Got home to find someone in my parking space

Popped out to the library earlier and came back to find a random car in my space. It's not a proper driveway but it's the end of the lane down the side of my house, my detached garage is next to the house at the end of the lane.

We have houses that back onto the lane (adjacent to our building) and I'm sure it's one of these houses that the owner of the car has gone into, their visitors have parked there a couple of times before.

I've just parked up their arse and gone into the house, waiting on the bell ringing. Was reluctant to do this as our neighbours have right of way over the lane for their pwn vehicles but it's a visitor to their house, so fuck it.

No it is mine. The way the neighbours park means they have right of way to get in and out of their own spaces at the rear of their houses. This car isn't in the neighbours space, it's in mine.

What you're saying is clear. Sadly, the performative competitive dimness that prevails here will require you to explain a dozen times with "hilarious" demands for a diagram.

Why haven’t you put your car in your garage?

@HotCrossBunplease

bevause a) it was built in the 50's & my car was not (& it's only a focus) & b) I don't want to.

ok by you??

🙄🙄

Sidebeforeself · 12/08/2024 20:39

@mrsdineen2 Performative competitive dimness? Oooh get you ,putting us all in our places!

harriethoyle · 12/08/2024 20:39

this would really piss me off @ReacherSaidNothing - stay parked behind the CFs and have a wine!

Good for you!!!! Do not move your car!

AnneElliott · 12/08/2024 20:40

So they're parked in front of your garage? So if your car was in there then you wouldn't be able to get it out? If so that's massively cheeky and unreasonable of them.

Are you sure it's your place? Have you checked the deeds? How very entitled of you to claim the place.

HotCrossBunplease · 12/08/2024 20:16

What sort of $?

I’m in New Zealand.

Fir (I think) the fourth time, yes we own it. We only moved in this year so the deeds were very recently checked by me. The right hand section of lane is highlighted on the plans as being ours but neighbours have right of way to get their cars in and out. Nothing about their pals actually parking on it

Perhaps you should just have put that someone has parked in front of your garage!

Scammersarescum · 12/08/2024 20:46

Even if you put signs up believe me, ignorant entitled fuckers will still park there.

My factory car park has huge letters on the ground and a sign on every space to say it is private. Today I've got back to work with heavy supplies and had to park further away because some wanker was in my spot, she had gone off for a beauty treatment. I saw her heading back but couldn't get out in time to tell her not to fo it again.

Came out later to another car parked up. No doubt off to the same day spa which has no parking.

It's a massive issue, these people block the access into the car park, the access to the main door, they prevent wagons turning round. Thers no where for our own visiyors to park. When you confront them, they always say they didn't realise. There is no way at all that you can miss the signs. None.

I've ordered some no parking stickers to put on their cars. Which the police said is fine to do.

If that doesn't work I'm going to sign up to a parking scheme where you photograph them, send the pics in to the company and they fine them.

Op you've caught the wrong end of the stick here entirely. But I do understand tbf.

She’s said quite a few times now that she owns the land - neighbours have right of way to get their cars in and out. Doesn’t entitle them to park on it.

TappyGilmore · 12/08/2024 20:48

I would totally agree with just blocking them in but in my case, I couldn’t do that without blocking other neighbours also who weren’t anything to do with this. In hindsight I probably should have, all of the neighbours would recognise my car so could have told me to move if they needed me to.

localnotail · 12/08/2024 20:49

Why would anyone park in front of a garage? open you garage and make a lot of noise about needing access

BananaLambo · 12/08/2024 20:49

OP, you should go off to the nearest pub and have a few large glasses of wine.

viques · 12/08/2024 20:50

Ilovemyshed · 12/08/2024 20:29

So they parked in front of your garage? So just put a polite sign up on the garage that denotes it as "Garage to xxx House, No parking, Access required at all times"

Considering how the OP described the garage I would make a sign saying.

”KEEP CLEAR! Dangerous structure.KEEP CLEAR! Condemned Building! KEEP CLEAR”

🙂

BlackBean2023 · 12/08/2024 20:51

Why not put a sign on your garage door that says - no parking: garage in use.

We have a similar sign on one near us.

S1lverCandle · 12/08/2024 20:51

If they have a right of way over the land, should you be blocking it with your car?

BruFord · 12/08/2024 20:52

But… directly in front of someone’s garage doors is not public highway. Would you, as a competent road user, ever park your car right up to someone’s garage door?

Exactly @Ivehearditbothways , I’d never park in front of someone else’s garage! We live in a terrace and our garages are at the end of the gardens. Occasionally some stinker will park in front of a garage and they get told off.

We have the same problem with old garages, OP, they’re very narrow and only a small car will fit. Some neighbors have turned them into parking pads.

marniemae · 12/08/2024 20:53

Couldn't you just park somewhere else? I cant imagine getting so worked up about a parking space

ReacherSaidNothing · 12/08/2024 20:53

S1lverCandle · 12/08/2024 20:51

If they have a right of way over the land, should you be blocking it with your car?

Maybe because it could get them to actually think "hey, it might be a good idea to tell our visitors not to park there in future"?

So you wouldn’t have a problem with someone parking on your land, in front of your garage ?
