What stupid stuff do you waste money on?

For me it's candles, and clothes in Primark that I'll either never wear, or wear once and chuck in the charity bag. Or getting tipsy on a night out and ordering (and paying for) expensive shots for everyone. I often wonder how much money I'd have for my retirement if I didn't spend so much on crap. Anyone else do this?

Storage containers, slight home edit addiction

Lipsticks.

I had 2,500 and rising but have reduced it to around 1,800.

I have a make up and beauty room so storage is not an issue but lipstick buying is an addiction.

That is really quite astounding. Especially given that lipsticks don’t last.

MuddlingThroughLife · 07/08/2024 20:26

Kindle books. I currently have 72 on my kindle and another 135 on my wishlist. I don't consider books a waste though.

Cat toys.

Takeaways.

Lunches in work.

Gadgets that turn out to be crap.

Obsession.

@TankFlyBoss Hi, those are all from Lily and Fox, shipping is free but can take 2-3 weeks, UK customers need to use the Aus site as the US costs a fortune in shipping: lilyandfox.com.au
I also use a small UK company: nailsontherun.store

NeedthatFridayfeeling · 07/08/2024 20:31

I use a good top coat, CND Vinylux or Beetles gel.
I used a cheaper one at the start and the tips would skrink

Gym Wear-I don't go to the Gym-I exercise at home, nobody sees me, yet i like to wear matching outfits and buy them whenever I can!!!
Cafe Lunches, every Weekend-It is a little treat to get out the house and have some food, people watch etc...( we go as a family)
Candles and books- however I have started a book swap with one of my Neighbours, and in one of the surrounding Villages we have a telephone box as a book swap so don't actually spend much on this now, but I can't resist a Amazon Kindle 99p book

TankFlyBoss · 07/08/2024 20:36

I take a big flask of tea into work every day instead of having to faff around with tea rounds and contributing to the milk fund and other annoying office stuff. However, I’m on a seemingly constant search for the perfect thermosflask - so far, I’ve had ones that are too big, too small, too difficult to keep clean (not dishwasher proof) , too unreliable about keeping the tea warm enough. I must have bought 4 or 5 in the past 2 years from Amazon. I need help. Grin

You need a Contigo 😹

Stainless steel versions can dishwasher.

peanutpuffs · 07/08/2024 21:13

Kind/eat natural bars. Any snacks really!
Coats for my son on Vinted that he will refuse to wear.
M&S work tops despite never really going into the office.
Photos to put in photo albums that lie in drawers for years.
Blankets for my overly-insulated house.
Things I get influenced by IG on such as name labels for my son’s nursery clothes, carpet scrapers, mould gel, glass nail files…

Shannith · 07/08/2024 21:19

Horses. Might as well burn £20 notes daily.

Wrennyjenwren · 07/08/2024 21:24

None of it is wasted money if it's something you enjoy.

Bohomovies · 07/08/2024 21:24

I’m quite disciplined with money in general, but I do buy coffees to take away, and sometimes food when I’m out.

Sparrowball · 07/08/2024 21:54

Clothes, make-up, skin care, perfume, stuff for the house and cleaning products.

It makes me happy so I don't consider it a waste, if I don't spend it someone else will when I'm gone.

TeaOrCoffeeOrHotChocolate · 07/08/2024 22:36

Posh popcorn. Joe&Sephs I'm looking at you.

peachyicetea · 07/08/2024 17:55

No. Don’t ask for tips. You don’t NEED any more thermosflasks!

                          😂

This was absolutely me, I spent years trying to find the right one and spent a fortune! In the end I found it ( it suits me anyway) But it was expensive. However, it really works in that it really does keep drinks really hot and doesn’t. leak. It is the Kinto travel flask. I managed to get mine in the sale a few years ago, but actually would have been happy to pay full price now I know how good it is. I’ve used it every day for about 3 years now with no issues. Hope this helps !

Sorry, this was meant for @PuppyMonkey And I meant the Kinto Travel Tumbler

Lavenderandbrown · 08/08/2024 01:15

Currently I have 7 brand new Mrs meyers counter sprays under my sink. Nearly organized in a long lucite tray. Usually I buy one counter spray and use it entirely up before purchasing more but last week I decide to buy all my favorites and use what ever I fancy at the time. I love seeing my fragrant cleaning soldiers all lined up ready for duty

Funnywonder · 08/08/2024 01:33

Stationery. Pretty notebooks (especially if they're reduced in the sale) and diaries and pens and box files and Filofax refills. I always think I'm going to get organised/write down my thoughts/write a novel/write poetry. But I don't. My collection just keeps getting bigger.

ShyCrab · 08/08/2024 03:48

Mine is takeaway coffees, I know it’s a waste of money but I’m addicted and apart from chocolate it’s my only vice really. Used to be skincare but I avoid boots now.

ALunchbox · 08/08/2024 04:26

Holidays.
It used to be books but I really have no more room.

ThisDog · 08/08/2024 04:48

If I want something, I don't see it as a waste or stupid. Other people might think the amount of dog toys I buy is stupid but to me it's money well spent. I also spend a lot on gymwear, gifts for my children and streaming services.

Wallywobbles · 08/08/2024 05:05

Travel bags. So many amazing overnight, short break, computer bags. I love them so much.
