...that still works? Ours is a hand whisk (one of those with twin beaters) which was part of a mixing set that my DM won in a work raffle in 1983.

Sewing Machine from 1979 I think.
Microwave from 1986.

1990s · 13/08/2024 00:48

Sewing machine from 70s
Electric drill from 80s

Time40 · 13/08/2024 00:49

I've got quite a few things from the 70s, and some table lamps and an iron from the 60s.

Theoldwoman · 13/08/2024 00:49

I have two.

My crockpot and an electric beater. I got both in 1991 for my 21st birthday.

Time40 · 13/08/2024 00:49

... oh god yes, sewing machines. I've got my mum's from the early 50s.

Mumandcarer80 · 13/08/2024 00:53

TV must be at least 10 years old.

AdoraBell · 13/08/2024 00:55

My late father’s coffee grinder.

Cornflowers35 · 13/08/2024 00:58

I also have a hand whisk with two beaters, although mine isn't as old. I got it in 96 when I bought my first home.

If I recall it came with a kettle, sandwich maker and one other item. Part of a gift set from the mortgage company.

All came in very handy.

My Singer Featherweight sewing machine that my grandmother acquired in 1936. It still sews a perfect seam. Whenever I take it in to be serviced, the shop always tries to buy it from me.

CalicoPusscat · 13/08/2024 01:02

Me! (If you count the electrical impulses around my heart)

Aside from that a pair of Nicky Clarke hair straighteners getting on for 20 years old, must dispose of them

Willowkins · 13/08/2024 01:04

Dehumidifier from the 80s. Still works a treat.

MrsAvocet · 13/08/2024 01:06

We've got an electric clock from the early 50s that belonged to DH's grandparents. It kind of works but doesn't keep very good time so it's just for show really. Probably the oldest fully functional thing we have the toasted sandwich maker my brother gave me when I started university in 1984, which is still in regular use. DH still has a stereo system that he bought second hand in the late 80s so that is probably a similar vintage. We've also got a fridge and a freezer both bought when we moved house in 1994 that are still going strong but we seem unable to keep dishwashers or washing machines for more than a few years!

NoBinturongsHereMate · 13/08/2024 01:11

Oldest one I definitely know the date of is the Kenwood Chefette - 1972. I suspect the electric hand whisk is a little older, but can't be certain.

@Mumandcarer80 mines 14 years old & it was second hand then!😂😂

@UnctuousUnicorns the above tv in daily use, but overall probably a record player I got as a child in the 70's

HarrietSchulenberg · 13/08/2024 02:12

Electrical item would be my food processor which was my grandma's from about 1984 but I have my other grandma's hand cranked Singer sewing machine which was made in 1901 and works beautifully. I also have a Janome electric machine from the early 1980s which works well, too.

We were playing our Nintendo 64 last night. It's nearly 28 years old - we lived in the US at the time and it came out Sept 1996.

It's been used so much and we have had so much fun with it. It's incredible. The original games are still so playable too.

When my adult kids come home we always have to have some N64 sessions - Marioparty, Tetris Bomberman

MeYouAndAQuestion · 13/08/2024 02:23

BTW I do know an N64 isn't an appliance 😅

Aroastdinnerisnotahumanright · 13/08/2024 03:21

Knockoff nutribullit, about 6 years old. It's starting to wobble a bit despite light usage.

My parents had a hoover from the 1940s but replaced with a miele (which still works perfectly) about 25 years ago. The also have a blender that's 40 years old and works perfectly despite heavybusage. Family friends have a fridge probably from the 50s they use just for drinks.

LittleYellowCloth · 13/08/2024 03:24

My Nan’s Kenwood mixer. It must be 40+ years old.

Emeraldpies · 13/08/2024 04:08

Kenwood hand mixer that my in-laws got as a wedding present in 1972.

my radio alarm clock, 1981, i say it works, the light shines, and shows the time, but i dont use the alarm or the radio

I was thinking yesterday (when considering decluttering my bedside table) that I wonder how many other people still use a radio alarm. Mine is fairly compact (about 5" cubed) but still takes up a bit of space and I use the alarm every day (I never have used the radio, I don't like listening in the mornings). It has 4 preset times, so all I do every night is choose one and press the button and it has another button to switch when the clocks change, so simple to use. I can't actually read the clock on it though due to bad eyesight. It's probably 20 years old.

I think my oldest might be my hammer drill, DDad bought me it as a housewarming present in the late 90s

TwinklyNight · 13/08/2024 06:14

A reel to reel recorder from the mid 80's. I think that is the oldest.

MustBeThursday · 13/08/2024 06:19

DD has my old lamp in her bedroom which is used every night - bought from ikea in 1999 and has been in use since then everywhere I've lived.

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 13/08/2024 06:21

GHDs from 2005.
