Planned Far Right extremist events in London today - Please be vigilant

Planned ‘demonstrations’ in London today by racists/Far Right.

I just caught up with the BBC news on the riots this morning, and the article states the Metropolitan Police are aware of planned ‘demonstrations’ by these extremists in at least 4 areas of London today. I clicked on the link, and found a list of areas they are aware of.

These areas have been listed as:

Finchley - specifically North Finchley
Walthamstow
Harrow
Hounslow

Sadiq Khan has asked that Londoners check in on our friends, neighbours and family members who are of ethnic minority heritage.

I am so saddened and disgusted that this is happening in my city, and I hope and pray that everyone will stay safe and strong.

Please also be vigilant on your journeys in and out of London, as some of this scum will no doubt travel from Greater London and other areas of the country to take part.

We live in Greater London, and are in a mixed heritage marriage with children and have really noticed since just before the general election onwards, that many people here have become angrier and more open and vocal with their racist views. Reform gained many votes here, and many here hate Labour with a passion. A couple of the Mums I was Facebook friends with from my children’s school posted numerous images of their attendance at the EDL and Tommy Robinson demonstration in London a couple of weeks ago, complete with words of support. Needless to say, they are no longer friends of mine - online or otherwise.

My Husband was racially abused a few weeks ago in our street when trying to park his car for the first time in nearly 20 years of living in London. I’m struggling to not see this is a coincidence after having written what I wrote above.

@WRONG THREAD

Not really. Her point is valid to this issue isn’t it? And they had to face a hell of a lot more on a weekly basis. Let’s use this situation to be mindful of what the Jewish community were also (and still are) experiencing, and kindness and consideration shown to every community.

I'm so sorry to hear about your husband being subjected to racial abuse. That is absolutely disgusting. Please let him know that most people are decent and just want to live in peace together, whatever colour or religion anyone is, it doesn't matter and these racist thugs do not represent the majority of people's views.

I am brown and have a trip booked to London this weekend. In modern times this is the most apprehensive I have ever felt about going out and some of my relatives, particularly those who are elderly are now not going out at all. However, if I follow suit the racists win and I cannot have that.

Well how? Because they are not trained in public order

Well, they are; but they will only be brought in if police chiefs request them.

If police are really stretched, then there might be some limited roles where they could assist, acting under police direction. The likeliest one is to provide suitably trained personnel to help guard diplomatic and government buildings (as happened in ?2018) so instead of 2 coppers there is one copper and one military, thus freeing up police officers for other duties.

Also they could be deployed (with police) to protect other buildings (if the police wanted this task done) or to maintain crowd control cordons (again with police and under police direction)

They wouldn’t be patrolling, they wouldn’t be armed (except diplomatic/governmental building protection where armed guards is the requirement), and they would not be making any operational decisions. They’d simply be extra boots on the ground.

I think it’s unlikely this will happen

HeyTalkToMeGoose · 07/08/2024 08:26

Don't worry

Prison will be a shock to them. Believe me, it will be grim

It's ironic that the kind of people who provide passive support for the rioters (Daily Mail readers who lapped up the twice-weekly headlines about "millions of migrants on the way", which that paper now hopes you will forget as goes on piously about "thugs on the streets of Britain") probably also think that prisons are woke country clubs with room service and flat-screen (of course) TVs in every cell.

Do you live in London? Have you seen the pictures of some of the appalling chants, banners, abuse, antisemitism amongst some of those ‘peaceful’ protestors? I suspect not, but reading your comments it’s clear it fits your narrative to be blind to that. The Jewish people in London are not responsible for what is happening in Gaza, and the none white people in London are not responsible for Government decisions which has escalated the current situation (mainly Tory). Would you, as a Jew, have been comfortable having to walk through thousands of hostile people to go about your business? Nothing else to say, only that we should be mindful of any community living in fear of both verbal and physical abuse. Awful situation for the people of London to be in, but hopefully will make people accept and reflect about prejudice against ALL communities.

Dandeliontea123 · 07/08/2024 11:09

I share people's apprehension. I have some Asian heritage and since Brexit I've had the occasional thug trying to intimidate me (depending on where he or she thinks I might be from 'originally'). Each time it's been either when I'm travelling or have a suitcase with me.

