Greek island too.

Nowhere.
Maintaining a pool is very expensive and quite time consuming. The amount of chemicals you have to pour into it is frankly grim ( and I am not a green fanatic).

When we lived in France, pools were a huge problem for anyone who wasn’t
a full time resident. Once they had exhausted the goodwill of their neighbours (quite quickly) they had to pay for maintenance which was not cheap, and not always great for the security of the property.

And a lot of local councils in European countries are taxing swimming pools now, because of water shortages and environmental concerns ( and because taxing rich people is always more popular, especially foreigners)

What a joy-sucking post

Menorca

Getting back to the point of the thread, so far we've got:

Greek Islands
Puglia
Menorca

Any other ideas?

Weird @Idontjetwashthefucker you have to pay maintenance for maintenance in the uk. If you can afford a second home you can presumably afford tax on a pool. Can aways have a saltwater pool, that can be tanked in.

Op, Ibiza.

halava · 11/08/2024 15:16

South of France. Microclimate is great. Yes, hot in Summer but glorious outside of the Grand Vacances season, That's when you go back home for a long visit lol.. Definitely no pool, that makes your budget go further also.

If you are UK citizen you probably know that there are restrictions on the amount of time you can spend in EU, unless you have a visa or residency.

But there are other places outside the EU, however France is easy to get to and the grub is good too.

If you don't mind me asking, why Ibiza?

I've never been but always have had the impression it's a party island for youngsters. Or maybe I'm just stuck in the 90s 😂

I'd first look to see where your closest airport flies from then go from there. I'd buy in Gran Canaria for pretty much all year sunshine and relaxed lifestyle. I love Puerto de Mogan and Puerto Rico.

Newsenmum · 11/08/2024 15:20

Is it for you to enjoy or rent out? Will it be a purely relaxing place or do you like to travel to other places nearby? I’d make sure the closest airport you could get to from your closest airport eg direct flights from Gatwick if that’s where you go.

I love the south of France or northern spain. Or perhaps Portugal.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 11/08/2024 15:22

Somewhere I could drive to, so probably Lot in southern France. It’s not my favourite destination but I’d want to be able to bundle in the car and take what I wanted.

MyveryownFlyingSaucer · 11/08/2024 15:23

To enjoy and be used by family & friends really.

Relaxing but not too far from life

I think I'd spend my money on fabulous luxury holidays to lots of different places rather than buy somewhere.

BUT, southern Italy would be fabulous if you got the right spot. We've neighbours with a place in Majorca that they spend a lot of time in too. I think it's quite rural rather than near a resort. The extended family goes a lot.

Roryno · 11/08/2024 15:27

Tuscany. In the hills between Lucca and Pisa (which has an airport).

Only a tiny part of Ibiza is a party place. The rest is beautiful and tranquil

Am I boring if I say Devon? Somewhere near Dartmouth would suit me :-)

whatthejuice · 11/08/2024 15:29

SE France 🇫🇷 not paying as much as SW France
Extraordinary landscapes
Beautiful provicinal French towns
Easy access to Northern Spain
Served by multiple airports from UK (Toulouse, Beziers, Montpellier) and a quick 1hr30 flight time
Food, wine

Got back from Ibiza from a family holiday yesterday. Beautiful island. Not just a party island, and to be fair, they are putting strict rules in place on the islands now.

TheChippendenSpook · 11/08/2024 15:30

Somewhere in Florida. It's my dream!

Do those places all let you fill a pool?

longdistanceclaraclara · 11/08/2024 15:31

@MyveryownFlyingSaucer it's stunning, the villas in the hills are beautiful, short flight, beautiful beaches, great food / restaurants. There's only a couple of party spots the rest is very different.

Just don't take an easy jet / Ryan air flight out on a Friday and back on a Sunday...
