Oh hello - is this the calming thread ?
Pleased to meet you

I don't have a cat

Yep. It is. Lovely to meet you. You’re still welcome sans cat. 🥰

Thank you for the welcome @Apolloneuro . Made brief appearances before but mostly lurk. Definitely my go to thread on Mumsnet. Has a virus, so feeling a bit post viral flat but recent events make me want to weep and weep...

Me too. No virus, but feel like weeping at times! Partly with rage.

Saucery · 06/08/2024 18:53

Liar listened to a liar and got told some lies? Well I never! Shock

Hope that emoji is ok. It’s an official MN one and it’s aimed at Farage pleasedontbanme

pointythings · 06/08/2024 18:56

@midgetastic yes, this is the calm thread where we talk about cats, politics and all sorts. A racist free zone (the odd visitor aside). Welcome to everyone who wants a safe corner of MN.

Today in my Trust, we had a patient who refused to see the consultant they were referred to because 'his name sounded Muslim'. We have to treat them so they're going to get what they want - with a longer wait.

Saucery · 06/08/2024 18:59

Hope it’s a much, much longer wait @pointythings . And painful.

dontcallmelen · 06/08/2024 18:59

Saucery loving your choice of music
Thank you for the new thread Duncin & all contributors these animal tax photographs are so gorgeous flowers from me, I’m even more miserable than I was have just tested positive for covid & feel absolutely dreadful.

Am I allowed to laugh at your funny reply?

Oh well - it amused me anyway!

grannycake · 06/08/2024 19:03

@BustingBaoBun No she just doesn't like having her photo taken. It's her "I'm not happy" look

Some observations from the BBC reporting today.

  1. Don't appear to be any new incidents thus far today.
  2. Director of CPS says there may be a small number of terrorism prosecutions. Such prosecutions, like prosecutions for riot rather than violent disorder, will take more time to prepare the evidence for.
  3. Don't be surprised if those sentenced initially seem to get short sentences, they will be the low hanging fruit whose cases are simple and involvement is not huge.

The UK does not have any statue of limitations - as people serving time for crimes committed 40 years ago would be happy to explain (if they weren't in gaol).

Yea. The actual offence of riot (ten year max) is quite rare. Even in 2012 (the year after the previous riots in England) there were not many cases. But the median sentence was 48 months. And it could be structured so that early release does not apply. Given the violence and risk this seems more likely.

As for terrorism that is a whole different game where prison is possible. The consequences for the families of these men may be a shock; they will look at the conduct of wives, husbands and partners. Helping terrorism is an offence in itself.

BustingBaoBun · 06/08/2024 19:20

I'm worried about tomorrow. My DD's big office has literally been closed tomorrow, everyone to WFH, this is unheard of. But the office is near some law offices and they have heard of civil unrest in the area.
Apparently there are 40 riots (yes, I call them that) planned
I'm just glad my DD doesn't have to go in tomorrow and I hope she has an office to go back to.

dontcallmelen · 06/08/2024 19:23

I was working in a hostel during the riots in 2011 some of our residents joined in looted some trainers & jogging bottoms they were all eventually caught up with & got custodial sentences as pp cameras weren’t as prevalent so pretty sure these ScummyTwatFuckwits will be rounded up in due course.

newnamethanks · 06/08/2024 19:25

Thank you Duncin and tax collectors all, so soothing. I can't say what I'm feeling about the 8% as I'll be deleted and banned. I sincerely hope the security services are piecing something together to remove Yaxley Lennon, and his minions, for a long cooling session in a filthy cell. If they could be joined by Farage that would be even better.

Been out viewing a house with my daughter. Thanks for the new thread. Cat tax is Perdy recreating the ‘paint me like your French girls’ scene from Titanic on the spare bed when I stripped it. She’s a very creative cat.

I once instigated a week of far-right violence, and as an excuse I claimed it was because I get my news from an alleged human trafficker.

Signing in from Norway again. Only seen one cat. Many dogs. No riots.

Have a Norwegian goat. He may be the wrong way round.

If Tennyson looked at me like that I'd probably give in and cook him a top notch dinner.

He's an absolute beaut 😊

Thank you. He's had his own dinner and has just appeared to ask what I'm having. He's used to being provided with second dinner. He's already a bit annoyed about my chosen lunch. Banana is one of the few human foods he has a positive aversion to.
