Planned Far Right extremist events in London today - Please be vigilant

Planned ‘demonstrations’ in London today by racists/Far Right.

I just caught up with the BBC news on the riots this morning, and the article states the Metropolitan Police are aware of planned ‘demonstrations’ by these extremists in at least 4 areas of London today. I clicked on the link, and found a list of areas they are aware of.

These areas have been listed as:

Finchley - specifically North Finchley
Walthamstow
Harrow
Hounslow

Sadiq Khan has asked that Londoners check in on our friends, neighbours and family members who are of ethnic minority heritage.

I am so saddened and disgusted that this is happening in my city, and I hope and pray that everyone will stay safe and strong.

Please also be vigilant on your journeys in and out of London, as some of this scum will no doubt travel from Greater London and other areas of the country to take part.

We live in Greater London, and are in a mixed heritage marriage with children and have really noticed since just before the general election onwards, that many people here have become angrier and more open and vocal with their racist views. Reform gained many votes here, and many here hate Labour with a passion. A couple of the Mums I was Facebook friends with from my children’s school posted numerous images of their attendance at the EDL and Tommy Robinson demonstration in London a couple of weeks ago, complete with words of support. Needless to say, they are no longer friends of mine - online or otherwise.

My Husband was racially abused a few weeks ago in our street when trying to park his car for the first time in nearly 20 years of living in London. I’m struggling to not see this is a coincidence after having written what I wrote above.

I am so fucking angry. My brown DS HAS to go out today- he has an important appointment that he can't postpone- and I have to tell him to avoid mosques, gurudwaras, immigration offices, certain areas, crowds of white men....

hollyblueivy · 07/08/2024 12:57

I'm honestly baffled that there really so many people up and down the country with this islamophobic, racist, mindless violence perspective. It's like they've all crawled out of the woodwork and I didn't realise they were there. What a let down for humanity.

I have work colleagues and neighbours that are from ethnic minorities and I can't imagine how they must be feeling right now. It's shameful.

Midlifecareerchange · 07/08/2024 13:01

These EDL people should be shipped off to Rwanda asap.

Sadly I've always known they were there, they let it slip now and again with little throw away Comments. Racists sometimes try and hide but often can't help giving themselves away. Racism in general, but particularly Islamaphobia, has been on the rise for a few years, encouraged in part by the previous Government and some parts of the media.

What has Rwanda done to deserve this?

sprigatito · 07/08/2024 13:11

Over 100 "protests" now planned for this evening apparently 😞

This is terrifying. My fear is that the momentum is now so strong that there will be smaller, spontaneous riots in areas that hadn't planned anything this evening, and there won't be a single spare police officer to respond. My DS2 works in a kebab shop in the evenings and I feel sick about him going to work. I asked him to take a few days off and he refused, he says he won't be cowed by racist thugs and if something does kick off he isn't going to leave his Muslim colleagues vulnerable. He's furious.

What a tactless post.

Why @notimagain will it instead of helping us navigate violence with our families instead tell us where to go to ritlot??🙄

Edited

You want a list for “good” reason, I get that….

I’m genuinely wondering if some in HMG might take a different view…..has MNHQ considered that?

Ghosttofu99 · 07/08/2024 13:18

Shops and cafes closing early in our area too as thugs are expected this evening.

@Polarnight with the very greatest respect, I don't think this is the right thread for your post. All forms of racism and religious discrimination are monstrous, and should be roundly condemned. But this thread isn't about the demos on Saturday, it's about far-right thugs potentially descending on London today, and targeting anyone they perceive to be 'other', especially Muslims and people of colour. There are numerous threads about the pro-palestine protests.
I do respectfully disagree with you that the 'river to the sea' chant is of genocidal intent. I wouldn't personally say it, as I know it offends some people, and is open to misinterpretation; but I've heard those who say it explain that for them it just means free of occupation. But, that's also a matter for another thread, so I'll leave it there.

Lentilweaver · 07/08/2024 13:20

Please leave the Pro Palestine protests out of this. this is about the far right.

stormy4319trevor · 07/08/2024 13:21

Local news and police updates might be the best way to steer clear of any riots or protests. Social media may just post lists to create confusion and fear, so police advice and reputable local news may be most accurate.

I know. It's like there's another Britain that I didn't know was there. I mean I know a significant number of people grumble about immigration. But, the violent hatred, the scale of it - I'm genuinely totally shocked!

Skodacool · 07/08/2024 13:27

I think your description of these thugs as racists is better than far right and these so-called protests or demonstrations are nothing more than riots.

I really don’t think that thugs with intent to riot are going to be seeking potential venue information from MN

(But I’m going to report my post to MNHQ in case they do want to take a different view).

Agree, very much agree.

BurntBroccoli · 07/08/2024 13:40

Apparently west end of Newcastle shops nurseries and gym evacuated as planned riots there.

EricHebbornInItaly · 07/08/2024 13:43

I’ve gone home early, not risking getting caught up in it if people are coming from out of town.

Lifeomars · 07/08/2024 13:44

I am so sorry that you have to live with this sort of stress and anxiety and all because ignorant and unpleasant people feel empowered to do and say as they please. Farage, Robinson, Tice, Anderson and all the others who follow and support their views should be thoroughly ashamed. Somehow I doubt they will, they lack empathy and self reflection, that precious ability to metaphorically stand in another's shoes and think "what must this be like for the people on the receiving end of hate and violence"

Livelovebehappy · 07/08/2024 13:45

As thought, unless the riots are coming later, there’s nothing to see. I doubt there’s going to be any riots today in 35 cities and towns. It’s started to rain anyway up here in the North. And nothing local being reported in towns on ‘the list’. Another bit of manipulating and scaremongering amongst the media. They really do have a lot to answer for, whipping all this up.

sprigatito · 07/08/2024 13:48

@Tiredeveryday how do I know what? Confused

If they are indeed coming, they are coming later today.

There were two main lists circulating yesterday. One with about 15 town names, no other more specific location specified, kick-off 7pm, and then one with about 20 immigration advice centres or lawyers, with full postcodes, kick-off 8pm.

So while it might be the case that nothing happens, I wouldn't count your chickens just yet.

I felt all this as a child (1970s), the bigotry and undercurrent of aggression and hatred. That's why I was saddened by the result of the referendum in 2016, but not surprised. I couldn't believe people were shocked! And in the last 8 years the far right agenda has been grinding on and now these lunatics, emboldened by years of Tory self-serving nastiness and the likes of Farage and the right wing press and their BTL useful idiots, are seizing their opportunity to cause mayhem.

UneFoisAuChalet · 07/08/2024 14:00

I’m one of those solicitors at a law firm being targeted. My worry isn’t really tonight’s protest - we’ve been warned about it and measures have been taken. I’m worried about the ones we don’t know about. Are we meant to just go into work tomorrow? Everything back to normal? There’s another planned on the 14th so is that it? Riots every Wednesday night?
