I've been offered two jobs -call centre or receptionist ...which do I take?

Basically had 2 interviews
Been offered both jobs
1 is a call centre as a sales advisor for EE
The other is a hotel receptionist at Crowne plaza Hotel

Which would you take?
The call centre has targets and sales targets
The hotel obviously will be busy

Both similar amounts of wages

I'm confused
What do I take ?

Hotel job will be more varied but people will be rude to your face rather than down a phone line. I remember TV programme Hotel Babylon, was never a dull moment.

Shoutymomma · 09/08/2024 20:19

Hotel.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 09/08/2024 20:20

Personally I'd go for the hotel. More varied work, meeting people face to face. Call centre staff get a lot of stuck.

Hotel receptionist

Receptionist. Call Centre jobs are not nice.

DustyD2 · 09/08/2024 20:21

Hotel. Call centre sales targets sounds stressful

space99 · 09/08/2024 20:21

Is the call centre job at home?

usernother · 09/08/2024 20:21

It depends on a few things I would have thought. Are you good at front facing customer roles, or do you prefer interacting by phone? Does the Receptionist job involve shifts? If so, do they provide transport to get home late at night, or can you park on site? Etc etc. Personally I'd go for the Crowne Plaza job, I think that would be far more interesting.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 09/08/2024 20:22

Hotel.

You won't get bollocked for taking a second longer to conclude calls on average and you'll be allowed to think for yourself. And you'll likely be allowed to go to the toilet without somebody standing there physically or metaphorically with a stopwatch, timing how long you take to change a tampon or remarking that you're slacking because you've been to the toilet twice today already.

Call centre work is SHIT.

SugarMiceInTheRain · 09/08/2024 20:22

Definitely the hotel reception. I've done call centre and receptionist work and as busy and stressful as it was at times, it was far more interesting than call centre work, which bored me to tears.

piperatthegates · 09/08/2024 20:22

I wouldn't take a call centre job if I had a choice.

betterangels · 09/08/2024 20:22

Call centre was a nightmare.

RipePeach · 09/08/2024 20:22

Having done some call centre jobs many years ago, I'd say hotel receptionist in a heartbeat!

BettyBardMacDonald · 09/08/2024 20:23

Hotel.

Better networking opportunities should you wish to climb the career ladder.

Might meet an interesting partner. Be on your feet instead of sedentary. Daily variety.

Cellotapedispenser · 09/08/2024 20:23

Receptionist, many more opportunities to stand out and gain experience with lots of face to face interactions. Call center quotas with no recognition is tough.

simplemindss · 09/08/2024 20:24

No the call centre is around 45 mins away
Hotel is 15ish minutes away

It's mostly inbound but does include outbound sales too.

I think you'll get more rudeness over the phone, because people ringing up are likely to be the ones with problems. They are frustrated at waiting for ages for an agent, listening to annoying music. If you have problems on the hotel reception you can more easily get back-up.

simplemindss · 09/08/2024 20:25

The hotel is shifts of
7-3
10-6
3-11
It's 15 minutes from home but I drive

DramaAlpaca · 09/08/2024 20:26

Definitely the hotel. Definitely.

DejaMooo · 09/08/2024 20:26

I'm biased because I had a call centre job and it was horrendous. They monitored how often you went to the toilet and how long for. I accept not all will be like that but I swore never again. I think the hotel job would appeal to me more anyway regardless if that. More varied and not just stuck with a headset on all day.

betterangels · 09/08/2024 20:26

The hotel seems a no-brainer.

PocketCup · 09/08/2024 20:27

Hotel every time

Claloulat · 09/08/2024 20:28

Hotel. Call centre jobs are completely soul destroying. You have targets on top of targets. Hold time, call length, sales targets, upselling products, toilet breaks are timed. You have to justify everything, managers are stressed and take it out on the call handlers. Customers are very rude to you.

The hotel job sounds much better. I have no experience but a friend worked reception in a hotel and enjoyed it.
