I've been offered two jobs -call centre or receptionist ...which do I take?

Basically had 2 interviews
Been offered both jobs
1 is a call centre as a sales advisor for EE
The other is a hotel receptionist at Crowne plaza Hotel

Which would you take?
The call centre has targets and sales targets
The hotel obviously will be busy

Both similar amounts of wages

I'm confused
What do I take ?

Well the interview for the hotel was quite interesting
They have 2 big function suites that do weddings and said we will be showing people around that too.
The hotel is lovely too

Receptionist. People tend to be nicer face to face.

invisiblecat · 09/08/2024 20:29

Hotel. 100%.

Call centre work is dire. I used to work for one (not on the phones, but in the accounts department) and the sheer levels of stress and angst on the call centre floor was something to behold. Wild horses would not drag me into a job like that.

I've done both. Receptionist without a doubt

Do you have childcare to consider re shifts?

SaintHonoria · 09/08/2024 20:31

Will the hotel be taken over and used to house migrant men as that may change how you view your personal safety at work.

If it is applicable, I expect the OP has already thought of that.

Hotel 100%
Congratulations!

If it is, they are hardly going to need a receptionist. are they?

Hotel

Hotel. I worked in a call centre years ago and can only imagine that it has got worse since with the general stress levels of the public

Divebar2021 · 09/08/2024 20:33

I should think the receptionist job would expose you to other departments such as event planning which could be interesting.

birdsoeking · 09/08/2024 20:35

I walked out of a call centre job after 4 days. Fucking dreadful place to work. Just bloody awful. I’d go for the hotel job. You’ll get a chance to meet people face to face.

Allforareason · 09/08/2024 20:37

Follow your heart…. But I’d also say hotel. Call centres can be soul destroying, and when are call centres ever not looking for staff? Hotel reception jobs are more rare to come up and worst case scenario and you hate it, you’d get a job in most call centres pretty quickly with the staff turnover rate they often have.

ALunchbox · 09/08/2024 20:37

Are the contracts comparable? Work hours/pattern? Is there a place you are more likely to progress?

Roselilly36 · 09/08/2024 20:37

Yep I agree, hotel, call centre jobs are really tough and customers can be so rude,as you are just a voice on the phone.

olivecapes · 09/08/2024 20:38

Hotel, it doesn't sound fun working for a call centre, even if it was WFH.

stormstormystormstorm · 09/08/2024 20:38

No brainer. Hotel.

Call centers are awful.

socks1107 · 09/08/2024 20:38

Hotel job everytime

Oh give it a bloody rest.

CocoapuffPuff · 09/08/2024 20:41

Hotel. Id be a housekeeper in a hotel before I worked in a call centre. It's a job I've done before, mind you

DobbyTheHouseElk · 09/08/2024 20:43

Hotel. You might get a better chance of progression. Also Hotels are hilarious fun behind the scenes,

orcaborca · 09/08/2024 20:43

Definitely hotel. Unless you enjoy selling and are good at it just don't even bother. It's soul destroying trying to hit sales targets and be a good person at the same time.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 09/08/2024 20:44

Working in a call centre is horrible. Take the hotel job.

MouseofCommons · 09/08/2024 20:45

Hotel. Face to face reception is actually quite fun. You get more gossip too.
