Planned Far Right extremist events in London today - Please be vigilant

Planned ‘demonstrations’ in London today by racists/Far Right.

I just caught up with the BBC news on the riots this morning, and the article states the Metropolitan Police are aware of planned ‘demonstrations’ by these extremists in at least 4 areas of London today. I clicked on the link, and found a list of areas they are aware of.

These areas have been listed as:

Finchley - specifically North Finchley
Walthamstow
Harrow
Hounslow

Sadiq Khan has asked that Londoners check in on our friends, neighbours and family members who are of ethnic minority heritage.

I am so saddened and disgusted that this is happening in my city, and I hope and pray that everyone will stay safe and strong.

Please also be vigilant on your journeys in and out of London, as some of this scum will no doubt travel from Greater London and other areas of the country to take part.

We live in Greater London, and are in a mixed heritage marriage with children and have really noticed since just before the general election onwards, that many people here have become angrier and more open and vocal with their racist views. Reform gained many votes here, and many here hate Labour with a passion. A couple of the Mums I was Facebook friends with from my children’s school posted numerous images of their attendance at the EDL and Tommy Robinson demonstration in London a couple of weeks ago, complete with words of support. Needless to say, they are no longer friends of mine - online or otherwise.

My Husband was racially abused a few weeks ago in our street when trying to park his car for the first time in nearly 20 years of living in London. I’m struggling to not see this is a coincidence after having written what I wrote above.

There’s 2 towns with protests I have seen on sm that aren’t on this list.

HeyTalkToMeGoose · 07/08/2024 09:50

The earlier protests which became riots were held back by police and the violence and attacks were on mainly property and police lines

Now communities are coming together and protecting mosques, property and themselves. This is where 2 groups meet and fight with the police left in the middle....this is different and where it gets nasty and more difficult for police to police

Lolapip · 07/08/2024 09:50

My town is on the list. Me and Dh have not gone to work today.

MillshakePickle · 07/08/2024 09:52

There's one happening the up road from me . I'm mixed race as well and in a mixed race marriage with mixed children.

I'm definitely brown and have an accent and because of my mix, I'm very ambiguous looking and can't be easily placed ethnically, especially with the accent I have .

Yesterday coming home from work in greater London on the way to the station, I was called a fucking P*ki and told to get off the road if I didn't want to be run over. I was crossing the road legally, some man was just being impatient and trying to jump the light. I should have taken his plate number, but was so shocked and angered I didn't think to in that moment. I haven't told anyone in rl about it. I don't want to voice it out loud. Why am I ashamed of his behaviour? I am not in any way, shape or form even from Asian heritage. But because I'm brown...

Warnings have gone out to avoid the area which is near an immigration law firm. Businesses are closing early.

I'm staying in today with my kids. I should go to the shops for a top up shop, but will make due with what we have at home.

I'm an immigrant and have been here for more than half my life, while I don't identify as British or English my husband and children are. I have paid for the privilege to live here through immigration fees, having had to come to this country with ££ £££ in the bank, never had anything off of the state beyond mat leave pay and furlough tbf, I pay my taxes and contribute to the communities I work and live in.

THIS IS NO WAY TO LIVE. WE SHOULDNT BE LIVING IN FEAR OR SHAME NOT IN ENGLAND.

Rooroobear · 07/08/2024 09:46

Some of these are happening at dinner time (or lunch time) just an fyi

Oh no! Thought I'd be home and happily in the gym by the time they started.

Milkshakepickle I'm so sorry that happened to you x

Royalmail100 · 07/08/2024 09:59

I kmow what you mean op re balance of safety but equally don't want to ruin fun.
Re everyman I think they would be more than understanding if you wanted to move your ticket?

Our local town was in a list at the weekend and I think two 2 edl types turned up.
15 counter anti racist protester.

We are south though.
However we do have a hotel housing migrants near by.

@MillshakePickle@MillshakePickle that's absolutely awful you poor thing.

Unfortunately many of these people are so ignorant and stupid.

SquirmOfEels · 07/08/2024 10:03

I saw on SKY yesterday that “police sources” were saying 30 planned for today. But they added in the main article that, so far, the number planned was greater than the number of disturbances. So I was hoping today would end up being a damp squib.

If there are widespread disturbances and riots today, then my niggle about this government’s ability to control rioting will become a bit firmer. The 2011 riots across the country (there’s a documentary on them on All 5) lasted a week - though of course they manifested rather differently

NewHouseNewMe · 07/08/2024 10:04

I’m pretty surprised at the areas of London mentioned above. I live near one: not only is it an expansive area, it has churches, synagogues, a temple, mosque.. I will go so far as to say that the vast majority are not white Christian British. We are brown/mixed/black/recent white immigrant/religiously diverse (e.g. Jewish) people of peace.

This does not seem the place to whip up racial tensions unless it’s to wind up the locals and to try to provoke a backlash. There is no tension at all. We like our diversity and voted overwhelmingly to stay in the EU.

whynotwhatknot · 07/08/2024 10:08

just disgusting really london of all plaes has always been mixed culturally even 40 years ago wen i was living there

i wouldnt count on strong sentences though-one man just got two months inside

ImRonBurgandy · 07/08/2024 10:13

I live in one of those mentioned in the OP, just been out to the shops. Many are closed, some have boarded up their windows. The library is closing early, the GP surgery is making people buzz in for entry. If this has all been a ploy to terrorise people and nothing happens, this will have been a costly exercise for already stretched businesses. If something happens and it is needed, then I hope the measures do the job and everyone stays safe.

Iknowjadon · 07/08/2024 10:17

Just unbelievable

thecatsthecats · 07/08/2024 10:18

I'm in Birmingham, not London, but I came home the other day and noticed that the little EU flag that sits in a flowerpot by the window had drifted across to show from outside.

I tucked it away, because I have no wish to fall victim to a random brick if some wanker emboldened by these protests walks by.

(I live in a nice area, but not THAT nice)

MrsSkylerWhite · 07/08/2024 10:19

Polarnight · Today 10:00
Did anyone check in on their Jewish neighbours during the disgraceful pro hamas demonstrations?

Or did you join in with them?

Think you’re on the wrong thread.

AmandaHoldensLips · 07/08/2024 10:20

Bring the bloody army in. Let's see how they deal with brick-throwing thugs.

Turmerictolly · 07/08/2024 10:21

I think Londoners will unite against this scum.

RubyGemStone · 07/08/2024 10:23

Walthamstow??? These people really are a new level of stupid. I notice Hackney, Peckham, Harlesden etc not on the list they want to riot aren't willing to get themselves fucked up for the 'cause'.

We are a mixed family in London and this entire thing is absolutely disgusting. Its so hard to marry this with the diversity I live in.

Rooroobear · 07/08/2024 10:28

Unfortunately, it’s not the first time and it won’t be the last time. Racial tension is always simmering, it just takes one thing for it to boil over. There are far too many racist thugs in this country.

I suspect most people did. What an unpleasant thing to say with all that's going on. Reported.

Longleggedblond · 07/08/2024 10:30

I think the London locations have been chosen to target specific immigration lawyers and advice centres

Livelovebehappy · 07/08/2024 10:36

Very sorry to hear about this and the obvious impact it will have. But hope it puts to bed the prejudice received this week on here making it all about a Northern problem. It’s happening everywhere from the North to the South to Belfast.

Well how? Because they are not trained in public order
