Found someone's personal belongings but can't get hold of them

I've found the person on FB but I think my messages are going to 'other folder' and not them.
I've tried messaging a few of their contacts too with no response
And one of the items was a bank card so I transfered them a penny with a message that I've found their card and another penny with my phone number but no contact.

There is an address in the items but I don't know if they still live there (as the address is on a card issued 8 years ago) and I'd have to walk there and it's quite a trek.

Any more ideas?

Phone the bank that the card is with?

Phone the bank that the card is with?

They won't give me any information and I doubt I could ask them to 'pass a message on'

It's 5 quite important items.

I would post it to the address.
They most likely know they have lost it and cancelled cards.

SaintHonoria · 12/08/2024 09:33

Get a taxi to the address?

scotlandscold · 12/08/2024 09:34

Put a post on Facebook and tag them? Add them as a friend ?
As Pp said call bank and they may pass a message on

Hazeby · 12/08/2024 09:34

Where did you find them? Because that’s where they’ll start looking

Cyclistmumgrandma · 12/08/2024 09:34

Found a wallet with bank card in the road last year. Phoned the bank and they said they would pass on the message. Alternatively hand into police.

cansu · 12/08/2024 09:34

Just hand them in at the police station. Send a note by post to the address saying where they are.

MonsteraMama · 12/08/2024 09:35

I'd just hand it in to the police, you've done your best to contact them.

Gymmum82 · 12/08/2024 09:35

Is there any Facebook groups locally? I’d post on there with a picture of the items and something like anyone know x I have found all their things and struggling to get them back to them
Bound to be someone on there who knows them. Our local town fb groups has loads of posts of lost keys/phones/bank cards etc

redskydarknight · 12/08/2024 09:36

Lots of people post things like "Does anyone know John Smith? I found his bank card" on our local FB group. You could do that?

Ineffable23 · 12/08/2024 09:36

Just hand them in at the police station. Send a note by post to the address saying where they are.

This is the most sensible option.

Wahine24 · 12/08/2024 09:36

I'm sure I was told to put the card on the post box, but I'm not sure what happens to it (?)
Most ppl when realising their cards is missing would cancel it, so I wouldn't worry too much.
You could try taking it to the bank that issues it, but again I think they just destroy them
Just reread I thought it was just a bank card. Police station is probably the best solution

My bank passed a message to me in similar circumstances a few years ago

AgileGreenSeal · 12/08/2024 09:37

Hand it all into the nearest police station immediately.

Yellowbananasarebetterthangreen · 12/08/2024 09:37

I suspect they arent on fb very often so thats why they arent seeing the messages. I would try posting in local fb groups asking if anyone knows "Jane Smith" and can get in contact with them for you because you've got her stuff.

mytuppennyworth · 12/08/2024 09:38

hand it in to their bank. I've done that, and had it done for me - I got my wallet back from the bank.

Yellowbananasarebetterthangreen · 12/08/2024 09:40

Returning them to the police station in my town would be a pain - the town centre police station is shut. The one they actually use is on the edge of town, 3 mile walk. And the police wont do anything with them anyway - especially as the owner of the stuff has probably cancelled them by now anyway. Id go with what I suggested above, try finding friends or family of hers via local fb groups.

I found a walker and called the bank. They did pass the message onto their customer who then got in touch with me

The bank absolutely should pass a message on. It's their customer after all.

I probably would go to the police too, you have done enough already. That's the place it's probably reported lost so they hopefully will already have details.

farfromideal · 12/08/2024 09:41

Sorry. Wallet not walker

Gumbo · 12/08/2024 09:45

Definitely this, it's not just their bank card it's various other possessions presumably.

I recently found money in the street and handed it in got it back after a couple of weeks when nobody claimed it

Copadelcarmen · 12/08/2024 09:46

I would try a few local Facebook groups first, using the address on any ID to pin down location

i only say this because i once had an absolute nightmare getting stuff that had been handed back into police and if you are an honest person, I’d rather just cut out the middle man

BiscuityBoyle · 12/08/2024 09:48

As I understand it, the police don’t deal with lost property anymore.

I found a wallet in the shop I worked in a few years ago and called the bank and they called the customer.
I found the contents of a wallet a few years ago and put it on Nextdoor. That was collected too.
It’s worth posting it on Facebook selling sites. Someone will know them.

Well of course they aren’t going to give you any information. I would have thought they’d pass the info on that someone has found their card.

Take it to the police.
