Good Morning All! What are you all up to today?

I'm just drinking my first cuppa of the day, in my kitchen spot, while I wait for the washer to finish spinning. I'll pop another load in & hang the towels when it does.

The kittens are bouncing around like nutters this morning, playing with every toy they have, and trying to kill my roses 🙄 so far one's lost it's head and another has a snapped stem...don't think I'll buy more flowers for a while 🙈

We had planned to head to Meadowhall today but I'm thinking about going in the week instead, when we have nothing planned, to break it up a bit 🤔

If we don't go today, it'll just be a slow, moochy, kind of day at home. I had started a deep clean & clear out then stalled with being away so much so maybe I'll carry on with that - I'll see what the girls think first.

What about all of you? 🙂

We’ve just had breakfast of proper coffee, bacon sandwiches and the bake at home cinnamon swirls for the kids.

Going to get dressed in a moment and go to the park until the shops open - we want to go to our local retail park and test out some new mattresses. DC want to go to Smyths for stuff to make slime (are we not over slime yet?!)

We’ll come back for the youngests nap and I’ll make a sausage and mushroom casserole for tea.

Itdistractsfromthenow · 11/08/2024 09:22

Slow start, then taking kids out for a bit, probably to a local National Trust place they like. Need to get back at least mid afternoon to get some stuff done ( life admin). Want to read booklet for my son’s new school and plan what days I’ll buy the uniform etc. Then tea, bit of tv maybe and bed.

JohnLapsleyParlabane · 11/08/2024 09:25

DH is taking the children to the cricket today so I'm about to have 6 whole hours to myself. Currently trying to decide between deep cleaning the spare room/my wfh space. Or bedrooms. Think I may have to go with bedrooms because the beds need changing anyway.
But first, as soon as they're gone, a cuppa in total silence.

L3KI · 11/08/2024 09:26

We are off to church soon. My DS likes the kids group. Then we will probably go for a stroll around our local town. Pick a few bits up for tea.

I'm meeting my baby nephew for the first time tomorrow (had to postpone due to the riots yesterday). I'm so excited.

FoleyHuck · 11/08/2024 09:28

Hello! It's set to be HOT where we are today and our 2 month old doesn't like the heat so we're holed up in our bedroom which is the coolest room in the house with some toys and a fan, ready to ride the day out the best we can.

Wish us luck! Confused

Have a lovely day all.

Crunchymum · 11/08/2024 09:29

On a go slow this morning.

Waiting for shopping to arrive, so then we'll pack this away and make a plan for the day.

It's going to be 27c later (up to 32c tomorrow 😮) so we need something cool.

We have some really good splash fountains near us but everyone has the same idea. We may pop there for an hour later and just take swimmers and a towel.

There is a local nature reserve with lots of wooded / shaded areas and the cafe does amazing cake so we could head there and do the splash park after.

It's so hard to keep cool when it gets really hot. Maybe we'll just walk about the refrigerated aisles of the supermarket 😂

Dinner will be Greek salad, pitta, humous and falafel.

FoleyHuck · 11/08/2024 09:31

@Crunchymum If it didn't involve getting into a baking car afterwards we might have taken a jaunt to M&S food for the day a look around as it's always about 2 degrees in there!

Kim82 · 11/08/2024 09:33

Good morning everyone. It’s lovely and quiet here this morning as it’s just me awake in the house. Dd19 is at work and everyone else is still asleep so I’m enjoying my second cup of tea in peace.

I’ve no firm plans for today but it’s due to be 25 degrees here this afternoon so I’ll probably sit out in the sun for a few hours. I’ll also stick a load of washing on once dh gets up and I can get to the washing basket in our bedroom. We also need to go to Costco to fill up the car and get our monthly items too but I might just send dh to do that.

I’m doing roast chicken for tea tonight then I’ll carry on with my book I think and have a nice, relaxed evening before bed.

toastedcrumpetsrock · 11/08/2024 09:35

Lazy morning with breakfast in bed just finished, some washing to do and going to start clearing the playroom with the plan to do a little each day this week, roast chicken later and maybe wine in the garden then some tv

gingercat02 · 11/08/2024 09:36

I'm just finishing my breakfast and coffee, on the sofa, with the cat. Everyone else is in bed.
I'm off to my PiYo class soon. Need to do some weeding this afternoon, but it looks like a lovely day, so that shouldn't be too much of a hardship 🌞
No real plans, I like a chilled Sunday

FlorencenotRatchet · 11/08/2024 09:48

Morning @lucysmam and all. Happy Sunday.
Feeling slightly fragile this morning after some cocktails last night. Just having tea and toast in bed and then will nip to the supermarket to pick up something for dinner.
I'm planning a lazy day on the sofa with my book. Sometimes we just need to step off the ride.
Have a great day everyone.

mondaytosunday · 11/08/2024 09:53

Morning! Just had first cup of tea and watched one of my fave YouTubers who did a live 3 hours ago (another time zone). Going to make an egg and avocado on toast in a minute.
Went to party last night (rare evening outing) so feel like a domestic day! Need to weed and treat my front garden which is frankly letting the street down! My neighbour who works more than me and is also away a lot takes care of hers beautifully so need to up my game! I always admire the front gardens on my street while walking the dogs to the park (typical London terrace of late Victorian houses) and some are really pretty.
Made yummy soup yesterday which will last us four days for lunch, home made burgers and wedges tonight for dinner.

Thurien · 11/08/2024 09:53

Some noises woke me at 4.02 so I have been up since then investigating. It was nothing to worry about, so I made a tea and sat on a chair outside waiting for dawn.

Dawn is the best time of day. I took some pruners and dead headed a small buddleia bush in the twilight as the birds started to stir. They are quieter now, having raised their broods there is no need for the cacophonic Spring dawn chorus to draw them all together for mating rituals.

