Hand infected (Warning, gross photos)

I do have another thread on this but I've been on antibiotics since Thursday and it's just getting worse.

It's still hot and new puss filled blisters are appearing.

Shouldn't the antibiotics have kicked in by now?

It's so sore and embarrassing

I agree that it really needs looking at asap and if A&E isn’t an option you need to get in front of a doctor today another way.

Agreed. Op, you really shouldn't wait another few hours let alone days.

You really need to get it seen by someone in person, and quickly. It's considerably worse than the photos you originally shared with the doctor.

Ginkypig · 11/08/2024 13:06

If the first photos are the most recent then whatever treatment has been prescribed isn’t working so you need to follow up either at a&e or another medical professional.

skin infections can become very serious even leading to things like sepsis. It is very important you don’t just leave this and hope it will turn a corner.

Snoopysimaginaryfriend · 11/08/2024 13:07

That looks like dishydrotic eczema that is now infected. Think it’s also called something like pompholyx.

I get it on my hands and feet. The first time it appeared I didn’t know what it was, GP refused to see me in person and just told me to use hydrocortisone. It ended up infected, feet so swollen I couldn’t put on shoes. When I went to urgent care the doctor laughed at the GP and said ‘would you use a watering can to fight a forest fire’. I ended up with oral antibiotics, antibiotic cream and three different levels of steroid cream.

I can understand why you don’t want to go to A&E, but in this area we have an urgent GP service attached to the usual A&E. As far as I know it’s appointment only and arranged via 111.
Could you check if there is anything similar in your area?

Allthehorsesintheworld · 11/08/2024 13:11

PIPpityDoodah · 11/08/2024 12:42

No.

The day the small spots appeared I cleaned out my washing machine drawer with lots of layers of fabric softener and I used bleach without gloves.

So I thought it was that.

I can’t come into contact with fabric conditioner but I’ve never reacted that badly.
There’s two things going on. What caused it and it’s infected. I really think it’s a hospital job, maybe skin scrapings to determine what it is.

Try 111. My local hospitals have a GP within A&E if that makes sense and you get a timed appointment to see the GP in attendance.

Skaer · 11/08/2024 13:13

If you won’t go to a&e or a walk in clinic I think it’s worth ringing 111 you may get given an out of hours drs appts who can have a look at it today.

Marinel · 11/08/2024 13:13

I have had dishydrotic eczema and the first photo looks similar to how mine started. Mine spread and got a lot worse, although it didn't get infected so did not look as bad as yours. My GP failed to diagnose it but a dermatologist recognised it instantly, it needed very strong steroid ointment.

Floralnomad · 11/08/2024 13:14

You really should ring the ooh dr today or go to minor injuries .

LittleYellowCloth · 11/08/2024 13:16

I think it’s a chemical burn from the bleach which has become infected. That is serious. You should go to A&E.

parababe · 11/08/2024 13:18

Looks a little bit like Palmoplantar Pustulitis (related to Psoriasis) I have this, but not as bad as yours. If your feeling completely well in yourself, I wouldn't necessarily head to A&E, but I do think you should see GP tomorrow.... If it is this, I was initially given a Urea cream which worked wonders! Good luck

PIPpityDoodah · 11/08/2024 13:19

Called 111 and they're getting an out of hours Dr to phone me and possibly make an appointment.
Need to wait for them to call me back.

Looks nasty, what cleaning product? My niece had horrible life changing burns from a few drops of caustic oven cleaner that needed treatment at a burns unit.

I would be tempted to get checked out at OOH or A&E if it is getting worse.

Yes this is what I thought it was at first and I do get it occasionally on my fingers (the normal pompholyx spots, not this)

Have you started any new medication in the last few weeks?

Agree, looks a lot like giant hogweed rash but also some drugs can cause this.

Irridescantshimmmer · 11/08/2024 13:20

Your immune system is taking a hammering there OP.

I suggest you go to your nearest walk in clinic, and tell them about the bleach and fabric softener drawer you had been cleaning out as this may help the hcps find a antidote.

You may want to look up the ingredients list of the actual fabric softener that came into contact with your skin as this may also help.

Hope this helps

PIPpityDoodah · 11/08/2024 13:21

I threw the fabric softener away just in case, it was fucking up my washing machine anyways.

Is there a walk in centre near you OP?
Are you on Flucloxacillin?

HighlandCowbag · 11/08/2024 13:23

That looks so painful 😒 and v infected.

Bordador · 11/08/2024 13:26

Looks like impetigo

I'm pleased you've called 111, but it's important to remember that they haven't seen the photos. You could be waiting hours for a call back, and that's if they actually call back. I really think you need to get yourself down to A+E and show someone in person just how bad it is.

Wahine24 · 11/08/2024 13:30

Could you pop to a pharmacist ? Mine has a dispensing chemist who is fantastic even if you can't go now there should be a late chemist on your area.
I'm allergic to all sorts but never had a reaction like that ( line cleaner, bleach etc!)
Does it hurt? Weep? Itch? Smell?
Hold you get sorted

Crucible · 11/08/2024 13:30

Looks like pompholyx to me. It's fucking agony and needs attention. Under diagnosed, regularly dismissed as ordinary eczema. Ask me how I know..

Are you taking antihistamines? You could probably take 2 per day until the blistering stops. I suffer terribly with insect bites (which look similar to this).

FloofPaws · 11/08/2024 13:45

That's got a lot worse since you sent the pix to the GP so
Glad you're getting attention. It may be fungal, but whatever it is, looks like it needs a professional to investigate!
Did any swabs get taken at any point ? Assuming not but mention to the doctor if you did

HowToSaveAWife · 11/08/2024 13:47

Bleach without gloves?! That's a chemical burn that's now infected. You need urgent medical attention.
