Hand infected (Warning, gross photos)

I do have another thread on this but I've been on antibiotics since Thursday and it's just getting worse.

It's still hot and new puss filled blisters are appearing.

Shouldn't the antibiotics have kicked in by now?

It's so sore and embarrassing

Apologies, haven’t RTFT (phone browser won’t load), but did the doctor consider a bad case of hand, foot, and mouth? It’s rife at the moment and can look like that when severe or infected!

Or I have Trimovate from Doctor if that's better?

Trimovate got rid of my pompholyx so I think whack some on!

Moving forward, I have to avoid all liquid hand washes especially anti bacterial ones, when I switched to bars of soap I never got it again. Are you using anything like that?

He didn't mention it

I'm still quite in the dark.

Fucibet is good stuff OP, surprised they didn't give you that to start with. They used to give it for impetigo, which also has the little blisters. Wonder if he thinks it's that?

He asked if anyone in my family has diabetes as it looks like a rash people who are genetically prone to diabetes gets??

But I can't remember the name he said.

Probably granuloma annulare, although it doesn't look like that to me. I have a similar type of rash, erythema annulare centrifugum, and was misdiagnosed by GPs for years.

Never heard of that but I'm always prescribed Fucibet when I get infected eczema (thankfully, not for a few years now).

If you can resist the itch - seriously, tape some cotton gloves to your hands if you can bear it - then it should clear up fairly quickly now. That cream is great.

Looks like a combination of things in the last photo- pompholyx , ring worm and an infection. Good luck with it. Hopefully turn a corner soon.

farleysrusks · 13/08/2024 17:32

I’m a HCP but was shocked by those photos. You poor thing.

I queried ring worm but he said not.

I've only read your posts so apologies if this has already been suggested but I had similar. I scratched the he'll out of an insect bite which then looked infected so I popped Savlon on, which seemed to make everything flare. Was prescribed hydrocortisone which did nothing, then betnovate, still no improvement then after a face to face with a locum she prescribed eumovate, QV moisturising cream, and ketoconazole as she thought I may have introduced a fungal infection with the scratching, along with strict instructions about what to put on when, and a suggestion I get some white cotton gloves. It took time but this combo did the trick.

Cornettoninja · 14/08/2024 09:02

Sorry you’re not improving yet @PIPpityDoodah. I know you say it’s not particularly painful but it looks sore and uncomfortable.

I’m really pleased your dr took a swab. Any idea on how long results will take to come back? I presume they have to try and grow something from the swab?

PrincessofWells · 14/08/2024 09:25

Pustular psoriasis?

PIPpityDoodah · 14/08/2024 09:59

I don't want to jinx it but this morning I feel like it's turning a corner for the better ... 🤞

That does look better. Mine starts to flatten and fade like that as it improves, and the blisters dry out.

Mespher · 14/08/2024 10:07

Yes it does look a bit better and healing, don't scratch the new blisters that were coming up and moisture them well and hopefully it will be ok.

MandUs · 14/08/2024 10:10

It does look better.
My first instinct was that it looks quite fungal.

Only just seen this post but quickly skimming over it as you say definitely looks better but if it goes back like before you need an urgent referral to a dermatologist.

Cornettoninja · 14/08/2024 10:35

Oh wow, something is definitely happening in the right way!

If you do feel inclined to share the results from your swab I’d love to know what it’s shown.

I definitely will.

I have to admit that yesterday after seeing the Dr I did pop all the puss filled blisters and pushed as much of it out as I could and it does seem to have helped

I also have cotton gloves arriving today so I can finally get some cleaning done (they're for inside my rubber gloves)

OP posts:
Mespher · 14/08/2024 10:47

When mine used to flare up I always had to wear the cotton liners, as just gloves can sometimes make your hands sweat, making it worse.

Yes, this is the issue.

Obviously I don't want to get any chemicals on my hand but I wore the rubber gloves about a week ago to do the bathroom and ot absolutely made things worse, my hand was a wet mess and really flared up afterwards.

itsgettingweird · 14/08/2024 11:12

I get dyscoric excema too.

My foot ended up like your hand one year and went all wet like and blistered.

My hands were covered.

I found soaking them in Dead Sea salt helped the itching (a little!).

What cleared mine up was when I went on holiday. Although I'm not sure a week in Spain is the cheapest option 😂

Floralnomad · 14/08/2024 11:15

That does look heaps better today , but I agree with a pp that if it flares / spreads further try to get in to see a dermatologist if only because they can prescribe things that GPs either can’t or won’t unless a consultant has done so first .
