

Big toes and little toes, I can.

Ginkypig · 13/08/2024 14:46

I have odd feet I think I thought everyone had feet like mine. As an adult I have realised not so.

i can bend my toes down but only the big one lifts none of the rest of my toes move except for the one next to the big toe but only because the big one shift it slightly like a partial paralysis.

Beth216 · 13/08/2024 14:46

OH can and I find it freaky as fuck, he's also the clumsiest person ever and would trip over/walk into/fall off anything. So I'm not buying it and am very happy not being able to.

TeabySea · 13/08/2024 14:47

Most of them. I'm hypermobile.

TeabySea · 13/08/2024 14:47

Most of them. I'm hypermobile.

I am too btw. I can also wiggle my ears 😁

DramaAlpaca · 13/08/2024 14:48

Yes I can, but I have to concentrate and focus very hard to move the middle ones individually.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 13/08/2024 14:50

You do know I’m now sitting in my sandles wiggling them ? 😄

I'd like to say I can knit or crochet with my toes but that’s a lie . I have broken four of them in the past years ( lesser toes ) so limited

ISpyWithMyLittleEyeSomethingBeginningWith · 13/08/2024 14:50

No. I can hardly move my toes at all.

OverthinkingRogue · 13/08/2024 14:52

No, but I can flare my nostrils!

spanieleyes · 13/08/2024 14:57

No, my toes "twitch" a little all together but that's it, very little movement at all!

EBearhug · 13/08/2024 15:00

I can only move the middle two next to the big toe together, but otherwise, yes. I do yoga regularly though, and sometimes we just stand and lift and lower toe by toe (or try to.) I can also pick things up with my toes, which I thought was normal- like if I dropped a biro on the floor - but apparently it's not that common at all.i don't have very long toes, either. A former boyfriend could tuck his toes under, like making a foot fist, but my toe phalanxes just aren't long enough.

I can also flare my nostrils.

ShinyPrettyThings87 · 13/08/2024 15:20

I can. My partner calls me monkey toes 😁

JumpinJellyfish · 13/08/2024 15:21

I thought it wasn’t possible to move your second and third toes individually because they were on the same tendon or something like that?!

I can move my big toe, the middle 3 as a group, and my little toe. Can flare my nostrils and wiggle my ears. Cannot do that tongue roll thing! We

MyOtherCarisAVauxhallZafira · 13/08/2024 15:23

I can, but when I was younger my brother used to call me finger toes. To be fair my toes do look like fingers.

Blackcats7 · 13/08/2024 15:25

I read that article and tried but same as you can only move big toe independently.

whoateallthecookies · 13/08/2024 15:38

I can move big toe, little toe, and the one next to it. I can stack my toes on top of each other (on my right foot at least). I am weird (in many ways.....)

Keepingongoing · 13/08/2024 17:09

I remember teaching myself to extend my little toes when I was a kid. I tried for ages, wiggling the toe with my hand, before ‘ feeling’ the muscle and since then, I’ve always been able to extend them.

Sadly I didn’t carry on the toe flexibility training programme onto my other toes…well, I was only 8!

That article was interesting.

PiggieWig · 13/08/2024 17:11

I have freaky feet, as I’m hypermobile.

I can move my big and little toes independently and do a kind of Mexican wave with the three middle ones.

GalileoHumpkins · 13/08/2024 17:15

I can move all my toes independently and make circles with my little toes. Sadly, the rest of my body is not that flexible.

dontforgetme · 13/08/2024 17:40

Big toes and little toes I can. My little toes seem to have a mind of their own Envy God I hate feet.