There is little food in the house, bar some salads and fruit so it was fresh cherries for breakfast and a piece of feta. I am far too busy to go out to the shops so lunch will be anchovies, mixed leaves and the last two or three biscuits left in the packet, the only carbs on show apart from some dog biscuits which I shall pass on. I could murder a kit-kat.

On my third cup of tea now before I do some work for a client. The spotted woodpecker has just called and as I raise my head I see it darting across the field into the folds below. Yesterday the farmer came and cut down the flowers he was paid to grow there. The scent was an invigorating mixture of chlorophyl and sweet flowers.

This afternoon I will feed the tomatoes and thin out the onions. All told there are probably 300 small green fruits of various size and a week of sun should turn them red. The weather forecast disagrees.

Posting on MN for the first time today. Saw this thread and thought it would be a good place to start.

Cheersmedears123 · 11/08/2024 09:56

Morning! I’m having a very slow start to my day. I noticed DH slept badly last night so I left him to lie in, although DS is well and truly settled into the summer holidays and is waking up much later than usual. I’m onto my second coffee and need to go and collect my car shortly, as I left it in the pub car park last night after a few glasses of wine.

This afternoon we’re off to a friend’s house for a bbq and they’ll get the paddling pool out for the kids. I need to decide what food we’re taking, maybe some chicken skewers and salad. We’ll have a chilled evening at home later and will catch up on more of the Olympics. We’re back to work tomorrow after being off last week so I plan to milk my Sunday as much as possible!

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 11/08/2024 10:04

Good morning @Lucysmam and others from a sunny central Scotland. It's to be the best day of the weekend, so I shall be mostly in the garden. I've had three coffees and a croissant this morning. I have been to Aldi and stocked up the fridge and the cupboards. I had left my phone with shopping list at home and was pleasantly surprised that I remembered everything except two items which weren't crucial. Shortly I'll go out and water all the pots. Then a small ironing to do. I might wash down the kitchen cupboard doors if I can be bothered. Later I'll visit mum in hospital. Then it'll be steak fajitas for dinner. Enjoy your day

Buddleoo · 11/08/2024 10:06

I don't think it's going to be a very big day for us today. Do some washing and sort out all the stuff that needs tip/charity shopped ready for dh to do next week.
Dd wants to show me a new park she found with dh so we'll probably try and go there too.

Thislittlekitten · 11/08/2024 10:14

Morning all. I had an early start getting DC up. They are both away for the day with different family members.
Had breakfast outside while the cats and dog pottered.

DH just up so we are planning on taking the dog somewhere.

Bbq for tea tonight then early night. Start my new job tomorrow.

lucysmam · 11/08/2024 10:21

Good luck for tomorrow @Thislittlekitten 🍀

@Thurien your day sounds wonderfully relaxed 😊

I've been up and spoken to the girls; they're happy to go to Meadowhall in the week, so moochy day it is 🥳 I'm just off to hang washing then I'll potter for the day & deep clean the downstairs loo. Need to declutter as I go, and have a small pile to list on Vinted.

We just got back from being away so I’ll be unpacking/washing etc

CoffeandTiaMaria · 11/08/2024 10:43

Good morning everyone, there’s high clouds here but it’s already warm.
I have been outside pottering around deadheading roses, cogitating where to put the big pots of flowers when the summerhouse is finished, photographing my gloriosa lily, enjoying the peace and quiet and generally not getting anything much done!
DH has just gone off with the dog, they’ll be back in an hour or two, I’m going to sit outside and do some needlework or crocheting and listen to podcasts.
Fridge rummage for lunch, I cba to cook but there’s plenty to eat in the house.

Peridot1 · 11/08/2024 10:47

Good morning @lucysmam and everyone. I missed the thread yesterday somehow.

Welcome @Thurien - what a lovely first post! Really enjoyed reading it. We are hoping for some sun for our tomatoes too.

Lazy morning here although I have been up,ages. Had tea and some home made sourdough that our neighbour made for us yesterday with honey. Have emptied the dishwasher and washed and hung out the mattress protector from the spare room. My best friend arrives on Saturday from Australia so I’m trying to get ready for that and as we are having work done in the house it’s all a bit of a mess and stuff is everywhere! But I’m soooo excited I don’t mind. Lots to do this week!

Another wash is on. I have cleared through the bottles/jars in the door of the fridge and got rid of the out of date ones.

About to go and take the covers off the outdoor furniture. Gorgeous day here. Home made burgers on the bbq for dinner later with new potatoes and coleslaw. And probably sausages. DH can’t seem to bbq without cooking sausages!

RabbitsRock · 11/08/2024 11:31

Thurien your post reminds me of “ Miss Read” books or “ An Edwardian Lady’s Country Garden”. Really lovely to read.

Topsy44 · 11/08/2024 11:32

Good morning Lucysmam and All!

A moochy day here for me and DD too. We’re actually still in our pjs watching a film - getting into the true spirit of the holidays!

I do need to do some hoovering this afternoon and mow the front lawn and also pop to the shops for a top up shop. Will try to spend an hour in the garden late afternoon (when the sun will be bearable for me) with my book.

Wishing you all a lovely day.

Arraminta · 11/08/2024 11:33

Morning! A very slow Sunday here. DH is making coffee then I'm going to pamper myself in the shower with a body scrub and a purple hair masque.

Then we're taking our DDs out for lunch as they're both home. This afternoon DH will be basking in the garden and I'll be reading in our cool, shadowy study (I hate the heat).

Yamadori · 11/08/2024 11:34

The gardening awaits. Confused

Mind you, at least it means I get out of the classic car show that DH is going to this afternoon! We're having roast chicken this evening on his return.