I have trains booked to travel alone cross country tomorrow and I'm in two minds about going.

dutysuite · 07/08/2024 11:15

I’m in a mixed heritage marriage, been with my husband for over 20 years and only known him to encounter racism once when a woman who wanted his car parking space called him a p*ki. She was very lucky I wasn’t with my husband at the time believe me. Funny thing is half my husband’s siblings voted reform.

anotherside · 07/08/2024 11:17

Unlikely to happen as it would take a big amount of organising, but wouldn’t it be great if London could have a pro-immigration protest/walk with half a million or even a million people involved. It would be great to give these assholes a visual representation (given that’s probably all they likely understand) that they remain just a tiny minority.

“Would you, as a Jew, have been comfortable having to walk through thousands of hostile people to go about your business?”

I understand it must sometimed be uncomfortable being a non-Israeli Jew. But those protests are aimed at the Israeli government, not the general Jewish international population. In the same way that Israel’s war (as poorly executed as it is) has the goal of defeating Hamas, not Islam in general. Saying we shouldn’t condemn Israel because it might upset Jewish people worldwide is as nonsensical and prejudiced as saying Israel should be dealt with more harshly because it is largely Jewish.

Peaceful protest is acceptable. But we all had sight of some of what was going on in London, and resulting concerns from the Jewish community of the verbal abuse they received when having to walk through these protests. Fortunately the protest was largely peaceful, but there were enough confrontations from the none peaceful pockets to cause fear amongst the Jewish community. Anyway, not going to derail the thread and turn it into a middle east debate, but was responding to a poster who shouted down someone for mentioning that the Jews had a lack of support during the recent pro Palestinian protests. I’ll just leave it there.

RosaMoline · 07/08/2024 11:46

I live in Woking, which has a large south Asian population and the oldest mosque in the UK.
Hoping it doesn’t kick off here…daughter and friend is planning to protect the place targeted in aldershot tonight. I’m apprehensive for them both.

A couple of the places listed have a large Jewish population. I doubt the EDL would be welcomed there with open arms, and although there is an element of anti semitism disguised as anti Isreael in the pro Palestinian marches, I suspect most if not sll of the Racists rioting also hate Jews. Tommy Robinson was applauding George Galloways anti semitism a few weeks ago.

x2boys · 07/08/2024 11:52

It appears to be spreading ,my friend posted a list of places that are supposed to be targeted today ,I'm in Bolton andxthere are supposed to be riots later
My son has had a medical appointment cancelled because of them
It appears they are targeting immigration, centres and lawyers .

MinnieMountain · 07/08/2024 11:58

I’m away holiday but according to our work chat everyone in the Peterborough (where I live) office should work from home today.

Edited

Of course the rioters (EDL no longer exist as a group) will also target Jews in the community they visit, although I would say not everyone who is Jewish is as identifiable as those who are Muslim/none white. But it’s a shame it would take these current incidents to highlight the fear experienced by Jews, which they have had to confront for a number of months with the ProPalestinian protests, and hatred encountered generally on the streets outside of these protests.

Possible unrest in Lewisham tonight.

I’m not in London but there is also something planted for my city.

the shops are closing early and boarding up so they are taking it seriously. Really hope the fact that people from previous protests are being arrested so promptly will put people off carrying on.

Please could you share the link? I've had a look on the BBC website but I can't see anything listing specific areas where riots may be planned.

stronglatte · 07/08/2024 12:48

Just been out and about in London and delighted to report that a good and normal mix of people of every colour are put about going about their day. First of the nazi riots is due to start around 3.30pm so let's see. A proud and hopeful Londoner but Ive got three young adults I've asked to stay in tonight xx

Any thoughts from MNHQ on the advisability of publishing such lists in this place?

Royalmail100 · 07/08/2024 12:53

Why @notimagain will it instead of helping us navigate violence with our families instead tell us where to go to ritlot??🙄

This was aimed at Jewish Londoners, Not the Israeli Govt.

This image was posted on MN the other day. The response was 'yeah but the riots are worse'. Either stop playing minority group top trumps and call out the hate from both ends, or say nothing at all. Because your own prejudice is really showing.
